  1. Word has it Yahoo is going to 1Gb [or more] some day real soon. No need for geemail in my book. . .
  2. Signal Quality is back down in the low to mid 7's :
  3. OK, So do you really have the network set up? If so, Click on "My Network Places" on the Desktop, then select "View Workgroup Computers" and see what happens. If the names of the other computers appear in a list [might take a few seconds], you should be able to click on the name of each computer and access it's files. That is IF you set any of the files for "Sharing" You should also be able to get to them via "Windows Explorer", then scroll down to "My Network Places" on the left column. .
  4. So did they kick the signal strength up as a result of all the repointing and re-tweaking? Or is it atmospheric? ..
  5. Vern [and others], have you noticed a change in signal quality on Mission Control? I normally get between 7.0 and 7.8 but for the last days or so, this is what I've been seeing: .
  6. Yep, heard Voom is vapored, possibly bought out by Dish, not sure I'm wondering if Uncle Charlie is planning on moving to buy out WB after they launch and get started with a small customer base. .
  7. WB will have the same problems as Voom; trying to compete in an existing market as an unknown startup. It will take several thousand subscribers within the first few months to make them viable. They have also have numerous delays; I first saw their site over a year ago and it seems they were claiming to be ready to start in early 2004. Last I looked, they were looking at FQ 2005, which has come and gone, now I hear mid 2005. I'm beginning to have doubts as to how serious a contender they will be. And their pricing isn't that great. .
  8. Have you tried SpyBot Search & Destroy? http://www.safer-networking.org Also download and run AVG 7. http://www.grisoft.com Both are FREE!!! Also try House Call, a free on-line scanner from: http://www.trendmicro.com .
  9. "somethings eating my ram........." Ewe better get that checked .
  10. I guess you can decide for yourselves: From Secunia.com IE 30% of Vulnerabilities remain unpatched 41% of reported vulnerabilities were "Highly" or "Extremely" critical. http://secunia.com/product/11/ FF 36% of Vulnerabilities remain unpatched 7% of reported vulnerabilities were "Highly" or "Extremely" critical. http://secunia.com/product/4227/ Opera 0% of Vulnerabilities remain unpatched 12% of reported vulnerabilities were "Highly" or "Extremely" critical. http://secunia.com/product/761/ .
  11. . Don't know who this 'Vick' guy is and don't care. Don't normally get into these conversations either, but...... If he [or you] have a communicable disease, especially an STS, there is a legal obligation to inform anyone you come in contact with in any situation where you may pass it on. If that information is not passed on, you can be criminally liable as well as civilly. There has been more than one person convicted and imprisoned for passing HIV to an uninformed partner. I believe there are also some convictions for passing Hepatitis.. Charges can range from Wanton Endangerment to Homicide. Does the partner bear some responsibility? Depends on the circumstances. Generally yes, but to a much lesser degree. .
  12. Vern, Uncle Charlie has been saying that for at least 3 years that I know of. Back when Dish and SB had a cooperative agreement and were co-selling each others' services, there was talk of them merging. Then the honeymoon fell apart, the divorce dragged on [the combined SB/Dish 500 LNB is still available], and Charlie 'chatted' about it a few times, 'coming soon' he kept saying. In fact that's why I waited so long to go SB, I was waiting to see what Dish was going to do, if anything. They seem to be more focused on ESPN, HDTV and 'Locals" than anything else. If they do make a move, I don't know if they'll buy SB or start fresh. Who knows, maybe WB will be for sale by then. .
  13. The only difference between the Free and Paid versions is that the Ad Banner is removed in the paid version. There is no functional difference. First off, IE and Maxthon are the same thing. Maxthon is nothing more than an elaborate skin for IE, it is NOT a separate browser. Second, Netscape is AOL Third, Opera strives to be standards compliant, something M$ could care less about. M$ wants the world to code to their standards. FrontPage is an example of that; it inserts loads of code that is essentially useless and will cause websites built with it to function improperly when viewed with other browsers. I see the same thing as the screen shots above, but I figure someday the webmaster for this site will fix the coding so that it works properly for all. It should be nothing more than a simple table tag adjustment. Both True. Part 1 is False. Part 2 is True. Netscape was originally written by the folks who broke of and formed Mozilla. They then stoopped working on Netscape and focused their efforts on Mozilla and Thunderbird. FireFox started out to be the browser component of Mozilla, but has since evolved into a separate entity. Netscape was bought by AOL and all futher updates changes are written by AOL.
  14. When they installed ours, they put in a Netopia Gateway/Router for security purposes.. .
  15. In my opinion, there are only 2 browsers; Opera and Mozilla/FF To me IE doesn't even exist unless I have to go to an M$ Windows site . Secunia can't even keep up with the security exploits in it and M$ does very little to repair or prevent those exploits. Yes they do updates, but not fast enough to prevent damage, and they won't even acknowledge many of them, let alone fix them. I have IE disabled for the most part, I have to remove the blocks to go to Windows.com Maxthon and the various other IE skins might make it prettier, but they do not make it safer since ActiveX is still there. You CAN pay for Opera, you do NOT have to. The unpaid version has a small ad window which I have blocked. I haven't used FF, so I can't comment on it, but I have used Mozilla extensively and Netscape before AOL got it's claws into it.. So between the 2 [Opera and Mozilla], I use Opera about 80% of the time.. Safer? Hard to say. Secunia reports many less exploits for it, but that could be simply because it isn't in wide enough use for the human garbage [ie;hackers] to go after it.. .
  16. Guess I missed something, not sure what though.... He sent me a link to EQ, but I never found much of interest there, certainly nothing 'personal'. Seemed like he and the guy in MI were talking to each other, never really saw too many others post. Oh Well. Does this have anything to do with why the FAP monitor thread was removed? Did he request it be removed? ..
  17. I don't see any pricing info anywhere. I can understand not posting it here, could be tacky, but it should be listed on the download page or the info page. I won't download a trial package of any software unless I know the full cost involved. .
  18. Yeah, I wasn't too impressed with their pricing. Seems like they're targeting businesses and not residential. Is there a section on here anywhere yet for WildBlue? . .
  19. I just modified the previous post while you were posting. All of the tests I posted today were from the same PC, same host, same ISP, just a few minutes apart. .
  20. . To be truthful, I have no idea which test are more accurate than others. I've only been on this thing for a week or two and am still learning.
  21. Here's a screen shot of another test I just did, hope it doesn't break the board .
  22. Who Me 360; running WinXPHome, connected via LAN/RJ45 x-over
  23. At work now, not at home. Leave a website you want me to test at and I'll try it when I get home later. I did a couple from here: http://www.dslreports.com/tools but wasn't logged in so they weren't recorded.
  24. I don't Would you like me to post a pic of the dish and/or the modem? Why did I get a bill in the mail from SB? Why can I log into the SB "My Account" webpage? Joe Average Consumer. .
  25. Well, somehow I put my speed tests in the wrong thread, and I don't see a way to delete a post, so I'll just move them... .
