much better than it was... was your speed bad before?? ~~ can see your on good 'ol ComCast ~~ looks like they are meeting their 3mbps speed quote
-
just a little added thang for ppl who have scores off the chart ~~ also re-wrote the upload script to post like the download script... blah blah... CABLE RULES!
-
Results page is changed a little bit if you didn't notice ~~ I am still running fast as a mofo also the cut and paste thing section as the bottom of the results page has an added link now so people can just click to check auth (I really don't know why I didn't just do that in the first place) (this is from other test results besides my screenshot above, just barely different scores, damn this is accurate! ) ::: Download Stats ::: Connection is: 4401 kbps about 4 Mbps (tested with 772 KB) Download Speed is: 537 Kb/sec Auth Code: 2066016 (validate a http://www.testmy.net) Bottom Line: 79 times faster than 56K you can download 1MB in 2 second(s) Validation Link :: https://testmy.net/cgi-bin/auth_check_dn.cgi?num=2066016&kbps=4401&gen=gen Also the AUTH check has changes slightly ~~ blah blah blah NjoY!

depends upon who did the install... if you are in an apartment complex it is quite common for you to share a line off a tap. Actually the tap that the line comes off of is a splitter itself ~~~ all a cable system is is a system of splitters and amps. But when you split you lose signal ~~ 3.5 DBmv off each spilt ~~ if it is a three way, that is basically two two way splitters put together so on each leg you will lose 7 on the first leg, 7 on the 2nd leg and 3.5 on the last leg ... go ahead and draw it up ... a two way splitter with another two way on one of the legs of the first .. getting complex yet .. hope not... well, anyway... sometimes at the end of a tap there is too much signal .. and modems hate to have too much signal (and signal strength does NOT play into how fast you will run by the way ~~ quality of signal will effect that ~~ unless your signal is far too high or far too low ~~ there is a happy medium) ~~ sometimes during install a tech will NEED to add a splitter sometimes even when there is nothing on the other leg ... this is to drop the signal to an operational level... there is actually a one way splitter that does this that is called a DC-6 (6DBmv drop) or a DC-9 (9DBmv drop) well the point to all of this is that if splitting had any effect on your modem it would be drastic in most cases... like a totally inoperable modem ~~ splitting does however have a huge effect on analog quality .. but something like digital cable and high speed internet (which are both digital) are either there or not there ~~~ 010100001000100010100011011011001 ~~~ or (NOTHING) ~~~ write back if any more questions that I can overly elaborate on.... ahahahaha

Sorry, but that usually means that there are A LOT of people in your area on cable modem... that is when cable modem traffic jams occur. Don't worry every system has that problem when too many people get on, but cable comapnies expand their network over time to suit the excess traffic. Try crying to your provider... if they get enough complants they might hurry up the process ... who is your provider???

Though the upload test is accurate, it is not perfected (the download speed test is perfected) if your speed is off a bit, I would not worry about it at all, right now the upload test is very accurate up to about 500Kbps ~~ the higher you go from there, the more inaccurate it becomes. I am currently writing a version 8985.245564B (lol I have been developing this test for some time now... with no perfect success)... it is a very difficult script to perfect... the current version I have is using a form submission methd that varries from user to user. But I think I am going to have to code this in another program language to get it right, or make a java applet which I do NOT want to do, because applets are lame. Well anyways, don't trip about it... that is most likely not on your end ~~ but you can 110% trust the download speed test results ~~ you should try uploading via FTP to a server and pull your own results like that... because other sites out there are in the same bind as me... they just won't admit it - Damon

by the way... I can't beleive they are charging.... hahahaha... losers wait... what are you doing at other test sites anyway ... haha, just kidding.
-
by the way... who makeing people pay now.. HAHAHAHA???

Why thank you for the praise. I am very glad you are happy with the functionallity and the fact that this site will ALWAYS be free. To tell you the truth I pick up more than ten times the cost of the dedicated server in ad revinue and also to tell you the truth I do this for fun and even if I broke even I would be happy. ~~ though my site has text advertising I have promised never to have pop-up or anoyance ads on ANY of my sites, I feel those are making the internet a stressful place. Hell, I felt bad for those couple of months that I had some casino ads... the internet should be a place were you can kick off your boots and not have to be bombarded by advertising... blah blah blah I am however building yet another free site I hope you all check out, http://www.tapitorslapit.com/ (MRP and I are working on this together) ~ it's going to be awesome... if you are reading this.. maybe you can be one of our first members ~~ we expect hundeds of thousands ~~ details on site content are not public yet, but we are going to fix every complait about a curtain group of sites by building out own that does not have any of the BS of the other sites ~~ stay tuned.

