If you could. Maybe hold of on vista and put xp back on it. Give vista at least a service pack before reinstalling it. Or if your harddrive is big enough, partition it out and put xp on its own partition. At least you can play with your computer til you get the parts. If parts are gonna be cashy maybe consider building a new one? That can be done little bit at a time and much better than a pre build job. Its really easy to do. I did it. Do wanna say I am NOT a fan of vista. I had it for about a month, got rid of it and do not want it back. Faster and better than xp? Not for me. Maybe after the 2nd service pack. Not until then. Just my 2 cents. I run a dual core with 2 gig of dual channel ram.

And in 6 months there will be something else. With video cards its always something new. They are worse than cpus. Always changing. I just think a 150 bucks worth of video card should be plently to get your game on. Unless your a hardcore gammer. If your hardcore then sure, shoot for the 200 card. After talking to some hardcore gammers, they pretty much thought the same thing. No sense dropping the big money in a card if your not gonna push it. Don't need dual core cpu just to surf the net. If my card gets to the point it will no longer plays the games, then I will upgrade. Will say a mid level pci card will play fear no problems. Seen it. Sometimes spending to much money for to little needs is just pointless. Just my 2 cents. Lewis got a feel for what I wanted, hooked me up right. Will always be grateful for that. Right now. I just started and love playing snoopy vs the red barron. Its silly, but fun at the same time. Woodstock rides the bombs into the ship . I have not even started call of dulty 2 yet. Im so far behind. I only play a couple hours a day 2 or 3 days a week.

Looks like the card does not come with the dreded vista drivers I will probally need. I do have xp pro I use the most. But have that garbage called vista on my other drive. If you would be so kind. I know not allot about video cards. But Im ready to put one in my computer. 200 is the max I wanna spend. needs to be pci-e Im thinking something like a 7600 maybe. I know I can get the 8600 for really close to 200.00. I just not sure I need that much card. Im a average gammer. Don't play online, I just play when Im bored and can not sleep. Unless someone can convince me that the 8600 is truly worth the extra 50 or 60 bucks. I would think the 7600 for 150 or whatever would do me just fine. I just wanna be able to play the latest greatest games. I don't care about the fps, or bragging rights, or anything like that. Any imput greatly apreciated. In short 150.00 If I can but will stretch it to 200 if someone can convince me its something I really need to do. If you could provide the links would greatly apreciate it. Go to the cable forums, look for dsl cable forums. Then just ask for a cablenut tweak. mccoffee is the one that really helped me.

The guy that made the settings for me over in the cablenut forum must really be one hardcore connection person. He or She really knows how to make that thing fly. The settings I got, have made a super huge diffrence. The defaults were nice, but wow. I am impressed.

I just recently found a way to watch full version movies on the net. No its not warez, no its not torrents. Most I find are maybe a year older, some younger. It shocks me how many sites there are to do this. Its a hit a miss. Some are still there. Some are gone. Thought about going into better detail with you all but im unsure if its ok or not. You don't download anything to your computer, No files, I also consider the fact you could really play stupid on this one. Catch any garbage, hey you just followed a link, clicked on it and the movie played. Your not playing with torrents, or p2p or anything. I will leave it to the mods. If I get the ok from them I will go into better detail. If not, I am saying nothing.

I have been messing around a bit with cablenut. While the defaults they offer work fine, I found a web site that will make your own custom cablenut file. http://j79zlr.com/cablenutXP2k.php . So I have been fooling around with that a bit here and there. Learned allot. Understand the basics a bit better. Really appreciate the information and help with the latency. I'm not a online gamer. But with google. I got the latency to drop from 53 to 19. Now I am sure those numbers will change. I am sure its no biggie. Just goofing off and messing around. Learning a bit as I go. Ok when deciding on latency. Do I want the high or low number or someplace in between? Also I saw when checking latency. Its a good idea to do so while downloading a file. I would think thats wrong? Or is it right?

I will be the first to admit when it comes to internet connections its just not one of my strong points. So if you all would have a bit of time, maybe you would be so kind to help this redneck understand it a bit better. Tried the guides and searched the forums, for some reason I just not sure I understand it right. Hope you all can help. I found the program to test my ping that someone made in this forum. Now if I understand it right. My latency is the time in ms it takes for the ping to go from point A to B then Back to Point A. So I ping a site, Its how long it takes the ping to hit the site and make it back to my computer? Do I understand that right?

Oh I can understand the frustration as well. When you have a loved one or friend calling and asking for help. Well I just go fix it. And show them what i did, how I did it, how to undo it. I will always keep this story in the back of my head while helping others. I just gotta make sure to explain things to someone like they can barley find the start button to turn on the computer. That is NOT a insult to anyone. We all had to start and learn. Always rember, your question may seem simple, its the ones us geeks love to answer the most. But I will disagree with the person that said it was my sons fault. It was my fault for not explaing it better. Just because I know it, I can never assume someone else does. Your average user can be super intimated by the computer. Freaked out about hitting the wrong button. So if they are unsure, most the time they will not hit it. Its how I became a geek. I have hit the "oh well sh@# button" lots of times. "Are you sure you want windows to change these settings?" I click the yes button. Then scream "O well sh@#!" Time to reload windows again. Where is my disk.

