  1. Here is my rule of thumb.. ever 6 months i reformat.. It gets rid of old drivers, programs that I have uninstalled, and any other little things living in my computer. Why didnt you start fresh when you first got the computer? how could you stand all of the extra crap installed.

  3. I am not a huge fan of the USB adaptors.. you can get about 44.2mbps at the router if you are right next to it.. and about 6.2 at 200 feet.. according to cnet. Try the drivers and see what happens.. the other thing that you might consider doing would be to relocate your wired computer..
  4. on the site it is like 130 per month..
  5. Umm.. yeah that would be a good call.. here we come linux?
  6. Yeah I thought you couldnt install over an old copy of windows.. hmm.. something to try on the next reformat...
  7. Here is one HELL of a deal.. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1358091&CatId=0 Has an 8x agp slot.. 256mb of ram.. 40 gig hard drive. Get a monitor, upgrade the ram, install a graphics card.. This would be a great pc to learn on..
  8. dont you have to do that to begin with? That is what I have always done..
  9. I hope you are running a server on that.. ?
  10. If you reformat you will start with a fresh copy of windows.. Nothing on it..
  11. Formatting doenst write zeros on each sector.. Formatting replaces the control structors.. basically making your drive feel like new but all of the data is still there.. There is just nothing connecting it all. A Zero-fill utility is normally provided by the drive manufacture..
  12. Classic how to install windows with out a cd key.. Hmm.. Better not let microsoft see your computer
  13. It just sits there or is it doing something? That is really wierd.. I have had that happen once but then i just skipped the file and kept going.. Are you installing on the same partition that you normally do?
  14. Damn that is nice.. do you know if they have a no server policy? Are you on their business class dsl?
  15. PHP has got it.. about 99% of the time quick will work out fine..
  16. That is a nice little setup you have there.. Celeron D is ok.. for a starter computer.. Looks like you get everything exept for os, opticals, and speakers.
  17. Then newer amds are alright.. the Turion's look to be a nice platform.. However, the Pentium M has speed step. Amd has powernow.. I am not sure how that work but from what I can get from their website it looks like one you set it you are locked at that speed.. I am an intel fan all the way for the mobile platform. However, AMD might have a winner here. it is just going to take sometime for them to get into the market. Here is what CNet had to say about the chips.. performance vs. battery life. http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-7602_7-1016082-3.html?tag=tnav#processor I am not sure if i agree 100% about this.. i think they might have an intel bias..
  18. That is very true in the desktop/mobile world.. However, when it comes to top of the line server, stuff that is running 32+ CPUs at one time the Power 5, IBM's new chip, with dual core and multithread 64bit processor kicks the crap out of everything. That means that each core, 2 cores, can handel 2 threads at a time or 4 threads total. You are not going to find this in your mom and pops shop.. In a recent benchmark a 64 processor IBM server with the POWER5 1.9GHz processors clocked 3.2 million transactions per minute. The previous record for an Intel 1.08 million.. And yes that is with 64 Itanium2 1.6GHz Test:http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20041120-4412.html Table of top 10 scores: http://www.tpc.org/tpcc/results/tpcc_perf_results.asp?resulttype=noncluster IBM Server used in the test:http://www-03.ibm.com/servers/eserver/pseries/hardware/highend/595_browse.html HP Server used in the test:http://www.hp.com/products1/servers/integrity/superdome_high_end/index.html <- configured with 1tb of memory.. Did you know that IBM was also thinking about releasing a single core 64bit desktop version.. O well to bad for apple.. They might have finally had something to brag about.. The 3.2 score is from 2004.. the 32 chip setup just kick the crap out of the 64 Intel chip setup this year.. Here is just a little something to show you how fast these computers really are.. This is from one of my earlier posts about a year ago.. It is a cnet article http://news.com.com/Defense+bill+could+stifle+computer+trade/2100-7341_3-5253873.html?tag=cnetfd.buzz talking about restricting computer sales to 3rd world countries.. MTOPS=Millions of Theoretical Operations Per Second here is my original post.. https://testmy.net/forum/index.php?topic=462.0 Doesnt even mention the 64 chip Power 5..
  19. you can download the latest drivers from s3's site.. that would give you something to do. http://www.s3graphics.com/legacy.jsp follow the instruction on the top of the page for figuring out which ones you need.
  20. If the screen has safe mode in all four corners then it is going to be a driver issue.. Try reinstalling the drivers to the primary display..
  21. That is Maho Beach http://www.airliners.net/search/photo.search?front=yes&maxres=500&keywords=Maho+Beach It is very real.. other wise there are a hell of alot of people making these photos look really good.. I guess the beach was lost according to the picture after the hurricane season of 04
