  1. very nice! What package are you on?
  2. alright.. Nothing is selected in the Lan settings either?
  3. All they do is contain information about the download itself.. Most of the time it is just a tag/plug from the place that you got it from..
  4. I am not 100% sure of what you are asking.. if you are referring to the DHCP service then yes it does need to be on.. IF you have a static IP address from your ISP and you are not using a router then you could disable it but it is recommended that you just leave it on..
  5. Depends if you are buying it for the right reasons or not.. If you are buying it so that you can uncap the ISP then no.. it is not good.. Cause you will be caught.. Also it might not work on your ISP's network to begin with.. most of the older modems no longer work on the newer networks..
  6. I would try clearing the history, cache, and temp files for IE6.. Then make sure that you dont have a proxy set up and that there is nothing configured under the connections panel of the Internet tool section.
  7. that is a pretty good deal!! little over $1000 for a dual core..
  8. If you plug in you ethernet cable near the top of the computer.. if not then it is PCI..
  9. Yes.. I just found it.. and it was published on Tom's Hardware about 10 min ago.. http://www.testmy.net/articles/article-330#more-330 Check it out..
  10. A Network Interface Card that is part of the Motherboard.. It is faster because it directly connected to the south bridge..
  11. http://www.pcmech.com/byopc/ That is the best one that i know of.. it is a little out dated.. unless they updated it in the last year or so..
  12. You have a fine machine for what you want to do.. There is nothing for you to really do.. Even with a store bought system that is a killer system.. Believe me it is not your computer.. If you have an onboard nic then you have the fastest setup you can have!
  13. Alright here is the deal.. PA is a hot spot right now.. comcast is aware of it.. Keep taking a look at the tracerts and if they get worse for more than 24-48 hours.. give them a call.. Now theplanet is currently doing some network maintainance.. So the high pings are not unusual.. I would not worry about that. But the keep an eye on the Comcast network portion.
  14. if you want a nice all around computer.. I think these are the things to take a look into.. CPU: AMD Athlon X2 This is pretty much the pinnicle of modern processors... It is the fastest non-gaming dual core processor out there and pretty much will live up to anything that is going to be released in the next 5-7 years. The only problem.. these babies are expensive!! Like really expensive.. RAM: The old idea was that 1 gig is for gamers and crazy computer people.. Now with all the memory intensive apps.. The more the better.. I would say that 1 gig is now the new minimum.. With Vista just around the corner I would suggest going with atleast 1 gig! Hard drive: If you are looking for crazy fast performance then look no further than the Western digital Raptor series of drives. These babies are 10,000rpm of pure speed. Put them raid 0 and you will most likely have the fastest storage system with 20 miles of your house. CES 2006 brought use the 150 gig version which you can check out here.. http://www.wdraptorx.com/index.asp?bhcp=1 Again you want the best you are going to pay for it.. $350 is the street price right now! Video: Since you are building a system that is going to be pretty much a gaming system why not put something that is atleast respectable. I would say that the Nvidia 6800 series would be a good choice. Motherboard: You are going to want something that is going to be able to be upgraded in the future.. So that mean that atleast 2x 16xPCI-E slots and SATA II.. That should be a good little start to get you an idea of what you want to look for in a system.. I am sure that the guys can come up with some pretty good systems.
  15. glad it worked.. now you can enjoy the new laptop! I would suggest maybe picking a router so that you can still use the other one if you wanted..
  16. o what fun.. it is nice how they decided 3 days to run a bunch of upgrades.. HAHA level3 down for only 1 hour and cause minimal lag and packetloss
  17. Looks alright from my end.. I didnt notice it going down.. I am sure that CA3LE would know if anything was going on with the network... 19. If I remember correctly.. When he dies his children will NOT be recieving all of his money... instead it will be dontated to organizations around the world.. Of course they will get some but not all! I think it is a great thing for someone who has that much money to do something productive with it instead of just allowing it to site in a bank account some where in the world. On this subject.. http://www.wired.com/news/columns/0,70072-0.html?tw Gate vs. Jobs.. in the area of helping the world..

  22. He does one huge donation every year.. I guess it is a way to get his taxes lower? I mean $600 million.. that is more than most lottery jackpots before taxes!
  23. i am sure that someone will be reviewing one shortly...
  24. yeah i wouldnt be suprise if it was in the last few hours.. the World Economic Forum is going on right now in Switzerland... Michael Dell has been making some news while he has been there.. he has already begun fielding questions about moving to AMD in the near future.. So the fact that this product was release this week is not a huge suprise. I would love to hear some review on these new laptops.. Is this the new platform for the old 9300 series? it looks like the same chassis but different name and specs...
  25. If you are running dual routers... This is how you are going to want to set it up.. otherwise you can run into trouble with the router fighting about who assigns the IP address..
