  1. Not many people have the same type of connections that Dataservers have... We are talking OC connections and some serious hardware to get that stuff running.. Plus any home connection unless it is a business class connection you are going to get crap for uploads and even then you are sharing bandwidth with all of the other people on the node..
  2. If you cant see it then i am wondering if other can see it.. Send me a pm or post the url of the site and we will let you know.. My guess would be that you have the firewall on the host system configured wrong. Otherwise it should work as long as you have the system set up right.
  3. No unless you are dropping packets along the way.. My question is why you are hosting 5 servers at your house and not on a rack in a data center when they can give you the speed and network connection that would allow for lower pings?
  4. Umm... i dont know if that is true 100%.. I would like to see this site.. IE6 fixed some of the stability issues that 5.5 had back in the day.. However it also made it kinda of slow.. I remember when IE was fast to load and quick to browse with. I dont know if you want to remove it then. You might want to try opera, firefox, or one of the other open souce free browsers. Nothing is ever going to be 100% secure. There will always be debates over which browser is the best.. However, it comes down to personal preference. I personally like Firefox 1.5 a lot and dont really plan on switching to IE 7. I was not impressed with it when I got the original beta for windows vista.
  5. There is a way to roll back to a pervious version.. But I believe if you have sp2 then you are stuck with IE6. I have heard of people completly removing it before.. but then some of the functionality go out the window.. But the system is more secure they say.. <- never tried it.. and dont really plan on it..
  6. It is a big deal.. but not huge.. there is still protection currently with Windows Data Execution Prevention... By default this is turned on all windows xp sp2 systems. That is the software side of the protection. On the hardware side you have the Execute Disable Bit (XD) from intel and no-execute page-protection (NX) from AMD. AS OF RIGHT NOW THERE IS NO SIGN THAT THIS exploit is affecting these systems. However, that does not mean that it will not mutate and beable to bypass them. However, you must have both hardware and software to be semi protected.. If you have an Athlon 64 or a 90-nanometer-process Pentium 4 "Prescott" you should have the hardware side taken care of. For more info on DEP check out this page http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;875352#3 For more info on The WFM exploit/flaw http://computerworld.co.nz/news.nsf/news/B4714903757E6CBECC2570EB001286D4
  7. It could be filtered by the IT dept.. not really a mission critical site..
  8. 34 characters.. with $1$ look like MD5 for php... i believe it is the crypt function.. here is what i found.. http://www.php.net/manual/en/function.crypt.php <?php if (CRYPT_STD_DES == 1) { echo 'Standard DES: ' . crypt('rasmuslerdorf', 'rl') . "n"; } if (CRYPT_EXT_DES == 1) { echo 'Extended DES: ' . crypt('rasmuslerdorf', '_J9..rasm') . "n"; } if (CRYPT_MD5 == 1) { echo 'MD5: ' . crypt('rasmuslerdorf', '$1$rasmusle$') . "n"; } if (CRYPT_BLOWFISH == 1) { echo 'Blowfish: ' . crypt('rasmuslerdorf', '$2a$07$rasmuslerd...........$') . "n"; } ?> The above example will output something similar to: Standard DES: rl.3StKT.4T8M Extended DES: _J9..rasmBYk8r9AiWNc MD5: $1$rasmusle$rISCgZzpwk3UhDidwXvin0 Blowfish: $2a$07$rasmuslerd............nIdrcHdxcUxWomQX9j6kvERCFjTg7Ra
  9. that makes sence.. you have a 802.11g router.. it is feasable to get up to 54mbps off of that baby... so 20mbps is not to much to ask of it..
  10. p2p xp fix.. you are going to need to tell me a little bit more info on the specific patch or file that you overwrote..
  11. Alright first of all 802.11b is only going to be good up 11mbps.. which really means between 4.0 and 7.5Mbps. So you will NEVER get the full speed on this setup. You are going to want to apply some of the Cablenut tweaks to the adaptor.. that should increase your speed up to a point then the technology of 802.11b is going to limit the overall speed of your network. You might want to think about upgrading to an 802.11g router. I would check out newegg or zipzoomfly for some deals.. I know that currenly you can get a netgear router , 802.11g, for about 30.00 shipped in 2 days. However you are also going to have to upgrade your adaptors also..
  12. The network is looking kinda crappy from your end.. Looks like Level3 is having routing problems.. again. I would wait a little bit and see if anything clears up.. Level3 is known to do this when they are unhappy about a contract or FCC ruling. Also one other ISP was reporting an outage due to a failed fiber connection. Cogent appears to have a failed fiber connection in the Seattle area. <- this still has yet to be resolved it look like so they have routed to a different backbone..
  13. This is a list of all of the recoreded os flaws in all of the major operating systems for the year 2005. http://www.us-cert.gov/cas/bulletins/SB2005.html check it out.. Kinda of intersting..
  14. I just got my 1.8 centrino w/ 512mb, 60 gig 7200rpm hd to boot under 30. Not to bad.. I have yet touch the process start tree.. As far as mac users on the forum.. there have been a few over the time that I have been here.. Most of them with powerbooks. I have yet to meet anyone with a G4 of G5. I have used windows for just about all of my life and was forced to use OS X for the first time last semester. Part of a "see what else there is in the world of computers" course. I must admit that OS X does have some nice features. But I couldnt make the switch. To many nit picky things that I think windows does better. But they are beautiful machines!
  15. From what I have read.. It is better for someone who has no idea what they are doing, not that you dont but you have not installed watercooling before, to go with at kit system. http://www.3dgameman.com/videos_cooling_main.html check that page out.. they have a bunch of video reviews of kits that are made for beginners..

