I can't connect to the internet with router...
disturbed replied to xxzgmfx20axx's topic in Networking and Hardware
if you are talking about a wrt54g router and if it's version 5 (v5) you are better off returning it for something else - suposedly v5 wrt54g router tend to do that, freeze up, restart and many other things - randomly........i returned my router yesterday and today im looking for a V4 or older -
not really - makes no difference

lol
-
so i was right it was ur boot device setup - btw, LS is like a zip drive
-
yes, of course you have to use the cd rom option....
-
what do you mean ?
-
assuming you have the boot order set up correctly, and assuming that the cd starts booting when you have the drive connected, something hardware wise might be wrong - but thats assuming you actually have everything set up correctly
-
hm....its hard to say what the problem could be - could you hook up both the dvd drive and the hard drive at the same time and go to BIOS to see if it actually recognizes both drives ?
-
1st things 1st....if you have 2 devices on the same IDE channel, make sure one is set to Master and one to Slave - if you run only one device on an IDE channel, it will be best if you set it up as Master 2nd go to the bios section - most likely by pressing the DEL key or the F10 key while booting up - once you are there look for a section to adjust ur boot devices - make sure your primary boot device is that cd/dvd drive, 2nd ur hard drive with, and 3rd whatever - when u set it up that way, save bios settings, restart, and if you have a bootable cd/dvd in the drive it will tell you booting from cd - press any key to continue - press a key to boot from it that should solve ur problem, unless something else needs setting up

whats the problem ur having ?
-
i took your advice - i returned it - im keeping the wireless adapter though - tomorrow i will go and search for a v4 or a v3

different conditions, different cases, different designs, different fans - that all plays a roll - just a hint to people who buy amd processor - look at the actual mhz before buying the processor hell...my processor was around 250 dollars and stock it only operates at 2.2 - but its much faster than its competitor intel processors people; don't get bogged down too much on why a 2600+ amd doesnt operate at 2.6 - just understand it is different achitecture, it has nothing to do with the fact that it will run hot at 2.6, absolutely nothing....just different architecture

i bought mine at bestbuy yesterday - any idea on which stores, besides wal mart, might have V4 ?
-
i mean, i can only think of couple of ways to transfer the email messages from one computer to another 1) if the program you are using has an export messages feature, use that - save the exported messages, transfer them to the 2nd computer, and then import ur messages 2) forward all email messages to the same e-mail address, and open them on the computer you wanna have them on

....ah....i spent the last half hour reading reviews on the V5 wrt54g and everyone says they are trash....i really don't know what to do right now - whether to return it and get a V4 or keep it - are there some tests out there that I can run which will show me if this router will give me trouble or no ? ....aldsjfkla Q@#

I don't think you can - if you log in for the 1st time and receive 44 email messages, and you go to another workstation for example, log in again using the same program - it will not show the other 44 messages, it will only show the new ones the reason why is becuase when you receive messages from the pop server they automatically get deleted from the server itself - thats why when you log in again, you do not get duplicate e-mail the only way to get the other 44 messages to the 2nd machine is to actually export all email messages from the 1st client and to import them on the 2nd client

thats crazy - i have a 42 inch plasma - its about 3 inches thick - and I love it....I mean, that lcd would be like totally useless at my house - you need to be sitting at least 20 or more feet from it to be able to comfortably watch it LOL
-
I don't know really - it was only 49 dollars - ill give it a try, ill keep it online for a day or so and see if it craps out on me - ....there might also be some firmware upgrades in the future - the v5 is fairly new
-
well...so far so good .... i will see how it works out though - if i dont like it, ill just return it and try something else
-
im being serious
-
here is my best guess.....probably about 5000gb per month - maybe even more
-
this is default firmware - this router is v5 - i have read somewhere they do not have any new firmware for it....something like that.... do you have any more information on it ?
-
....it went flawlesly, without a hitch - I am 'wired' right now, and there is no loss of speed - so no bad impact on my box.....I will try wireless in a day or two
-
of course it is - i have my amd 64bit clocked at 2.8ghz - im working on a 3.0ghz overclock though
-
