Regenrative braking , best applied to electric power, that has been around since the 60's , but nobody is willing to be the pack leader with electric. the 4 wheel electric milk delivery vehicle is still firmly fixed in drivers minds, so they all rush out and buy a 3ltr. BMW, and crawl to work at 9 mph.
-
Hi Tstillery , yeah you were right on the tank
-
Yeah, you are right on that 5-7 mpg , It would never been a suitable power unit for UK road conditions, our Traffic flow in the London area has now fallen below the speed of 18 century horse and coach speeds 9 mph, it is very rare to drive more than 200 yards without touching the brakes, I reckon electric motive power will be here soon enough ,

Never seen anyone in the UK get 8Mb with ADSL, it is sold on the UP to 8Mb I just done the BT engineer line test to my exchange (2miles) and got this ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The speed test has completed on test server test.speedtester.bt.com for user 0208xxxxxxx and you have downloaded a 1.7Mb file at a speed of 1905 kilo bits per second (Kbps), your service bandwidth will have been quoted to you in kilo bits per second. Your IP address is 217.47.xx.xxx, your browser is reported as being Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 and is running on Windows XP. BT would regard the speed ranges shown below as normal service: For 250kbps End Users speeds between 50 - 250kbps. For 500kbps End Users speeds between 100 - 500kbps. For 1000kbps End Users speeds between 200 - 1000kbps. For 2000kbps End Users speeds between 400 - 2000kbps. You may now disconnect from the speed test account (click 'disconnect' in your internet connection window) and if you wish to regain normal access to the internet please re-connect to your ISP using your usual username and password. Please note that test results may vary according to varying traffic in the network. If you continue to experience slower throughput when logged in to your ISP, this may be due to a slow internet site or high traffic levels beyond the BT Wholesale Network. Please report this situation to your ISP's helpdesk. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- but BT is happy to sell me the up to 8Mb service ? but note the low speed complaint level, below that they will not provide any assistance , I loose about 5-10% testing in the USA,

Daiquirii, IMHO the second mistake, was involving you Dad, poor guy got the rough end of it , , still I guess thats what Dads are for, hope you get it sorted soon though

Hi Guys , I found a Singer Team car at http://www.brooklandsmuseum.com/motoring_exhibits.cfm I took the grandchildren for a day out, the aircraft picture is off the terrible 2, nah, only kidding they are great, they had just been given instructuion on flying a 4 engined jet, the stall light had just come on , follow by the warning siren just after I took the Pic. they both left their seats by about a foot , yeah ok, it made me jump also, , I got to sit in a De'Haviland Chipmonk, the last time was 43 years ago, either the plane has shrunk, or I have got bigger, no comment

Time UP ! it is a French, Panhard Pl 17 bought out by Citroen in the 60's , and car production stopped but they still make Mil. vehicles

Hey Guys , bit offtopic , but Ugly car ! I find the USA/European car tastes so remarkably different , some time back I posted a picture of the Citroen DS, still considered a design Icon in Europe, but ugly in the states ? and yes we think the American cars are Ugly, no insult both ways I am sure , I think the main difference is even back in the 60's we had the need for streamlined cars with small engines, as fuel cost have allways been higher than in the states, and led to 2 totally types of cars, also the roads in Europe were more suited to smaller cars with good handling, I have never driven a car in the UK with cruise control But back in the 60's I had a drive of a Chev bellair conv. it drove like a bus, and wouldn't fit down some of our sideroads , my own car at the time was the Mini Cooper S , so it was from one extreme to another, guess horses for courses, sums it up , I will post the answer to the car in 1/2 hour as it is rare one, 2cylinder 750cc roller bearing crank, drysump , family car, normaly hardtop , French, P.S. my revenge for failing to recognise the Brit Singer roadster

The won their class at Le Mans 24 hour, body shell made of alloy ,in its National racing colour ( like the uk's british racing green )

Hi, it's a AMC Rambler Clipper Oh lol , many years back, I was sailing off the coast of Bournemouth UK , There was a bit of swell about , coming out from the quay was a amphicar with Miss Bournemouth and her maid of honour, it was a advertising stunt for a hotel , they were sitting on top of the rear seat squab , waving regally to the crowds on the beach, I could see what was going to happen , so I hove to , sure enough as the car turned broadside on to the waves , it started taking on water , lot's of shrieks from the girls , panic from the driver , I shielded the carboat until he managed to turn back , he drove/cruised back as fast as he could , never seen a carboat surf up the beach b4 LOL , Miss Bournemouth hit the driver with her bunch of flowers and stormed off , anyone know this car 1960's

