  1. Welcome to the forum boogielove. I wish I could give you an answer as a welcome present, but I'm afraid idk what centurytel is, so I doubt that I could help. Hope someone gets to help you out.
  2. I was wondering if you guys us indexing programs, and if that is the case, which one do you use? I find the one on vista sweet, but I'm looking for one for XP. I tried Google desktop, the indexing was nice but it had too many bells and whistles I didn't care about. So, what do you guys think is the best one out there?
  3. That video is awesome. I can't believe they didn't err, maybe close the tunnel? Or maybe its like that all the time
  4. Thx guys, seems to work. Are there other usefull modifications to the ping command?
  5. I think that ME/2000 have just stopped being supported recently, like in the last month. Then again, I can't find my source, so I might be wrong. Any other reason than auto-backup to go for pro? Never had an entire os crash on me and not recover with xp home.
  6. I see that most power users choose XP pro over xp home, but I never understood why. I read the main differences, and I find that for anyone that doesn't have to have remote desktop or an advanced network, there virtually is no difference. Then again, I've never really used XP pro. What do you guys think? Why would you go for one or the other?
  7. Newegg seems nice, but i don't think they ship in Canada. Tigerdirect has a canadian file and it has always served me right, mainly for gadgets tho. As video cards go, i'm Nvidia, but mainly because I know them. And it IS too bad that we can't overclock in vista
  8. How do you change the default number of times it pings? My standard ping in command prompt does it 4 times.
  9. Storm, I LOVE you. Well, in a certain manner. It was actually my time zone that had a problem (thought I checked it). Well anyways, its all good now, my faith in you guys is restored (not that I had doubted for a moment)
  10. So, no one has any ideas? I'm sorry to insist, just passing on the pressure from my mother. I find that I oftentimes post problems that I think are impossible to resolve here and you guys have not failed me yet so does anyone know where outlook takes its time/date from?
  11. Althought I might repeat myself, i'l say: Go figure I did a search for the missing dll on my computer, even thought it wasent found last time, it was this time, copied it to the executable's folder, ran the exe and it worked. I'l never understand how computers work on the inside. But thx for your help all of you.
  12. Drawing graphs, resolving integrals, resolving matrix among other things. I know matlab can do the job too but my university mainly uses Mathematica so i'l stick with what it has. I had already used that version before on the same comp, but my HD got erased and somehow I can't reinstall it. Anyways, its not incompatible hardware. Jeffwalker, i'l give your links a try, thx The problem's not with the CD (there is no CD, its a pirate version). What is weird is that the standalone one can run on an usb key, my friend says, so I don't understand how a dll could be missing. Checked wolfram's website, and there seems to be no file downloads.
  13. Huh, it worked Go figure, its IE Another program i'm having a hard time with is Mathematica. It won't finish installation, it just quits. Ive tried a standalone version and they say that there's a missing dll (even tho its a standalone...). I know its quite vague, but i'm just wondering if you have ideas on how to solve that. Tried to uninstall everything, but that would be hard since installation was actually never completed...
  14. Its been like that for a while, but when I open IE7, the window pops up for a second and then closes. I checked with process explorer, the process comes up and terminates within a second. I don't mind too much because I use firefox but I still need IE to download updates. I run on XP. A google search gives me plenty of results but none fix my problem. I scanned with nod32 and ad-aware and theres seems to be no malware. Any ideas?
  15. water, you're so popular! even your radio website has you on first page! when I grow up, I want to be just like you. Well, a male version of you maybe.
  16. Said so in another post, but i'l do it again: Happy B-day dear water, happy B-day to you!! I'd put all these fancy smileys but idk how to, so just imagine they are there.
  17. :2funny: This tip is awesome. Gonna change my sister's background with something she won't expect. Keep posting em pics. Oh, and yeah, happy bday Water. Well, it's still tuesday where I live, so I'm not really late
  18. For some reason, the time of arrival of e-mails is not correct in my version, its a few hours early. Anyone know where the settings to change that are? I checked in my global timezone settings in the control panel and everything looks good, does outlook have an override? thx.
  19. Ok, voltageman I tried changing the BIOS and that indeed was the problem. The default is usb 2.0 disabled So i enabled it as you said but my drivers still havent updated and if I try to update them by doing the search the net option, they find them to be up to date. There is still no mention of "advanced" or whatever in the name of the devices. Any ideas? I have seen that the "this device could be operating faster" message doesn't pop anymore, is there any way to check the transfer speed?
  20. Asus doesn't support vista drivers yet. But it does seem to be a driver issue because the motherboard is supposed to have usb2 ports. Any ideas as to where to download them? thx
  21. Well, all I want are the fans to stop blowing and the hard drive to stop working.
  22. I have vista buisness RTM (build 6000) and it works great in many respects. One of the problems tho is that I can't get it to go to sleep when its on the user switching screen. The monitor goes off but the computer never dozes down. Anyone know how to make it sleep after a certain amount of time? I used the only administrator account on it to set auto-sleep times, but they don't seem to affect the user select screen. Thx
  23. Also, If there is a problem with the box and not the hard drive, you just send the box and they will send you a refurbished one. It is actually explicitly stated somewhere (but i'm too lazy to find it in my browsing history) that if you send your hard drive, controller or anything else that is not defective, you might never see them again Its good to know that if your HD fails, they replace the downloaded data on it. For the rest of the data tho, half the text on their return policy is to say that they are not responsible for it, so don't put your graduations picture on there and burn the originals, cause they won't make you graduate again.
  24. I got a custom rig delivered for christmas, installed vista on it, everything was fine until I discovered that my usb ports were all usb 1.1 So i would like to change that to 2.0, but idk if you can just buy that, or if you have to change the whole motherboard. Is it possible that it is just a driver issue that does not recognise them as usb 2? I am quite surprised that my circa 100$ motherboard would come with usb1.1 whistle my 5 year old comp has usb2. Is there any way to check the transfer speed explicitly? thx.
  25. Hadent done it from inside, it was from my bios, and I agree that doing it from inside windows isn't great.
