  1. Bt repairman , lol never seen one , The Excange is unmaned , I pass it going to work most days, yeah I have been watching the bars on the windows this problem has driven me up the pole but nothing changes , the BT line test requires , a new connection made on the computer with a password , it bypasses the Isp and goes straight to the BT hub test page , you have to enter your line number , it then does a download test, and gives the result in Kbps , (Bt. Engineer test LOL ) no graphics during the test , just the word testing , My ISP, Pipex.com can log in and see the history of the results I can also do another BT test that shows my ISP the disconnects , or failure to connect , but I would have to run that test overnight , , Oh lol Cholla, you have reminded me to run my Dial up 56K Virgin.net service to keep it going (once every 60 days ) as I could be back on that at this rate

Back online after the discon. test again (dual test ) :::.. testmy.net test results ..::: Download Connection is:: 635 Kbps about 0.64 Mbps (tested with 748 kB) Download Speed is:: 78 kB/s Upload Connection is:: 207 Kbps about 0.2 Mbps (tested with 386 kB) Upload Speed is:: 25 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net (Server 1) Test Time:: 2006/10/21 - 2:18pm D-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-Y8E23VTRU U-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-8U2BRYJXI User Agent:: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; Maxthon) [!] Hi Cholla, will reply next
  3. Hi Fiber Optic , that was the dual test , it ran out of time (7sec.) If it had run the full test it would have been a race against the Queens 100 birthday Telegram getting here first I did other UK tests that confirmed TMN results, I have just done the same dual test , the modem is sync. at 2.3Mb this time , lower than the first test (2.7Mb ) but lol, this test is much better, managed to do the BT hub line test and got 1917Kbps , which ties up with this test result = :::.. testmy.net test results ..::: Download Connection is:: 1837 Kbps about 1.84 Mbps (tested with 2992 kB) Download Speed is:: 224 kB/s Upload Connection is:: 226 Kbps about 0.2 Mbps (tested with 386 kB) Upload Speed is:: 28 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net (Server 1) Test Time:: 2006/10/21 - 1:34pm D-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-YW4AVNZ5I U-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-9C5MLYPV8 User Agent:: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; Maxthon) [!] It looks to me that congestion and line length is the problem , and I doubt I will never see more than this speed on this BT line, not that I expected any better , but it was nice at signing up to be given a estimate of 5Mb from Pipex.com Just had a disconnect, took half hour to get back on
  4. Hi Cholla , I have just formated/Partitioned and installed Xp home (friends puter ) added firewall and anti-virus , went on line and validated Xp, downloaded I.E.7 , ran a scan with AVG, did a couple of speed tests , all was OK, no other programs added, just put on ad-aware and the result no Alexa, just a few cookies, removed them manually , ran ad-aware again , nothing critical detected , I.E. 7. ? personally not that unpressed, but I will play with it some more, Xp Home ? ditto viva Xp Pro with partitioned hard drive , and regular auto system recovery back ups
  5. Todays test of my amazing 8Mb :::.. testmy.net test results ..::: Download Connection is:: 271 Kbps about 0.27 Mbps (tested with 386 kB) Download Speed is:: 33 kB/s Upload Connection is:: 205 Kbps about 0.2 Mbps (tested with 386 kB) Upload Speed is:: 25 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net (Server 1) Test Time:: 2006/10/21 - 10:14am D-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-3QV18IRG2 U-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-ECML7Y846 User Agent:: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; Maxthon) [!] now back to my old 250Kbps service speeds
  6. I guess this has nothing to do with I.E.7 but my Adobe photodeluxe causes Outlook to go nuts , so I uninstalled it ( Outlook ) have you got all the updates on office ?
  7. right enough Just, but the worst part is once you are signed up and wait the 10 days for the line to adapt , then find out your true lack of speed , your ISP will say it is beyond their network, go and complain to BT, so BT says go and complain to your ISP and you go round in ever decreasing circles, My ISP has given me details to do a speed test direct to the BT hub, lol, I was unable to compete the test because of congestion, I found this small print when I signed up Can I get 8Mb speeds with Pipex? Pipex was a member of the original group of ISP's that tested the IPstream Max service over the BT Wholesale network in the summer of 2005. IPstream Max is designed to offer broadband download speeds of up to 8Mb and upload speeds of 448Kb . Business services should have an upload speed of 832Kb. We have now launched 8Mb broadband services for all residential products. Whether or not you can actually get 8Mb is totally dependant on your BT line. However, once you make an order with us we will check your BT line to see what speed you can actually get. no they didn't , well they never told me if they did , now they want me to do the testing for them ,
  8. ouch bad news, I got the feeling that 3+Gb of music has gone down the pan, I hope I am wrong on that , maybe somebody has a better answer than me, Regards Roco
  9. Oooops sorry AMC, I am not having a good day, can I ask why you need this, is it for damaged hard drive or to reformat etc. or to recover lost data , rest2514 from snap files.com worked for me in recovering deleted data regards Roco
  10. , guess it didn't work then ?
  11. Good question Fiber Optic, I wish the person that did get the full 8Mb would stand up , the average for London is 2.4 Mb , nobody in the survey got over 3Mb, some only 500Kb I think the 8Mb service was lead by the Gov,to catch up with the rest of the world, so we now have up to 8Mb on offer and no help if you get over 600Kbps as that is BT 's min before they will take any notice , something the ISP's dont mention b4 you sign up my Isp's estimate b4 I signed ( thanks Fiber Optic )
