Direct connect... does that involve a computer??

Ok the summers coolest games are just around the corner... Half life 2 is going to be released some time in august and Doom3 ( latest date that I saw was the 3rd...) either way both are going to take 4 to 5 cds to load the game on to your computer... Here are the system specs: minimum spec would be a 1.2GHz powered PC with 256MB RAM, Win 98/ME/2000/XP and a DirectX 7 compatible graphics card. But for those who want to see the game running in all its glory, be prepared to spec up to around a 2.4 GHz machine, with 512MB RAM, Windows 2000/XP and a DirectX 9 capable graphics card. Both are expect to run on TI 4200s at low res... What I mean to say is that you can expect about 40 to 60 fps on low res with that card... now you want the ultimate quality with the eye candy... I am guessing 9800pro might be able to push it... I would think that there is going to be a driver release before the games come out so that both ati and the nvidia cards are ready for them...

ok the requirement for xbox live are... I am almost positive that the requirements are 256kbs upload and atleast 512kbs download... I dont understand what is going on with your connection... The only thing that I can recommend is to check out the faq on xbox.com http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/live/default.htm That should take you to the connection faq... read about that stuff... If that doesnt work what kind of network setup do you currently have?? If your router doesnt support xbox live you could be out of luck...maybe... There might be a firmware update that will allow you to connect... Have you ever been able to play??

the upload would amaze me... the download is fairly normal...

I just installed that on to a test computer... We will see how good it is in a few weeks... I am not to fond of their update stuff be that is ok as long as it works... I hate the google toolbar.... I have a friend who is now trying to clean his computer because some how it allowed his browser to become hijacked... As soon as we removed it and cleaned the system the computer was running better but there were still pop up like mad... be careful!! I would never download any "toolbars" from anyone... I think you are just asking for trouble..

again it depends on where you are and the network load at the time... Dont disappointed if you are slower than some of use right now... We are going to be slower that you to other sites.... here is my stats for gblx.com Ping statistics for 207.218.55.251: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss), Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 28ms, Maximum = 40ms, Average = 31ms

go with the cisco... My guess is that there is something some where in that setup that is either causing a bottleneck or you have port throttling on somewhere... Do you have a hardware firewall? ie redbox?

If I remember correctly xbox live is hosted on servers.. unlike xbconnect... Which means that if the server is under load and the bandwidth is being sucked up then everyone is running slow... My guess is that it isnt you but the server on the other end... The only suggestion is to get into games with low ping numbers and hope for the best... Post you advertized speed and we can let you know if you have the right stuff to play... I can play with my 4300/256 connection really well... Bairly any lag..

I read some where that it is recommended that every 6 months you reformat... I believe that the microsoft people redo their entire computer every month or so... just to keep them running smooth... Now I dont know how Microsoft can expect grandma to figure out the difference between ntfs and fat32 then expect them to find all the drivers that they need to make their computer work like they originally had it... The only thing that really works for me is ghosting a computer... reinstall the os and then make a iso copy of the hard drive... that way when things are running slow and you want a fresh start you pop in the cd copy it over and boom you have a new computer... Here is the general idea... http://www.iamnotageek.com/showthread.php?threadid=5533

dont worry about winamp or major geeks... They have it set so that people cant ping them for some reason... Probally a DoS attack or something.. Even on the tracert it doesnt show the end server's ip... 101ms is a little high but that is ok depending on where you are... I am running about 60ms.... Run some other pings and then average them...
-
well if it is staying put then leave it alone... The only other thing that i can think of is that some one around you might have been interfering with your signal or you ISP was doing some work on the system..

