While I am NO expert on this matter, Let me offer you my 2 cents. Cable Internet has been over selling for a long time. You share your connection with other users, How many I am not sure. There is only so much bandwidth you and your fellow users can have. They keep upping the speeds without the ability or the actual bandwidth to allow everyone on that same connection to have that much speed. Kinda like the auto bon in Germany. Sure everyone can go as fast as they want. Problem is, So many people are on that road, its impossible to go as fast as you want.

How big would a "server" be?? Use small words, While I get computers, the rest I am pretty clueless on. You said advertising helps pay for it all. With most browsers now using "ad blockers" how can advertising even be viable?

This is a completely silly question. How do they store ALL that video you find on youtube?? How can they offer all that content for free?? I mean they have to have a TON of band width usage??

I am sure you know, there are ways to play a game without the "play" disk. May be considered by some as "iffy". IMHO, if you payed for the game, you should be able to play without the "play disk". OMG, manhunt is soooooooo much fun. Its a sick and twisted game of hide and go seek. You hide lots, and sneak up on the bad guys, and kill them from behind. You gotta do it quiet. Its all about stealth. Sure you check out youtube for game play, lol. Now if if you like "adult" games. I mean the kind you DON'T wanna play with kids around, or even let the kids have access to that computer, to keep them from finding it, I will shoot you a P.M with a LOL kind game.

Well Mud, About your issue with the 3 disk Doom Install. I never install from multiple disks. One of my Fav games is Man Hunt, Yea, its old and graphics are pretty bad, Still enjoy playing it. I simply took each disk, Loaded it, Opened it, Took all the files and Put into the same folder, Then I put that folder on a external drive. Now if I wanna install ManHunt, Take that folder, Put on my desktop, Hit the install button. Works like a charm. Yea, with updates, you for sure have to check your settings, I have mine set to never check, then check updates once every two or three weeks, Or set it to Notify but do not install updates. Microsoft LOVES the reboot. I HOPE you did not take this post as a flame, or insult. Not my intention Sir. Just saying with Windows, Yea, can be a pain, but there are easy ways around most hassles.

I blame Windows 7. For many years Microsoft was about the only game in town. We fought with Xp, Cried with Vista, and needed a smoke after Playing with Windows 7. Sure Windows 7 May be the Fat Chick of the Computing World now, But darn it, She does a Fine Job of taking care of our needs without lots of hassle. We waited so Long for Windows 7, We are afraid to try something new, I mean really, Look at what we had to go through just to get TO windows 7. Now we are ready for a Smoke, and A Nice Nap, We will think about switching later. Oh we did hear Of windows 8, but when No one is even stealing it, We just find it better to stay with Windows 7.

The only thing Keeping me from getting away from windows is I am such a big pc gamer. Oh Did find out what the deal was with People not stealing Windows 8. I guess it is impossible to install offline, While it is installed, it phones home to Microsoft. I myself have not played with dodgy copies of Windows since Windows XP. All my copies of Windows 7 is legit. While the upgrade is cheep, No thanks. Now if they learn there lesson, and go back to the classic desktop, Windows 9 may be a option. If not, Windows 7 Stays. As far as my Gaming, I simply am NOT a fan of Consoles, not sure why, just not my thing. Did find out some really useful information. There already ways to make windows 8 into a windows 7 clone. Can be done for free. Its called "classic Shell" http://classicshell.sourceforge.net/ Windows 7 Support will not end til 2020. You will still get all the security updates. 2015 they stop offering driver updates for windows 7 through "windows update" Which is a easy work around by using "driver Pack solution" which is free, and I have used it, Works great. Simply scans your computer and lets you update drivers as needed.