  17. That is an excellent point.. With CES 2006 just around the corner it would make sense for them to sell the fact that they are going to be the sole provider for processors on the MAC platform.. However, I think that it would have made a bigger splash with the Intel Inside slogan still on the badge of those cases. BTW it is expected that Apple makes an announcement at CES that they are switching over production on some models to the Intel based processors. Which ones.. no one can say for sure.
  18. What service level do you have and what type of router are you using?
  19. I would have to agree with Shug.. I dont find Intel's advancements in the desktop arena all that impressive. Notebooks.. different story.. I was checking out theinquirer.net.. their article says that there is already a register trademark using that phrase "leap ahead" here is the link.. http://tess2.uspto.gov/bin/showfield?f=toc&state=qa6ann.1.1&p_search=searchss&p_L=50&BackReference=&p_plural=yes&p_s_PARA1=&p_tagrepl%7E%3A=PARA1%24LD&expr=PARA1+AND+PARA2&p_s_PARA2=Leap+Ahead&p_tagrepl%7E%3A=PARA2%24COMB&p_op_ALL=AND&a_default=search&a_search=Submit+Query&a_search=Submit+Query Looks like the auto one is dead but the Leap Ahead Readers is live and does not register "readers" as part of their trademark..
  20. I dont think this is going to work at all... Intel Inside has to be one of the most recognizable slogans in the last 15 or so years... I understand that they want a new face but still why would you get rid of something that has been with you from the start? As far as the new slogan here is what the business people from bloomberg are saying.. The most important thing that does bring up was that when intel introduced the "Intel Inside" slogan it was suppose to mean that it didn't matter what the brand of the computer it was as long as had an Intel Inside you were getting a great computer. With dominance of AMD in the past few years it doesn't supprise me to much that Intel is trying to make a move on AMD. So far even the new 65nm dual core (Pentium Extreme Edition 955) from Intel has yet to top the 4800+ X2 from AMD. Does it beat it.. yes slightly.. But it isn't going to take over the market anytime soon. Remember.. the is the EE version that we are talking about.. This is good.. http://LEAPSBEYOND.COM ... Hmm.. maybe this wasnt such as great idea..
  21. Check this out.. http://www.pcworld.com/reviews/article/0,aid,123950,pg,7,00.asp Some old memories..
  22. Alright the first thing i would do would be to log into the router and make sure that you have the latest firmware. http://192.168.0.1 If you do then make sure that your computer is not in the DMZ.

    BUS Speed

Yeah it is one of those things that just doesnt make a whole lot of sence when you try and thing of it.. here are some more links that explain it... http://www.gen-x-pc.com/fsb_info.htm http://www.directron.com/fsbguide.html <- expert guide..
  24. Alright.. For some reason this sounds like some one might be plugging your connection with some type of attack.. and then comcast pulls the plug to prevent massive amounts of bandwidth to plug the node. The power cycle my guess would issue a new ip to you, my guess is. So to fix this... I dont know that Netgear makes a combo unit.. I know that Motorola does and I have told people to stay away from it. The more you try and make hardware do the more problems you are going to have. Put the model number up here and maybe there is a config page that you can access and make some changes to the firewall settings..
