I have a Radeon 9800 pro and LOOOOOOOVE it... but with the price range you posted i would persoanlly go with nvidia on this one (although I love ATI... for that price range nvidia is better) ~~~ you should really think about saving up a bit more and getting a 9800 pro (do NOT buy off of ebay, people are running scams on there... selling NON-PRO Radeon 9800 as 9800 Pro's ~~ they update the bios to make it appear to be a 9800 PRO ~~ I got jipped once, had a huge argument with the guy, loong story) but anyway you will be AMAZED at the difference another 100-200 bucks will make

You might try running speed optimizer and tring the various settings at the top ... top options say dial-up / DSL / CABLE .. and so on try different setting till you find one that fits you best...

63 Kb file.. I have no 63 Kb tests ~~~ post your score I am not quite getting your question. With the SmarTest you would be re-directed to a larger test size if you got "4850 kbps" ~~~ But your speed on cable, can be effected by other people in your area... 1 am they are sleeping ~

my RWIN is set to 256960 also... and I am running full throttle ~~ if you are getting a little lower or above your advertised speed... leave it alone

Well your upload speed looks right to me... unfortunately Direcway upload speeds currently average 50-90 Kbps and download speeds of up to 500Kbps. It's sad but you can't make this any faster... You may want to read my port over here http://www.testmy.net/forumz/viewtopic.php?p=291#291 - CA3LE

Well, I am going to make that public then /// update if you score over XXXX (not publicly released) kbps you will be automatically forwarded to the 1000 Kb test for upload ~~ the number is what I beleive to be the cut off of a connection that would need that much upload packets.

Test with the SmarTest before I will beleive that score.

well, at this point.. without looking at the computer in person... I am stuck... if it were my machine I would re-format after trying everything that I could think of. You may have some spyware or something leeching bandwidth, but that still wouldn't make sense because you said you can still download files at normal speed.. I would think that it was a problem with IE... most likely registry. I'd just format it and start with a clean install of XP ~~~ can anyone else help him out?

swimmer is joining in style I see nice to have you in forum I think what swimmer ment to say is... When you download you are also uploading requesting packets of info ~~ if you are downloading or vice-verse it is going to effect the other. It's not like you just talk to the server and say "hey, server, I want poop.zip" --- your computer will request poop.zip talk back and fourth to the server comfirming that you are on the other end still requesting the file ~~ this is also how the progress meter works when you download something it actually downloads in packets of information not as a whole So when you are uploading something and your upload cap is reached your download is being lagged because the request of the packets is being lagged ~~ it's like having a badass delivery service with some fat lazy guy checking in the packages

riiiight above "apply changes" click "optimal settings" ~~~ it will think it for you

nope they won't take off the bandwidth limit.. but on the same token they aren't going to 'really' enforce it either. They set those limits to discourage bandwidth hogs.. and to have a reason to kick people that are drawing heavy bandwidth. They say they are going to do it... but they really don't have a true way to enforce it (yet) without totally suspending your account.. and if you go a few gigs over your quota they will never notice (this is how Cox of phoenix is by they way) ~~~ also when you are talking about a loss or a gain the correct term is dBmV not just dB () ... hehe, just messing with ya... well truely it's dBmV, but I am playin'' ahhhh ~~ well anyway signal loss in some cases can make your connection better... if they dropped the signal down the street and it is effecting you negitively though, you may be on a tap that is RIIIIIIGHT before the next amplifier tap-tap-tap-amp/tap-tap-tap-tap-amp/tap each tap (split) will drop the dBmV of your cable signal and the amps make that signal go great distances past that... (dBmV is in reference to dB [decibal] --- one millivolt across 75 ohms [coaxial cable is 75 ohms... well unless you got a fat kink in it ] just for those who read this and don't know) here is a little bit of over elaborite information... Say you have a line that has 44dB signal strength, and say for instance you are pushing that through 8 port taps (basically 7 two way splitters hooked all together makes an 8-port-tap [2-way...hooked to two more two-ways...hooked to 4 more two ways... makes an 8way]) now a 2 way splitter drop 3.5dBmV on each leg so on the 8 way tap you will lose 3.5+3.5+3.5 = 10.5dBmV -- since you are going through 3-2-way splitters to get to the final leg on the 8-way tap (draw it up and it may make more sense) now in a case like this ~~ the cable company would want to place an amp every third to fourth tap to compensate for this loss ~~ and also the loss of the length of the cable plant (which here in AZ is can be a huge problem because it gets so hot the coax in the ground and on the polls gets so hot and expands sooo much that we need to amp over miles-and-miles of cable that isn't there in the winter so we crank our amps up here in the summer ~ very funny how that works this is all on an extreamly basic scale... I could type for hours and go in depth but I know that already at this point you all have stopped reading ~~~~ ANYpoop! ~~ if you are the tap RIIIIIIGHT before the amp you may have a problem... and you might want to call Comcast out to check your signal quaility... but quantity of signal in ALOT of cases can 'cause more problems than you might think ~~ also the signal strength of data and digital should be in the negitive ~ it needs to be negitive on those QAM's ~~ See how much crap I remember from being a master tech ~~ all from a 22-year-old sales man

Well in that case, yea DSL will fix that packet loss... but your download speeds will be cut by 1/4-1/8 ~~ sounds to me like the problem is from the modem out ~~ not from the computer to the modem. Aldelphia needs to get off thier butts and fix your stuff man... ask them for a service credit for the time they relaxed and made you suffer by the way ~~ they will give it to you as long as you keep on top of them. - Damon

I personally would just keep what you have... you will be more happy. Unless you are hosting a game server your connection should be awesome. Counter-Strike for instance won't ever use more than 5-8 Kb/s ever ~~ and there is no multi-player game that I know of that will chomp down even a limping cable connection. I myself only get about 30 Kb/s (~256kbps) upload... and whenever I game I usually have one of the best pings in the server and my gaming experience is awesome. Don't jump to conclusions about your connection though, DSL will cost you more... and trust me you won't be as happy with it. (and I am not just saying this because I am a sales person for a Cable Company ) Post your download score and I will tell you if you should worry about anything. Thank you... ben working hard ~~ as always your connection is awesome. Just now I uploaded another change to the SmarTest feature. ~~ and changed the test sizes a little bit (little more dynamic for my administrative end)