  12. Hi Just 2.75 Km on a 50y old line on a congested exchange, so not much hope for me with adsl, , Telewest do a phone and cable package, so soon as I can I am going for it,
  13. Hey wasup with showing your location, mine UK, all that is needed, for help with speeds etc, TMN . wont end up on your porch (or will they, Shugs has threatend LOL ), it just makes it so much easier if I/we !, know which Continent, i.e. USA , India , France , UK, etc. sorry if I have missed your country out, be proud , where are you from ? so whats my problem , well, I read a post in help, about slow speeds , check his profile , location blank , and find he is with Comcast, ? , so I assume he is in the USA , ? just bitching , we aren't all from the USA y'know , Carry on the good work chaps, best forum on the web IMHO, Regards Roco UK P.S. UK members, stand up and be counted, I reckon about 100 UK members, just prove me wrong Title modified by shug7272
  14. Hey guys lets cut to the chase , there is water ( UK member and surrounded by it ) and there is Water !, water quenches the thirst . Water refreshes the parts that mere water cannot reach , IMHO
  15. Thanks Tommie, I appreciated that, yeah it gets a bit lonely at times taking on a big ISP, I set the first trap and they walked straight into it , but they will now be a bit more cautious in future, so the battle goes on, but with TMN covering my back, I feel confident of the outcome Fibre Optic , it sync's at 1.7-2.9 Mb, but the true speed is 1.8Mb as it negotiates down to that level, my line test to the BT hub is as follows = The speed test has completed on test server speedtester1.nat.bt.com for user 0208xxx and you have downloaded a 1.7Mb file at a speed of 1817 kilo bits per second (Kbps), your service bandwidth will have been quoted to you in kilo bits per second. Your IP address is 217.xx.xx.xxx your browser is reported as being Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 and is running on Windows XP. BT would regard the speed ranges shown below as normal service: For 250kbps End Users speeds between 50 - 250kbps. For 500kbps End Users speeds between 100 - 500kbps. For 1000kbps End Users speeds between 200 - 1000kbps. For 2000kbps End Users speeds between 400 - 2000kbps. You may now disconnect from the speed test account (click 'disconnect' in your internet connection window) and if you wish to regain normal access to the internet please re-connect to your ISP using your usual username and password. Please note that test results may vary according to varying traffic in the network. If you continue to experience slower throughput when logged in to your ISP, this may be due to a slow internet site or high traffic levels beyond the BT Wholesale Network. Please report this situation to your ISP's helpdesk. LOL , passing the buck . I aint going that route , I have purchased a 8Mb service, my ISP is taking the money, is it my fault they didn't check my line and Exchange, (due care and diligence, UK law ) was I told this speed or lack of it would happen ? I got this on signing up
  16. about 3500 miles so I guess 1Mb's is my hope
  17. latest update , got a reply to my request for help from Pipex.com my ISP.and some British Telcom tests to do, and suggestions that P2P /file sharing could be the problem , NOT ! and the advice that if my tests prove higher than 800Kbps on a 8Mb service they will be unable to help , I have pointed out I am posting this infomation on Testmy.net, for the benefit of other UK members with a similar speed problem, Unable to complete the suggested tests as the site was congested , and I got a disconnect thrown in for free, so I guess the problem moves up another notch,
  18. Great to hear from you tstillery . good to hear things are going OK, Keep in touch, P.s. don't forget to put your fingers in your ears when the big gun goes bang , regards and best wishes Roco UK
  19. Yeah, thanks Fiber Optic, I thought I was the only one to think that way , LOL, kinda makes me sad to see pipex go that way, I wonder how many $$$$$$ the adverts cost ?, and why use the Hassle-hof, if they only used a fraction of that cost Pipex could have the #1 adsl service, IMHO --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pipex History = The original company was established in 1991, originating from Unipalm, a software reseller in Cambridge, as the first commercial ISP in Britain. It initially operated with a 64k transatlantic leased line to UUNET. One of its first customers was Demon Internet. The new Pipex company went on to offer domestic broadband services using BT's ADSL system, rapidly gaining market share by competitive pricing. It was announced in October 2003 that it had been purchased by GX Networks plc, for

Download Stats ..::: Download Connection is:: 407 Kbps about 0.4 Mbps (tested with 386 kB) Download Speed is:: 50 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (Server 1) Test Time:: 2006/10/17 - 2:09pm Bottom Line:: 7X faster than 56K 1MB Download in 20.48 sec Tested from a 386 kB file and took 7.781 seconds to complete Download Diagnosis:: May need help : running at only 23.9 % of your hosts average (pipex.com) D-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-8ROX4EM5Z User Agent:: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; Maxthon) [!] and only 4 disconnects this evening

  25. same comments from me , but not a woman, but a smack around the head, I just think he couldn't say "I duno " personaly I duno lots of things about computers , but that is the first step to learning , and a reason to be on TMN. Win M.E. is my favorite os. I was on 95, before that, I nearly dumped Xp, and went back , I never had your problem on ME, but that was a while back, but I should be getting a Puter with ME in soon to sort out, ( remove Norton) it will be a save Doc's etc, and a reload , including AVG , so maybe I will be able to comment more on this problem then, as clearly others with ME are having the same problem on the AVG forum