Up to this point. No you can not boot into the classic desktop screen. No start button. That is what baffled me the most. They wanna throw Metro into the mix, and not give users the option to either have metro or the Classic Desk Top look. I myself don't want a smart phone on my desktop. I would think either Microsoft or some hacker will fix that issue. Give us the Classic look again. I am staying with windows 7. Even when the updates stop. I got a feeling, Microsoft will continue the updates when the realize just how many Stayed with Windows 7 and Ignored Windows 8. They did the same thing with Xp when Vista failed so bad. Ok. I am done whining like a little girl.

You would think, if they are gonna make such a BIG change to windows, they would somehow get a feel for what the pc users thoughts on the new idea. I guess no one every told them, if something is not broke (windows 7) Dont fix it (Metro).There line of thought just baffles me, Its like they are working for apple, or have hard feeling against the company and are doing there best to sink the ship. Whats even more funny, When Microsoft puts out a new Operating system, people just HAVE to have it. The torrents and links and requests are just done by countless poor people. Just dont see that with windows 8. Sure people are stealing it, just not NEAR the volume that was seen with previous Operating Systems. So in short, its so bad, people are not even stealing it.

My guess, nothing he can do. He is no longer running the show. Maybe he is a bit thankful he got out when he saw the writing on the wall with the Ipad and Iphone. I think Gates is a very smart guy and saw this coming sometime ago, I can't imagine him going the same direction as they did with windows 8.

I am not real sure there is much hope for Microsoft. Even IF Gates were to make a return. People want portable, and that is just what Jobs gave them. Now its up to Apple to keep a hold of the ball. There are many companies that are playing catch up. IMHO, Think people are just sick of Microsoft. For to long they were the only game in town. Unless you went with a apple computer which was too expensive for most. Once again, Microsoft was caught asleep at the wheel. They waited WAY to long to get into the tablet market. I also think people are just sick of Microsoft and ready for a change,

Is anyone really shocked at this news?? Imho, If Microsoft would of offered the user a choice, Boot into metro, or Boot into Standard Desktop, and Do you want to use this as your default boot choice?? Windows 8 Would of stood a better chance at making it. Think most will just stay with windows 7. Windows 8 offers nothing to make someone upgrade, but takes New Windows 8 and Makes it more confusing to use. Check out youtube of people trying to figure out how to use it. My attitude, If I wanted a Ipad on my desktop, why keep the desktop. Touch screen, Really?? Have not even seen a touch screen pc monitor. What was Microsoft Thinking??? They could give the Ipad a Run for the Money?? Not a chance.

My biggest thing, is working 3rd shift. On nights I have off, I still keep 3rd shift hours, but not much to do. Maybe putting up this thread kinda woke me up. Find myself not gaming as much, Gonna get rid of the New call of duty for now, Will pick it up later, I have the disks. Started Reading more. LOVE to read. Just really slowed down. Still love my Guild wars, But slowing down game play there as well. I guess the first step in fixing a problem, is admitting the problem is there. Grim Dawn Just looks so freaking good. If it gets great reviews and things fall into place, Oh Yea, Im on it. Far Cry 3 is taking the open world kinda play. Think I am gonna have to re adjust my game play ideas, Put Guild wars two on the back burner, Get through the new call of duty, THEN get through far cry 3. Let play Guild Wars 2 Between Beating Far Cry 3 and Grim Dawn release. I knew it was getting bad when the GF wanted to spend some "quality time" together, I said sure, Just let me finish this level, 2 hours later, I finish, and she is asleep. Oh man.

So I went and became hooked on Guild wars 2. Oh the hours I have wasted on that game. The new call of duty came out, Got it, still playing it from time to time. Still have a LONG way to go. Now the New Far Cry 3 is coming out in december, and a Start Up Company is gonna release the game "Grim Dawn" in August I think. That game just looks all kinds of good. Its gonna take me a year or two to get through the recent releases, God Please NO MORE NEW GAMES!!! Killing me, lol. Man I am gonna have NO life, well don't have much of one now.

