My guess is that it is cheaper to offer a full speed line through the co than it is to make it a fractional line.. take a look at this.. http://t1.covad.com/products/t1/t1.shtml As far as the local loop cost.. I am not sure that there would be any.. My guess is that is covered in the monthly price.

Ok i was able to get some ball park numbers.. This is all based off of T1 pricing.. T1(1.544Mbps)= $450 per month OC-3(155Mbps)100xT1s = $45000 OC-12(622Mbps) 4xOC-3s = $135K OC-48(2.5 Gbps) 4xOC-12s = $540K OC-192 ( 9.6Gbps) 4xOC-48s= $2.16million Again this is just rough guess.. OC-24 would be 2xOC12s.. so about $270K per month.. lol that would be one hell of a connection.. Just to put into perspective how fast that is.. You would need a PCI Fiber NIC.. The speed test would result in something around this range.. 155.5 MB/sec [Megabyte-per-second] Which is faster than than PCI v1.0.. So you would need PCI 2.0 which has a pipe of 533MB/s... That is for a OC-24.. Hope that helps a little bit.. one other thing.. this is not going to come in like cable.. you are going to have to have some pretty expensive routing equipment.. I am not sure how accurate that 17k i posted earlier is really correct.. OC-3 - 155 megabits per second (100 T1s) Ave. cost $20,000.-$45,000./mo. http://www.infobahn.com/research-information.htm
  5. "Covad is the largest national wholesaler, and also sells direct. Despite going through bankruptcy, they have generally delivered better service than the bells. Consumers can buy through EarthLink and directly. Prices are similar to the bells, with deals that change often." So they sell network bandwidth to regional ISPs...
  6. yeah.. it works.. but most people dont use it because they are not sure how to use it.. with the website it is easier.. but most people still like a GUI.. but yes it does rock.

http://www.computerworld.com/careertopics/careers/story/0,10801,60464,00.html that is a good site for what you "need".. Talking with the a sr manager for Abbott Labs IT.. he thought that the more education the better.. Certs mean that you know how to do it one way.. not the most effective but a way.. It also leads to a dependency.. so if that company doesnt offer the solution.. it cant be done.. just one view point. http://www.computerworld.com/careertopics/careers/skills/story/0,10801,104322,00.html?SKC=skills-104322 good article.. of what i am kinda talking about..

I doesnt really matter about what certs you have.. It matter what you know.. Anyone can get a cert.. not everyone can get a masters.. It will help in the $$ but it will not guarentee 100k a year.. You are also going to need 5+ years of experience to even get close to that figure.
  16. you dont need a program.. you can do it manually.. doesnt affect boot time at all.. http://www.overclockersclub.com/guides/hackxpbootscreen.php
  17. if you dont want them to start.. edit msconfig.. the other thing that you could do is edit the run folder in registry..
  18. server problem on their end.. time out means that the server is running at full speed or is offline.. http://www.avast.com/eng/down_home.html that will get you the software.. to get the updates.. if the server is timing out.. try again later... it isnt that abnormal for those to time out.. AVG's update server goes down quite a bit... Just try again later.. Microsoft's firewall will not effect this.. it doesnt scan out going traffic.. you might want to consider getting a firewall also..
  19. umm.. let me make sure that i understand your question... you have some files and media player on a client.. and you want to be able to take those files.. and play them on the server.. with out moving the files and using the clients media player?
