  5. The 2x512 is pretty standard on dual channel setups. If you do you the Asus motherboard there is a preinstalled heatsink on the Northbridge. You can leave it or change it out for a liquid one. It will not make any noise becasue it is passive.

Ok lorne now you get to help me!! ::: Download Stats ::: Connection is: 2032 Kbps about 2 Mbps (tested with 1496 KB) Download Speed is: 248 KB/sec Auth Code: 2030481 (validate a http://www.testmy.net) Bottom Line: 36 times faster than 56K you can download 1MB in 4.13 second(s) Validation Link :: https://testmy.net/cgi-bin/auth_check.cgi?ta=&top=&num=2030481&kbps=2032&gen=gen&a=6.28571428571429&b=0&c=1145.14285714286 Really bad!! my Rwin value is 255552. I have downloaded the software and everything and not much has happened. Got any ideas??
  9. You could be experiencing growing pains!! I dont know what COX does as far a insuring speed to their customers while they expand but comcast doesnt care at all. They will continue to grow even though everyone experiences a slow down. Give it a little time it should get better.
  10. Where are you seeing that?? O on my system. I dont think that will effect the proformance. The FX chip has a 128bit memory controller and the 3400+ is only a 64bit controller. The only difference that i can tell is that the highest memory bandwidth achieved by the fx chip is two time that of the 3400+. My guess is that the memory is clocked in a way to provide more responce and shorter access times for the increased memory bandwidth. Good question!!! I will look further into this some time today!
  11. Yeah... I have 2 foot warmers the graphic card and the ps. 550 watts of power!!!!!!! yeah baby yeah!! The graphics card i have no idea what the point of the 2 fans are. The processor is running stock so my guess is that Asus knew everyone and their brother was going to overclock the thing and included a massive cooling solution. I havent heard anything bad about it yet either. Everyone was complaining about the fx5900s when they took up a pci slot and the agp slot. I hope it doesnt sound like a weedwacker!!! I will not be building this any time soon.. No $$ right now.
  12. yeah we shall show them the light..
  13. Thanks! You soon will be able to hand me my smoking remains with the pimputer. I have CDW, Tigerdirect and a mom and pop shop all local so it is kinda nice.. I have connections so i get good equipment for cheap. I will post a pic of my setup.
  14. you got that right.. But you will enjoy first!
  15. This is just a hobby..... i will not be building anything like this for some time. But I love to help people with this type of stuff. Check out my rigs spec under the hardware thing about benchmarking a amd and intel celeron.

  17. Umm... you know what that is a really good question. I believe that if the ram is DDR is capable of being dual channel with any manufacturer. You just have to buy the same size and speed!! Then that would effectivly create Dual Channel. Mort am i correct on this???
  18. Ok i know you might scream but I think that the Athlon 64 FX-51 might not be the chip that I would use for the pimputer. After surfing Extemetech.com for a little while I found this artical. http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,3973,1426496,00.asp Athlon 64 3400+. Not only are they running the 3400+, 3200+, FX-51, and the intel 3.2 extreme from what i can tell, but they are also running the Asus mobo that seems to be the mobo of the pimputer, 2x256 ddr pc3200 kingston memory chips and 2x 36 gig westen digital raptors on raid 0. Now the graphic card isnt the 9800xt but who cares. After looking at the results and the price. This may amaze you... The 3400+ is the fastest by a large margin. Lets put it this way. The 3400+ kept up with or beat the fx-51 and the 3.2 intel. Even in GAMING!!! Take a look and be the judge... I think the right chip for the pimputer is the 3400+. By the way the FX-51 is $733.00 and the 3400+ is only $429.00 the 3.2extreme is $985.00
  19. After reading this post my friend decided that benchmarking wouldnt be as much fun as he thought. Since then he has bought a BFG Technologies FX5200 256mb PCI graphics card. Saddly he doesnt have an AGP port for this new card. I guess that is what you get for $400... I on the other hand have done nothing to my setup. I am thinking about getting some OCZ ram at pc2100. If you want to see a sweet setup check out the build it faster post in the Overclocking/Product Feedback. Lorne is building a Pimputer based around the Amd 64bit processor.
  20. Yah i would agree!! that is pretty fast right now...

However the price difference beweet dual channel 1 gig and 512 is huge!!! For the OCZ Memory Review check here http://www.3dgameman.com/vr/ramstore/ocz_dc_ddr_el_pc_3200/video_review.html

    1000!!

LOL but the site is growning!! And he isnt spamming he is building the pimputer
  23. with the ram u selected you have 2 512 chips. So... you could get 1 more stick and that would be it. I would think that 1 gig of ram is more then enough.
  24. I have a motorola sb5100 and it is sweet! Fast and reliable. I dont know if you would need a nic card!! The Pimputer has an intergrated 10/100/1000 on the south bridge!!! So that would be faster in terms of speed than any other pic intel based nic card.
  25. Looks good to me. How much ram u going to install please tell me over 512mb!!! That is a good mobo for this project, Asus K8T800. it says 4x for memory. This mobo only has 3 slots. Try and buy the largest chip you can afford then start adding. So like a 1 gig chip of ram for slot one would be good!! Check out this site http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/memory/OCZ+EL+DDR+PC-3200+Platinum+Edition OCZ technologies. They have some of the more agressive timings and settings. Other than that looks like a great system!!! Cosair is also a great memory manufacturer!!