Well that will teach me!!! Guess what happened to me? Yep my backup tried to fail. So much for posting in this thread, lol. Had to get inventive, Deleted the partition, formatted it, Then my backup worked fine. Kept saying the backup was to big for the partition. I did a backup of Just Windows with Updates, so Now I have two, One with the current state of my puter, One that is Just windows, Will say, Re installing Windows is not that big of deal, Took a hour and a half tops. Just thankful I have a current copy of Hirens, It has all kinds of useful free software, I used the Segate Disk Wizzard to Delete and Format the Partion, So Fresh install of Windows was truly a Fresh Install

I always like to keep my stuff burned to DVD. I also Like to keep the right software "Just in case" a restore Goes bad. Lets be honest with windows......It happens...... One thing I always keep around Is "Driver Solution Pack". Its free. What it does is scan your computer and finds drivers you may be missing. While I do have all my drivers for my motherboard on disk, When I recently had to restore windows I simply had a horrid time getting the sound to work. Ran Driver Solution Pack, Found the missing driver, Worked fine. As far as using the Update the current drivers, thats a personal Choice, My motto, If its not broke, dont fix it. Another program I use is called "Install Creator". Again Its free. Find the Location of the settings for your Fav Browser, Or music player, Normally, its un the C drive, User..User name, Roaming. Once I find the path, I simply use the "install Creator" wizzard, Back up and restore to the same path. Makes a Simple little EXE file, so you click on it and your settings are restored. What I do, Is test it, Make sure it works, Back it up, Add a couple of silly bookmarks, then hit the restore exe I made, The silly book marks should be gone. I keep all my browser, and Winamp Play lists backed up using "install creator" Keep it burned to disk. Hope others have some useful free software they use to restore windows. IMHO, Like with "Driver Solution Pack". Keep it on disk, Only use it with a Fresh Install of Windows, and Only use it if something is not working. Using it to Update current drivers is not a good Idea, Only use it if something is not working and you can not figure it out. You were warned.

One thing I can never stress enough. Keep your Important stuff backed up to DVD. No matter what software you use, It is possible restoring your computer can fail. Odds are slim, but sadly it happens, Not only do i keep my important files backed up, I keep the settings for my browsers backed up. You will also find, when someone finds software that Not only works well, but has never failed the user, they are pretty sure it will never fail, and I am just as guilty as others. I only use shadow protect. Never failed me, Won't use anything else. BUT....... It can fail, just any other software, so cover your bottom, keep it burned to disk, Maybe even double your protection with a external hard drive, thats what I do, Keep it burned, keep it on external,

Oh WOW!!!!!!!!! What the heck did I get!!! Update, SOMETHING kept reinfecting my computer. It simply would be fine for awhile, then BAM!! I have no access to my external harddrive, No access to my Slave drive. It would show on my computer, Open the drive, Two small short cut files, Try to click on the one that says "show usb files", Says "winlogon.exe can not find specified drive. Heck of it is, I could access my external on the Laptop, Refuse to Move anything from the external, It could be infected. I google the heck out of it, I know "winlogon.exe" is either infected, or bad.. So I cry a bit, scream FING WINDOWS!!!! i format the slave, the external and C drive, Start over!! So I spend HOURS puting everything back. Oh, I reinstall windows 7, everythings cool, Sound won't work!! COME ON!! All my motherboard drivers are inistalled, Ran across a free program called "driver pack solution". Big file, Gotta torrent it. Try it,, Impressed with that program. Found the missing drivers, installed, reboot. SOUND WORKS!! Thank goodness I keep the important stuff backed up to disk, Formatting the C drive was a trick, had to use Hirens, Now, If I EVER have to do that again, It will go much faster, Have Dvier Pack Souluton, have Hirens, What I think happend, Got that nasty, While Removing the Virus, It messed up winlogon.exe. Maybe even another windows 7 file, I have a tiny usb external, My backup image will be kept on that JUST IN CASE, Sorry NO WAY!! Am I going back to any Maxthon web site, Could of been any of the skins I tried, There are only 3 pages of them, I am willing to bet the Skin is gone, The Flameers swore it was not there skin, bet someone found it and got rid of it. I posted the issue in there forums, got flamed BAD, Wanna gess what I said back?? Involved the F bomb and few other choice insults, bet I got banned LOL!!