Nope ... the problem with satellite is latency... and there is no way to make your ping better. This is why people with satellite connections don't play online games ~~ for what it's worth... I feel for you bro, and you will be in my broadband prayors... one day there will be a nice pipe to your home... ... one day. --- and as you said, it is because the data has to go MANY miles through the atmosphere and THEN go back, that takes much more time than going over a network that has all of the long runs done in fiber ~~ you are transmitting to a satellite well over 22,500 miles away. round trip 90,000 miles. Radio waves travel at the speed of light, 300 million meters per second and even at that rate of speed the delay (latency) is going to add up. Sad but true... and there is nothing to fix it By the way, that is also why satellite providers compress data before it is sent to you.. to sort of offset the latency issue. TestMy.net has compressed data packs so when you are testing from here you will at least know that you are testing from packets that are 99% compressed (I mean, when building the test I compressed data.. then compressed the compressed data and so on.. to make sure that no mater what the test would be accurate) so if you are testing from here, you will be testing at your actual line speed (not what your provider wants you to think you are running at ) {{{{{{{ ~~~ a lot of other speed test sites use images that are only partially compressed.. or not at all which to you satellite folk will result in great inaccuracy (look like you are much faster)... not good, and all lies }}}}}}}} - CA3LE

eeewww that is reallly bad upload speed .. how many times have you tested?? you might want to try my patch on the main page ~~ sometimes if you had dial-up before and downloaded some "make your connection faster" thing .. it messes with the settings that patch fixes ... also let me know what your OS is, Browser, CPU, RAM .. all that stuff.
-
it is a little bug in the script I am working out.. when you click back sometimes it will refresh the results with start and stop times that are almost the same.. should have it fixed soon.. as long as you test normally you wont get it.
-
what kind of connection?
-
hehe, I have the same thing at my office ~~ like 3mbit upload
-
DAMN man, that is NIIIICE Post again...
-
That is very nice indeed, 1/2MB /sec used to only be in dreams... haha
-
That's what i was getting too.. then all of a sudden BAM! I am getting 4-5 mbps ~~~ sometimes up to 800Kb/sec ... very wierd... but I am loving it. I'm sure you have seen this post a while back when I first started getting this gain. https://testmy.net/forumz/viewtopic.php?t=31#204

has anyone else in Phx noticed a speed increase lately on Cox HSI I'm not complaining or anything And this speed has held strong for like 3 weeks now... and i have tested at other sites thinking "maybe I coded something wrong" ~~ but nope, it is the same all over the place :-/ pretty COOL! - Damon

Okay I did find a couple of "Math::Round" mistakes in my script very minor though.. they should have never halted the script like that... really wierd that I was never displayed error 500 though... but some people were.. I found some instances in my logs [sat Oct 18 01:36:20 2003] [error] [client XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX] Premature end of script headers: /home/testmyn/public_html/cgi-bin/results.cgi I think it had to do with some mathematic algorithm of some sort... I hope it's fixed now... I made a BUNCH more changes... noticed I forgot to type "exit;" once in the script also, that might have done it to... PERL is so touchy sometimes. And what sucks is when you get an error it's just like "ERROR" and you have to figure it out and then ya find your error and by fixing that you throw some other part of the script off and you get "ERROR" ... I can code strait through without testing the script at all untill the end usually but sometimes I type too fast for my own good and forget to close a comment ~~~ I dunno, i am tired as hell... nite! Let me know if it works 100% for you now kyliebug ~ I like my site to be 100% compatable, yes MRP I know... I am working on a 100% server-side bandwidth test so that people with "side kicks" can test too - Damon
-
oh never mind.. I knew that, what the hell was I thinking.. lol
-
not at all.. you get GREAT speeds ~~ even if you got 1mbps down and 256K up you are still getting a good deal, just ask people with DSL (MRP )
-
You really are getting your moneys worth.. trust me.. very nice score indeed.. how much ya pay.
