  1. Hmm...doesn't look there always that speed?

    I have access to Charter cable here along with Direcway. At our other location I have SBC DSL and Charter cable. The speeds drop off during peak times on all my ISP providers. As the number of subscribers to any ISP increases traffic will be backed up.

    A satellite connection in a remote area is worth to me many more times than I'm paying. Sat telephones are typically $300 a month or more and at peak times they back up also. Individual government sat connections are all more expensive per month more than Direcway. If you want an ISP in an area where nothing else is available be prepared to pay the price. If not, don't sign the DW contract and if you do sign common sense warns you to read it carefully.

  2. Mega bucks business plan. 2 locations with a 1 meter dish. 4000 and 6000 and some of those were uncapped. Here's the 6000 a few minutes ago. I always try to use the 2992 size test here. Some of my "average" on testmy.net were using dialup for a comparison so that's why the average is down.

    I'm using a Mac UNIX system..

  3. 276 up ? your talking connection speed, and that is not even right, dont tell me your using DWAYS website to get this information right?

    let me show you something....

    DirecWays website....

    snip

    Lets see yours! run the same test results.

    Ohh, are you on a residential plan or business?

    One more thing, dway tech support sends me here to get speed tests, they dont even use there own test site, make you wonder why huh???

    Hi Sparks,

    Wouldn't it be a good idea to check my stats and verify WHERE they come from before making blind allegations? Blinded by hate for DirecWay is usually

  4. What surprises me is all the people who complain about the DirecWay service in all aspects have nothing to say about a newbie rolling in here posting crap like that. I will keep my posts to a minimum and let the newbie spread the tales of Blistering DirecWay Broadband and how lenient and willing the billing dept. just hands out credit for problems days. WTH?

    HUH?  :haha::roll:

  5. Hello everyone. This is my first time here. I'm having DirecWay installed on Wednesday. I'm just hoping to do better than the 17 kb's I get now. I've suffered through this for 10 years. I really hate the idea of paying so much. Is there any pointers I may need in regards to when they install it.

    Welcome to the forum ickyvicky,

    The main thing when they install is that the dish and cable (with a cable block) gets grounded well. Static is one of the worst enemies on a DW setup. Don't let the installer leave until you get a good ground! Most of the installers are good but occasionally you get a bad one. Also the dish needs to be mounted securely with NO movement and a clear path to the satellite. IE; trees, lines. And of course, the best possible signal..

  6. Believe it or not this is dialup at speakeasy on the West coast. My system does a pretty good of fooling the upload with Sun Java.

    2005-05-01 16:35:56 EST: 35 / 163

    Your download speed : 36692 bps, or 35 Kbps.

    A 4.4 KB/sec transfer rate.

    Your upload speed is much faster than down.. have you tweaked?

    Your upload speed : 167364 bps, or 163 Kbps.

    This is the same test site using Direcway. As you can see speakeasy is not Sun Java savvy..

    2005-05-01 17:08:23 EST: 735 / 418

    Your download speed : 753386 bps, or 735 kbps.

    A 91.9 KB/sec transfer rate.

    Your upload speed : 428724 bps, or 418 kbps.

    And a true result on Direcway using testmy.net.. ;)

  8. Satellite internet is still experimental at best. The funniest thing for me is when I see people bash DW and promise Wild Blue will be better. I know how the testing has proved out for WB. I know how the testing has gone for DW. Unless something changes, right now there is no race...

    We're all here on DW because we have no other choice, period. Before DW I had a telephone connection leased into the next county for $85 bucks per month, and AOL dialup for another $24 month, total of $109 for dialup! Charter has finally arrived here but at the end of a 10 mile line it's not much better than dialup. :roll:

    I figure I

  9. The only other thing could be the way java tests report it. Im guessing the DirecWay testing is also java?

    That's exactly right. The Java batch reaction will skew the results up higher by a lot on test sites that are not set up for Java. If you have a dialup backup, which most of us do with DW,

  10. Right now everything is backed up. My download which is usually 2mb is down to 558, barely tops my upload. :?
