  1. when u type in the address for the modem, can u change any settings in it. i wonder if any settings got changed somehow if u can get into it. when u say up and down, how much speed is being used, if its alot, then i would think a virus are trojan. Norton has a online test that works pretty good
  2. the metal file cabnet wouldnt affect the wired puter, as for the hot and humid air, i wouldnt know unless i was there to feel how hot and humid it was, i wouldnt think thats what killed it. might have been a bad router out of the box.
  3. i guess the router could be going out, but do u have anything on the router like books are paper are is the router sitting on the modem are the modem sitting on the router, i have seen heat kill modems nad routers before.
  4. have u checked ur brothers puter for a virus are trojans, and since u are running wireless ( if u can get into the router settings) have u checked to see if any one else is connecting to ur wireless network??
  5. the pixelpipe line seemed kinda low to me, but i dont see why it wouldnt play it either
  6. well it looks like u are trying to stay on the cheap end of this, nothing wrong with that, but u can get a 5500 for about the same price http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130197 u can look and see there are different brands nad such, but i have a 5500 in my sons puter and i have a FX5950 ultral and i cant tell much difference between it and mine in playing BF2
  7. are u talking about something like realvnc are something else. the only ftp program i have any luck is with fileshare.pro, but it sucks
  8. there should be a setting in the router settings that allow u to accept B-G are maybe G only. at least i think there shbould be a setting for that, have seen it before on some routers
  9. wish we could have got this going, but dont give up. Im sure its something simple
  10. that i dont know, i am still on a B network, but i have seen some routers having problems with B devices running on just the G band. it really sounds like to me that the problem is in the router, setting not set right are something. (edit) try looking in the wireless tab are not sure how Belkin is set up, but where the wireless stuff is, there would be a good place to start.
  11. i dout this would be it, but see if theres a option about B and G devices. If there is, make sure that a B device could conn to it. also, like with my network, someone could be in my driveway and have a connection on my network, but since they dont have the encryption keys, they wouldnt be able to do anything, but they would show that they are connected. make sure the key is correct
  12. dont try to access the wireless pc, from the wired pc, access the router and check the encyption, sounds like the encryption is on in the router, but u dont have the key for the card
  13. ok, i believe i was wrong, try the nt drivers
  14. which drivers did u use, I am thinking u use the win9x drivers, and also its only a B card, so 11Mbps is the most u can connect with. when u feel like go into the router by typing in the router address in broswer on the wired pc and see if everything is set right, the right channel and see if the encryption is on are not.
  15. the wireless PC, do u have a wireless card are what, and did u read the directions before putting it in. some cards want u to install the drivers before u install the card. Also, do u have the encryption turned on, if u do u will have to the the encryption key from the router and put the key on the wireless card
  16. could be true, but a 2Mbps is enough bandwidth to play online games unless something else is running in the background thats eating up bandwidth. try running a trace route to the server u play on. if u dont know how, go to start and then run and type in cmd, then u should have a dos box pop up and then type ( ex tracert testmy.net). no need to put in the www are anything just tpye in the IP of the server that u are trying to play on and u will see all the hops and pings from u to there. but make sure u type in tracert first then space and then IP. I have a 7 meg cable conn and it gets bad at night sometimes and i will switch over to my dsl conn which is 1.5 meg and have no trouble at all playing online.
  17. is ur puter on the network first, and if it is just place all the files that u would want to share on her computer in a certain folder are go to each foder and right click on it and got o properties, then go to sharing, and then check the box in the network sharing and security part. u shouldnt have to use the network wizard at all for this. then go to controll panel, then network connections and then on the left side look for my network places and then ur folders that u wanted to share from should show up.
  18. well i have never used a usb adapter, so i woudnt know how well they work. I have 2 pci cards and they work very well and happy with them. thats just my opion about the pci cards. someone else here that has used are useing the usb adapters could say how good they work.
  19. i think u would be happy with the router, I would use a wireless card and not the adapter, but thats just me
  20. as for the brand to buy, u will have guys say netgear are Dlink are Linksys, they are all good routers. i would just try to google router reviews and go from there. u want a router that has the Gband, either 54 are 108 will be fine, but the 108 is a little misleading a little, it can run 54 up and 54 down at the same time unless it has changed and i have not read up on it, but either will be fine. just find a good G router and a G wireless card and u will be set to go
  21. the room that has the router can plug into the PC, but the other PC will need a wireless card.
