  1. I would certainly not upgrade to fix an install problem or NOC problem.......call tech support to get it fixed, threaten to cancel the service......there is a 30day time frame you can get out of the contract right? Regardless of which plan your on, some speed should still be available to you.......unless you are a heavy user and are under the FAP.
  2. What kind did you get? I have a XPS 140 with a 9cell battery, get about 5.5-6hrs of use. For me screen brightness plays a big factor, the power scheme settings can change things quite a bit. If you read c-net ratings much some laptops just dont get much time on batteries...some around 2.5 hours is max.
  3. If these "operating system" tweaks work so well why did the 4000's all drop in speed.....if this were a gateway issue the speeds would go back to the 2200+ speeds the 4000's were getting awhile ago during the off peak hours.....bottom line is Hughes pays big money for the BW and they are not going to allow it to flow that easily. There is another web site that pretty much explains this can not be done and is in short useless to mess with these tweaks. hint: for hughes users wanting to faster.....shell out the greenbacks to Germantown, MD after all your operating system does get plugged into the Hughes modem which does have true control of the speed here read it for yourself...... http://www.dslreports.com/faq/satellite/8._Self-Hosted_Systems-DW4020-6000-7000
  4. why are the 4000's all of a sudden not getting 2000 or 2500 down anymore?
  5. Im getting advertised "up to" speeds with no tweaks...... ::::::::::.. 6. Take a look at a thesaurus for promise you will find guarantee Hughes does not promise, guarantee speeds or service......
  7. better re-read the contract Hughes.....the service or speed is not guaranteed.
  8. Yes, a program is needed to loads the iPod nano, just like a program is needed to edit photos or edit a movie, burn a dvd or a create a sig? Why else buy big hard drive and ram? Sorry, I like the sleek slim design of the nano, and at the refurb price with 1year Apple warranty.....
  9. two boxes says that wont happen ......its takes quite a fuss to get a transponder change.
  10. My guess is they would do repoints, which for some may take weeks to months to get done......and then let the problems begin! total chaos, not a pretty thought.....even if only a few transponders were damaged. [move] [/move]
  11. Just depends what kind of service your getting I guess......after getting my transponder changed and the rate code fixed, pretty much consistant speeds on my 7000, so currently happy unless DSL arrives. WB just does not seem to be going in the right direction.....this does keep Hughes moving though.
  12. Myself don't seem to find it a problem to import music to itunes....never did see what the fuss is about itunes. Only complaint I got with the two nanos we have is a wall charger does not come with the iPod, for me this was an issue not itunes or aac.
  13. The nano refurb, also has slideshow picture capabilty, and a few time killer games......the battery price will even out over time to the extra $20 for the nano.
  14. Check your rate code and ACP score......if your rate code is below a 2/3 you might try force ranging. Also make sure your transmitter is grounded properly. A sig line would help raders know what your using.....and what bird your on. during peak hours my uploads are from 130-200.......off peak 180-215
  15. Hughes feel guilty There is a better chance of 24" of snow in Canjun, Mexico tonight
  16. Nice.....too bad thats not a satellite connection, this is a hughesnet topic
  17. The nano 2GB will hold about 500 songs, recently bought two of them one refurbished and one new......for about $89 you can get a refurb directly from apple, mint condition was how the refurb arrived. Only difference was the packing. http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=32DAAC51&nclm=Certified

  19. File a claim with the BBB and join Sylvan in the class action suit......
  20. I am confident Spaceway3 will happen sometime because it will save Hughes from leasing all these transponders they are using today. The Ka band will allow them to provide more for less, so to speak. If it stays on schedule will be launching early 2007....even it doesn't get delayed and goes smoothly will be late fall for customers at best case scenario. Not sure what the pings are projected to be, have heard rumors of a single hop system.....just wait and see I guess. WB was around 600ms when they first launched.....currently my DW7000 off peak is 700-1000ms so 500-600ms will be better, but still not DSL. I too have an option of paying for 128k cable internet(45/month) plus (35/month) for basic TV .....used that for about a year, nothing but problems and down time at least 7-10days month! Much happier with Hughes for the most part.
  21. Its something most business don't practice much of...."the customer is always right". Hughes very well knows when there is problems with service, they also know our options.....until that changes, don't expect anything cheaper thats for sure. Hopefully Spaceway gets going soon, but if they get it going expect it to be a mess and not work right for sometime!.... just as every upgrade they have released so far.

  24. Great patch, too many reasons not to get it fixed right....myself had read about so may others hole poking honestly wasn't sure if the new one would stay dry. Personally i would use a piece of 4 or 6mil plastic or freezer bag cut to overlap the eye....then use a zip tie or rubber bands to hold in place before I would use the cut, drill and forget it method
  25. My LNB window was the same way....the problem is the seal is bad, the proper way to fix it is replace it with a new one. After replacement mine is bone dry year round in all weather conditions. With a new replacement the lens will have no moisture or water on the inside! Now the outside grey plastic shroud is not needed, but the plastic eye for the transmitter is best kept moisture free. Its kind of like a sealed halogen headlight on your car......would you drill holes in it then wonder why the bulb burns out often or the lens is discolored and not as bright. Guess it wont mater if it sets in the garage in a controlled environment. Just as the plastic outside covers, if Hughes could eliminate cost of production by elimination of unnecessary parts......really would they be in the box? This part is easily replaced with a few common tools. This alone will affect your signal by at least a few points...if not more. Another obvious clue it should be there....if not needed to save a service call why don't all installers just cut them out when performing an install?