Just the plain internet security from Nortan does a good job with ads and popups... I have yet to see anything to make me want to remove this program... I am not a big mac fan but that is ok... I love the g5 case!! That is one impressive computer!! I think that linux does the same if not more for people that Apple does for the mac world... I will say that MAC is undoubtly the leader in video editing and photo rendering... Just to watch what quick time can do is really impressive

that is awesome!! The only problem with our mall around here is that the police are real bastards.... So if we were to try and pull something like that I am sure that we would be caught... Plus the police also provide security for our mall... It is kinda wierd.. I guess the town doesnt like the cabs staging in the parking lot to pick up peole to go to O'Hare... The cabbies are really wierd here

I was talking download... I know all about your upload...

since we are on this subject here is an interesting little article... looks like IE's popularity went down a little in June of this year... The first time in over a decade... It fell from 95.48% of all personal computer world wide to 94.42%... The main reason.. security and Netscape and other open source variants... Like Firefox... which by the way hit an all time record for the program with a little over 200,000 download per day from download.com ... O by the way the Apple people dont use IE any more... They use some wacky program called Safari... Now there is an original name... "Honey, what are you doing on the G5 right now?" "I am on a Safari.." Hell I think microsoft should rename IE the "Great Adventure with tons of security holes and bottom less pit of popups" That would attract people to download it..

Ok more news from the Microsoft team... Next month... will be the release of the SP2... current size is 274mb which includes all of the updates in the four catigories that this service pack will contain: networking security, memory management, e-mail security, and browsing security... No big suprises here but this patch was to come out last month.. o well it looks like MS is up to its old tricks again... -
It is a pretty solid machine... It is large but still portable... I like it a lot so i guess that is all that matters... I think I am going to put it up against a 64bit hp that my friend just bought.... 1.8 centrino vs. 3000+ 64bit We will see

So now that I have my new laptop I decided to download netstumbler and hit the road... before i go any farther i would like to remind you all that it is illegal to connect to anyone elses wireless network with out their consent... I know that I might have said that it was ok before but after doing some legal research it is againt the law, no questions asked... So i decided to see how many people really knew what they were doing in my local area... I wanted to see what type of systems were running and wether someone in a car could actually drive by and connect to their systems because there was no protection at all... I did not connect to anyones system or their network because again that is illegal... but i was able to determine wether or not they had wep enabled on their network... After about 45 min of driving in a town of about 20000 in the northeasten suburbs of Chicago I was able to get 245 known Access Points, APs, from my car driving 25-40 mph... 51% had no WEP protection enabled and of those 90% of them were on their default setting, Channel 6 and Default set as the SSID... A large number of those were the 802.11b Linksys models... There were a few that had been move to other channels my guess is that someone was not happy with the proformance so they change the channel but forgot about the ssid and the WEP.... The ones that were protected for the most part were the 802.11b Dlink turbo systems that run at 22mbs, the 802.11b/g Linksys, and some of the 802.11b linksys... I have very few of the netgear routers and I had no 108mbs routers Or atleast they werent running that fast... Although my card is only 54mbs qualified.... Overall I thought it was a really cool thing... I just drove around and listened to my laptop make all sorts of noise when I would hit a residential area... I even drove past some of my friends homes to find out that their stuff was unprotected and still setup like it had just come out of the box... The coolest one that I picked up was at a local coffee shop... That one i can legally connect to... So dont act like a noob... enable the wep protection and get a ssid that is original... That way if some dude in a beat up volvo decides to hack the CIA or something you will not provide the access he needs... Plus who wants to share the speed they got with the entire world?

I dont think you need to have a filter on the line that your modem is on... However if you use like a y adaptor, so that you can also have a telephone on the same line, you will then need a line filter... I am not positive on this because I have cable... My friend has sbc dsl and he doesnt have a filter on the modem line..

I dont use it i just got the link...

seems that the link is dead... The only thing that i dont like about firefox is that you have do download all the extra plugins... That is a pain in the ass UPDATE: Here is the correct link http://www.softpedia.com/public/cat/12/3/12-3-112.shtml

The only reason that I would say that is because Comcast's network isnt that bad.. I have comcast and I have never had speed like that unless that are doing upgrades