Yea, It was a big time browser hijack. Comptuer would start, every browser, when you opend it up, said I had to pay 200 bucks to get rid of it because of a illegal software install. I have had my share of bad ones, this one was HORRID!! Did something to the registry so I could not modify it, Hi Jack this could not get rid of it. Not even in safe mode. Download house call on the laptop, Put it on my computer, It updated fine, Found it, had to restart the computer, Issue all gone. Tried to warn the people at maxthon, Just got flamed, So I just see ya.. I know anti virus is like browsers, every release either it gets better or worse, So far, House call did the trick. Computer is all backed up and up to date, man I gotta give Linux another shot.

So I got a NASTY NASTY virus. I ran spybot, avast, trojan scanner, Hijack this, I tried them all, threw everything but the kitchen sink at it. Oh they found the problem, could not fix it. Saw a post about micro trend housecall. Well its free, So its my last shot before a complete reinstall. Scan took 4 min, Found all the problems, Deleted them, Scanned a couple more times, the problem stayed gone. What really really made me mad, I was being a good boy, I was trying maxthon browser, So I am installing a few skins trying them out.........Last one I installed. BAMMMMMMMMM.......Locked out of my computer, wanted 200 bucks to fix it. CRAP!! Start in safe mode, Run all the anti virus I had, Nothing. CRAP!! They found it, Could not get rid of it. House call was the answer.... OOPS.....Forgot,. Yes I had a backup image.....Just knew if I restored the image the nasty would stay. I was gonna format the partition and reinstall windows.

Myself, Have always used "shadow protect". Odd thing, you can request a full evaluation of the program, Which I got no problem. Burn it to C.D. Now AFTER the 30 day trial, well you really should throw away the C.D. and never use it again. It would be wrong to keep it and continue to use it after the 30 day trial. Cause its the full evaluation, and its on C.D,.someone with no morals could use it as long as they so desired................Just saying. Have used this program for over a year, Saved my behind Countless times, Takes under 10 min to back up the hard drive, and restore it. I have a Solid state drive takes, 4 Min to back up a 28 gig file, 5 min to restore it.

You can sure tell looking at forums like this, that windows 7, is one thing microsoft did right.. Well behaved, and Not to many problems. not like Xp used to be. I sure don't miss windows XP. Man the hours I spent fixing that thing for myself and others. Now, People have issues, I tell them Install widows 7, call it a day. As well, I guess I am not the net tweeek freak I once was. Conections are so fast, tweaking Windows 7 is not gonna improve your speeds that much. So, I don't do it anymore. I keep my system clean, backed up, and worst comes to worst, I will reinstall windows 7, Does not take that long, not that big of deal. I have 3 Legit copies of Windows 7, and Will NOT be going with windows 8. No desire to have a Ipone on my desk top. Im old and stuck in my ways.

Sweet thing about Guild Wars 2, NO monthly fee!! Yea its REALLY taken to much of my time of late. O well, I THIS close to being the top level of 80!! I got in with a group that fought a level 80 dragon while I was a level 65 at the time. WOW!!! It was a HUGE fight. Took about a hour to kill it. True story half way through the fight. I really really had to go pee. So I let myself die, everyone kept reviving me. I was laughing, Screaming at my screen to stop saving me. GF got such a laugh.Well its off to the fights again for me. About ready to hit the level 80 Island. This should be fun.

Yea have not been around much myself. Nice to see some of the old posters again. Fell in love with Guild Wars 2, So most my free time goes there or Reading. Sorry about your divorce, been there done that. Not easy, Does get better.
