  1. here is the upgrade link.... you will need a site ID to check to see what you may be eligible for. https://sf1.hns.com/upgrade/index.cfm even if the upgrade is the way to go......would still figure out where the usage is coming from (virus, adware, bots, videos, thief outside logging onto your router) unplug all PC's and wireless router even if only for a 4-5hrs....then connect only one PC, do speed test on it, use it for awhile then check your usage on hughes net. (usually a few hours behind) is router secured by a network key? and what security mode are you using?.....is it possible for anyone to be with in 300ft of your home using a laptop to access your network?
  2. If you are on the home plan....you are very likely dealing with FAP. You may be able to surf to a few web pages after 3-5 mins or so, but your bucket (169MB) will take 8-10hrs to fill back up, thats if nobody uses the connection. If you continue to use up the bucket as it fills up, this could go on continuously. As Gorman already mentioned unplug any routers, and PC's from the Hughes modem for 8-10hrs then see what you got. If somebody has a PC hooked up continuously downloading music, videos, files....169MB may not be enough bucket....( 70 for a home plan, this should get you pro plan with a 350MB bucket)
  3. Looks like Hughes is moving up the ladder......as they very well might not be the worst IP available.
  4. 3yr contract I guess if it didn't work out you could claim insanity
  5. Nice link......got lost in there
  6. Its not likely to work out for the best, unless it would be a relative or very close friend anyway.... with all the angles someone might cause problems: porn, RIAA, (just to mention a few) very well could be more problem than its worth.

  8. Yes I have a brother that is considering sat service as he lives too where there is no other choice....anyways he is already confused with installation details. He thinks the pole mount will be free in his situation, also does not understand a router or switch is needed to hook up his daughters PC. Regardless of which provider he chooses it will be front row tickets for me! Its like talking to a stump. I feel sorry for the installer....he is in for a big treat.
  9. Sounds like a Hughes story to me....telling people 200k is satisfactory speeds, because they got greedy and oversold the BW
  10. Welcome to the forum Want more speed from Hughes?...what plan are you on?
  11. [move] to the forum[/move] Perhaps they will give you credit on your bill until they get the issues resolved, I would expect a little closer to 3MB mark
  12. Guaranteed laughter ..call even it ain't broke, give them a moment to look up "system status" first, then after you explain degraded to them....be prepared for them to tell you your modem lights should be blinking blue! So by the time you might speak to somebody that could possibly answer you question a few days from now...the issue will be resolved at NOC or maybe at this point Hughes will replace the faulty equipment. No need to get mad at them......just laugh at it, cause it really is a joke on us. If your mission to search for intelligent life fails....Hughes hides the brains very well in "deep support", always file a claim with the BBB.

    FAP

I have uploaded over the 350MB in two separate sessions one after the other....no FAP. So far my usage is not showing on Hughes chart, might just be one of those days. Its usually a few hours behind, but not 6hrs. I will find out eventually, if the uploads do count I dont see where its mentioned in the contract.

    FAP

I read some of these programs keep track of upload and download .....upload does not count toward FAP

  17. yes its prolly cold..... cashmere blankets work great I have been seeing suspected satellite link once in a while, not very often. Speeds still good.
  18. The transponder issue was almost a year ago....when I had upgraded to the 7000, back then downloads were good uploads were always below 100. After the transponder change good to go. The system degrade yellow.....I see very rarely. But yes the first install ( Jan 05) was a mess, since relocated to a pole site, grounded, also wired with RG-11.....sitting on a 1/2yd of concrete 3ft deep. Very little complaints for me since Feb. 06 In my experience with this system.....(with a good install) chances are likely most issues are found on Hughes side of the fence.
  19. yes , light on status turns yellow. Only seen it a few times usually dont last long.
  20. Mid - Feb 07 will make a year on my 7000....they did swap me one in Jan 06, but did not fix my upload issue until the transponder was changed. Not easy to get that to happen. Keep in mind during the 15month contract......all is under warranty. I was getting degraded (yellow) on Sunday 1-14-07......figured it was weather related. NOC had heavy rain, so did my site location.
  21. Sorry confused without the sig line......
  22. I always thought the FAP would allow me to empty my bucket (350MB) every 4hrs......this is not how it works. The good thing is you can browse the web at your regular speed in about 10-15mins....however there is only just a few MB in your bucket so you cant do much. The way most users come across it was dial up speeds until the bucket is full (again not the case). Don't assume the bucket is full again until after 14 hours or so, to download another 350MB file or you will again be under the FAP. note:Hughes seems to be more lenient with the FAP during the wee hours
