why does tcp/IP analyzer recommend change?
VanBuren replied to bent240LV's topic in Make it Faster...
hey bent240LV your using windows XP with SP2 right? with SP2 the analyzers will read "DefaultReceiveWindow" instead of "TcpWindowSize" the TcpWindowSize suppose to be multiple with your MSS quote from http://www.dslnuts.com/2kxp.shtml "32. TcpWindowSize - This parameter determines the maximum TCP receive window size offered by the system. The receive window specifies the number of bytes a sender may transmit without receiving an acknowledgment. In general, larger receive windows will improve performance over high (delay * bandwidth ) networks. For highest efficiency, the receive window should be an even multiple of the TCP Maximum Segment Size (MSS). Value Type: REG_DWORD -

when using the router, make sure to set your NIC to 100 Mbps full duplex you can test bypass it aswell, then set your NIC to "Auto" i made 2 files you can test good luck VanBuren

hey hook and welcome to the forum thats some nice speed, lets see if we can make it even faster... unless the router holding you back what kinda scores do you get on TP Test? www.tptest.se run this analyzer http://www.dslreports.com/tweaks , when you get result, copy whole URL adress and paste it here so we can see it VanBuren

quote from http://dcplusplus.sourceforge.net/faq/faq.php?display=faq&faqnr=40&catnr=3&prog=1&lang=en "DC++ : Using DC++ : Slow downloads speeds! Question: Answer: If you experience slow downloads, it could be for many reasons: You need to optimize your operating system for your current connection speed. First close all Peer to Peer (P2P) applications. Next run the TweakTest on this site. Once you have optimized it, then run a Speed Test (best idea to select the site closest to your location). This will give you a good idea what your maximum download and upload speeds are. If you're getting within 10% of your connection speed, that's the best you can get! If you are having trouble with your broadband connection, and it relates to packet loss, excessive latency, or internet or ISP congestion, running the Line Quality Test may help find the cause (requires logon, free signup). The persons upload bandwidth who you are downloading from is maxed out. Don't pay attention to the speed listed in the connection type column, its completely subjective and often is not a true reflection on the persons connection type since they can set it. Find a person with fewer slots used, which should result in faster speeds. The person who you are downloading from is using a bandwidth limiter. There are two types: client based and third-party program. * Often the client based types have set download/upload speed ratios in place so its not completely unfair. (e.x. If the upload speed limit is set below 6 kB/s, then the client will restrict the client download speed to a 2:1 ratio). This varies from client to client and obviously not all support upload limiting. This type of speed limiting only restricts the uploading of files. It does not limit getting the user lists or searches. * A common third-party program that people use for limiting speed is NetLimiter. This type of speed limiting is absolute; meaning it can/does limit the speed which you get/send filelists, userlists and searches. One can suspect a person is using a tool such as NetLimiter when you're downloads are under 1kB/s. You are sharing the internet connection with others on your LAN and they are using up all the available bandwidth. Tell them to knock it off =) QoS Packet Scheduler Bandwidth Limiting might be enabled on the operating system. Follow this guide on how to disable it on XP/Win2K3. Windows 9x/ME/2K does not natively come with QoS. QoS can also be enabled on your router (not by default though). Look through the manual on how to check if its enabled. Your ISP may be limiting your P2P traffic via some method of packet shaping. This is very common at Universities and at the workplace. Call up the ISP and inquire if they do anything with P2P traffic. If the ISP does throttle you, then there is nothing that can be done to increase the speeds. With asymmetrical connections (incoming data capacity is greater than outgoing, i.e. DSL, Cable, Satellite), uploading near your maximum will affect your downloading speed. For this, you can use the "Use small send buffer" under File -> Settings -> Advanced. If the "Use small send buffer" still does not improve your download speed when you are uploading at the same time, then get a client with an upload limiter Check the list of client features for those which have one. Set the upload limit to 85% of your upload speed. (ex. you have a 256kbps upload. 256kbps / 8 bytes = 32 kB/s. 32kB/s * 0.85 = 27.2kB/s. Set the upload limit to 27 kB/s). " VanBuren

hes plan is 512 Kbps down, dont know upstream.. my plan is 10 000 Kbps up and down VanBuren
-
hes in Singapore, thats approx 200 to 250 ms ping to testmy.net maxing out the connection on that ping is almost impossible he also need to add approx 10% TCP overhead on hes score here thats 321 x 1.1 = 353,1 / 512 = 69% of hes cap thats normal, on a 200 to 250 ms ping i max out at around 69% of my 10 Mbps cap aswell VanBuren
-
i would leave it like that VanBuren
-
hey phantom and welcome to the forum you wont get 512 Kbps all the way from .sg i suggest you stick to default values, cos when you get loss cablenut settings will slow you down due to large RWIN open Dr.Tcp again make sure all fields is blank, if you see any value in any field, use delete and erase them, set all other options as Default now click save and exit open cablenut, click delete cablenut tweaks and click save to registry now reboot your PC and make a new speed and tweaktest VanBuren

Very slow download speed when upgrading to 2mb!!!
VanBuren replied to mike.roz's topic in Make it Faster...
well, the settings you have is fine, and the pathping is also fine, that makes me think your modem freaks out when your giving it some load eg during a upload or download. It might also me a driver/hardware problem in your NIC. VanBuren -

1. What OS are you running, ex win 98, win xp, if you have XP make sure you have SP2 installed! Also download the p2p fix for SP2 here https://www.speedguide.net/read_articles.php?id=1497 If you have a MAC try this program http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/12591 2. What service do you have, what is the advertised speed for download/upload. 3. What tweakprograms you already got installed, and run this test http://www.dslreports.com/tweaks copy and paste result URL adress in your post! 4. What speed do you have against www.testmy.net and http://nitro.ucsc.edu/ also download this Tracert and Ping program (made by PHP ) https://testmy.net/forum/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=3341.0;id=1352 and click on autocheck.exe, when its done, just right click and paste all the result in your post.