Thats a great way to describe what proxithon does. I will forsure use that. Yea before I get blasted. I know tons of spelling, grammer and such. Its just a ruf draft. Sure hope you all can offer some useful and helpful information. As well I am open to ideas and suggestion. I can not stress this enough though. I really need your help guys and gals. Below is a rough copy of a guide to use proxomitron. Anything you can ad would be greatly aprciated. Some stuff Im missing is how to set it up for internet explore. While It probally will be of little use to firefox users ya never know, so that would help as well. Also any tweaks or settings in proxomitron itself that need or should be changed that are not set by default. Thanks guys!! Of course I will give you all credit. I can not and will not take credit for the information below. I just found some here and there on the internet and compiled it to make it a bit easier to run and use proxomithon. To make it a bit easier to understand. Proxomithon works just like admuncher. Only Proxomithon is free. Works great at blocking adverstisement and banner ads on the net. I find so many avoid proxomithon (myself included) because the just don't understand how to use it. I hope this guide will simplify the set up and use of it. Sadly the maker of proxomithon passed away a few years ago. I promise it still works great even today with vista and xp. This guy was Smart. Udated filter lists can still be downloaded and used to this very day. Setting Proxomithon up for Opera version 9. Open Opera browser Type....opera:config#Proxy in the url bar. Automatic proxy configuration url stays blank Enable http 1.1 for proxy put a check mark in the box Ftp Server...... localhost:8080 Gopher server..... localhost:8080 HTTP Server...... localhost:8080 HTTPS Server..... localhost:8080 No Proxy servers..... localhost:8080 Put a checkmark in the box next to "use http" The rest of boxes stay unchecked. Hit the save button, Restart opera. For Maxthon2 Browser Open Maxhon2 and then go to "Tools->Proxy->Proxy Setup Menu" of Maxthon2 and select "Add". Then you give the following details: Name: Proximitron Address: localhost:8080 Type: HTTP Then select OK and close the Proxy Setup window. Then set the Proximitron proxy active by selecting it from "Tools->Proxy->Proximitron". It might be necessary to close and restart Maxthon2 for the setting to actually take effect. For Maxthon Browser Open Maxthon Go to Options,proxy,proxy setup Hit the green plus sign on the left side of the box that is open, Ad the following information Name: Proximitron Address: localhost:8080 Type: HTTP To start your browser when you start proximitron. Open Proximitron......configure.....startup tab.....run entry below when proxomiton starts...then browse to your browser exe file. A caution......once you set your browser with the above settings, your browser will not work corectly unles proximitron is running. So if proximitron is not running and you open your browser, you will see "page could not be found" Ok now you need to install the filter list. http://www.users.on.net/~grypen/Downloads/?C=M;O=D Download the files, open it up, run the exe file and your all set. Check the site from time to time for filter updates, download the new filter list and run the exe file. No need to uninstall the previous list. It will just overwrite the old list. For latest opera proxo filter list. Go to opera forums....software.....look for Proxomitron:highly flexible thread started by tamil. Look at the very last page of the thread. You will find a link to the latest version there. It is the same as the grypen set only with a few tweaks just for opera.

Conversation between me and my son. Son lives 2 hour drive away. He is 18 Phone rings..... Hey dad computer is acting funny, ran virus scans but nothing comes up wrong. No problem kid reboot the computer hit f8 and select start windows safe mode with networking. Thanks dad see ya...... Hour later Hey dad I hit f8 and I can not get windows to boot into safe mode. I don't see the screen you told me about....... Huh?? Ohhhhhh hit and hold f8 Ok Thanks dad Last call before I head to bed to check on my son Well kid did it work?? I can hear the frustration in his voice, he is stressed No dad. Darn thing still won't work. There is something wrong.....I give up......I tried for another hour......HELP!! Me laughing.....settle down kid I will come over and fix it...... Im off to bed......... Next morning im in the bathroom shaving.........gf comes in and I tell her I gotta run to kids house after work and the problem. He can not get computer to boot into safe mode with f8.......It just makes no sense, what could be the problem.......... GF asks.........is he hitting both keys at the same time?? Now ever have a dog look at you and tilt its head like he is trying to understand you........thats what I did....... After a few seconds I just started laughing....I assured her I was not laughing at her or my kid......I was laughing at myself I am such a dork!!! Call my son back........ Son tell old dad where the f8 key is please.... Well duh dad........the f is between the d and the g and the 8 is on the number pad I just laughed and said son......f8 is a single key at the top of the keyboard.......he pauses for a second (looking for that f8 button) Ohhhhhhhhhh that key......then he tore me a new one for not explaing it better. What can I say........he was right.....I was wrong..........i will take my butt chewing.......... Next time I think I will just make a road trip and see my kid and leave the telephone tech support to somone who is better at it than me.........I feel stupid..........

After some updates, xp now has 2 admin accounts instead of one. No I am not sure which update did it. No its not my computer. Tried safe mode, tried user controlpasswords2. For the life of me I just can not get that new admin accout to delte. So any ideas?

Will say not to many people from america torrent much of anything. They may bring it down but putting it up is a bad idea if you reside in america. Ok with vista its really easy. Here is a easy to follow guide. partition vista . If there is something you don't understand let me know. You may want to consider getting yourself another harddrive. The one you have is pretty small.

How many harddrives do you have? What operating system do you have. There are several ways to go about it. There are 3rd party programs, I like "partion magic". You can do it through xp as well. Through xp may be a bit complicated. I am not sure of your skill level and how confortable you are tackling this task. So lets start with the basics. Let me know how many harddrives you have, what operating system you have, How big are your hardrives.