Yeah guess you are right,

Hi drstein12 wellcome to the forum The same spec as one of my puters 38/51 C looks just about normal , If you CPU runs + 20C above your room temperature , you are doing OK with stock air cool heatsink , the Athlon 2.8 is ok to 75C ,but I would not like to see it go over 60C on mine Regards Roco UK
-
but make sure the moisture trap is working ok , otherwise you might as well throw the puter in the washing machine no no, don't try that at home folks Tommie got any view on using compressed air on the M/B , just wondered about a static charge developing , with the blast of air across it, I used a nylon brush once, only once mind you, expensive lesson

Hi Cholla , I think you can get the prefilter in different thicknesses, just thought some vacuum, cleaners use a thin prefilter just in front of the fan, maybe a apliance repair shop may use it ? looks like the flexitube is not availible in the UK and at
-
Hi Guys , re the *Pre- filter, normally they can be washed , if you have any connection with Hospital/Laboratory engineers ? as the clean rooms use Hepa filters, usually they have a pre-filter in front of the expensive Hepa filter, it is like woven cotton wool , it can be bought by the mtr. about 3/4 inch thick , it often has a red stripe printed on it , when the red line disappears it's time to change it , I like the link for Flexible tube, as the 2CV uses 4 tubes of that diameter to dump the hot air from the engine (Air Cooled ) Citroen original tubes are of a cardboard construction but using tumble dryer tube increases the noise factor , so I will look into your link Hepa http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HEPA more info http://www.antonimex.com/en/page11_en.html *Pre filter =Intake filter Washable polyamide fiber filter EU3 DIN 24185

HiCholla, it looks a interesting project, I am all for moving the warm air from the puter to outside the house , as that would also take some of the noise with it , and I have thought of using a flexy hose from a tumble dryer , connected to the output of the PSU grill , through the flexible to a extractor fan in the house wall , I like the pre filter idea, my only concern is it would have be easily removable for cleaning , maybe once a week , as houses in the UK have fitted carpets throughtout , and do create a lot of dust , but saying that temperatures in the house remain at around 68-77F all year round in UK without A/C, most of the time , our 101 F a few weeks back almost caused meltdown in UK, today it is 62F , so we have lost around 40F in a week or so, and closer to our summer average of 71F, My CPU , AMD 2.8 Ghz is running at 40C _104F , that looks OK to me, Dust is my main problem , after 2 years without taking the case apart , temps had reached 51 C, _128 F,still a aceptable temperatue , sorry if I seemed to be a Luddite ( LOL, that is a Engish term for a person that resists change , it came from the late 18 centry , a group of people went round smashing machinery as they feared lose of work , yeah, they were hung for there troubles ) But I guess you people have more of a temperature problem than UK members have
-
thanks for that disturbed , I will try that again as I allways used Artic silver b4 and found it good, the worst I have found was the stick on pads, last month I was given a puter Pent 3 that kept BSOD, the heatsink was liying on the floor of the case ,
-
Just to add to this debate, I have used expensive silver paste and the cheap paste that comes with the processor and never saw any difference in temp. but dust has raised the temp by 10C on my puter after 2 years, the problem with alternative Heatsinks is weight they often are above the M/B socket limit , and there is nothing more sad than a good M/B with a broken heat sink mount IMHO my cpu is running 40 C with ambient room at 23C ,Cpu running at 4% just checked
-
Hi Cholla , I am not into overclocking, if I want to go faster I would buy/build a better rig, I am more concerned about noise though, most processor will run at 70C without a problem , for stock air cooled puter, or water for that, cannot run lower than ambient room temp, how much above depends on the efficiency of the cooling system, so yes a good heatsink/paste, and air through put would aid the efficiency, as far as using refrigeration. unless you live in the middle of the Sahara desert, or force the proccesor beyond it's designed limit, I can't see the point, you are just moving the unwanted heat someware else (Global warming ) just my view on this, feel free to disagree,
-
Hi Cholla, yes they both look good, I tend to stick with what I know, and I have a list of software too use on a reload (about 2 a year ) I hate hauling programs I don't use and only have 4,5 GB on C , Xp+sp2 word etc. , I store all the junk on a second drive, LOL
