Hi Cholla Yeah, I got a pop up box , titled Internet explorer, infomation if any , with a OK button , no further info as to what infomation this applied to , so i clicked OK still no draw opened , sorry I cant help any further, I also turned off AV and firewall , still the same result . but I can remember that test from about 4 years back , with the CD draw opening, I thought it spooky at the time , I was on 56k dial up for 3 years , and paying by the minute , till I found a program called Tick by really effective , it can be set to count costs ,as well as data sent and received , so it proved for me, a set price B/B was the cheaper option , our national telcom B.T.also only provides voice quality , my line got damaged , so I climbed the pole and repaired it just had a thought have you tried F.Fox , would be interesting to see if that did the same Roco

How is the speed ? still ok , post some test results from Testmy.net . as you should not be getting such a wide speed variation,

Hi Cholla , sorry for the delay, We had a power outage for a day yesterday and my laptop was uncharged , :I have just done the test on O/S Me , with dial up and broad band ,with and without A/V and firewall , I did get a I.E. pop up box " infomation if any " with a "OK" button , but NO CD draw opened , although I had the latest I.Explorer SP1 for 9x , maybe that a update would solve your problem ? I am 8202 ft from my local exchange on a 40 year old line, and it has ADSL on it, and was told to expect a reduction in speed due to that, so maybe 47Kbps is really good , I used to get 51.Kbps my line will only support 2Mbps ASDL anyway , so I am running 256 Kbps B/B, no I don't post in "how Fast are you topics" LOL but it suits my needs, as I ain't going anywere in a hurry Roco UK

Well I will eat my hat or should that be cap ,! how long has it been OK and are you happy with the speed you now have ? I think only you can make that decision , but if it was me I would cancel , no point in paying out good money, you can always call them out another time , if it go's down again although you would have to wait again , 3.5 -5Mb on a 6Mb line is a bit low, if you are testing here , I get a steady speed within 5% of my cap , Regards Roco UK

Hi, cholla, just been through this sh*t , you are going to at this , it started about about a month back , never had one b4, it hinted at a ram problem, so I went through all the procedures, reseated the memory, no change, so I did all the mem. tests , no fault, looked at temperatures , all within limits, tried a automatic restore point , 3 month's back , lost a lot of info. in the process , no change, posted on testmy.net, this again pointed to memory problems , nah, did not believe that ( 1 GB of Crucial finest ) did a clean install , and within 5 Min's. BSOD, :angnry5:opened the box , checked all connections, reseated the CPU , after running around finding some heatsink paste, no change , I was stumped , swapped the memory , no change , played with page file size , on 2nd H/D, then got error Page file , My page file is on my 2nd hard drive, which is mounted in a caddy, the slide lock was in the mid position , moved it to lock , problem gone P.S. the G/F. had given the puter a polish , the ex G/F maybe :lol:

Hi jawads wellcome to the forum , what O/S are you running , M.E. or Xp , asd you have more options with Xp , but with either restore's you can go back and forwards, with restore points made regards Roco UK
