  1. uTorrent is pretty new and already works great, however a few bugs do pop up from time to time, maybe most of these will be worked out soon. I keep the blue frog around just in case utorrent craps out unexpectedly.
  2. Exactly how much legal stuff is out there in BitTorrent swarms, other than a few open source distros?
  3. Considering the MUCH smaller footprint you must have a very powerful machine in order to not notice the difference.
  4. Q: What Are The Best Features Of Windows Next Operating System? (Vista) A: For the industry to make out like bandits when people have to upgrade to monster sized machines. Since WinXP has had such a relatively long lifespan there are many people still running 4 and 5 year old machines, something had to be done to wake the PC market back up.
  5. I have used Azurues, Bitcomet, BitTornado and even the original clunky BitTorrent Client. Azurues was my favorite until the other day, then I discovered
  6. PeerGuardian 2 actively maintains block lists of IP addresses associated with Government and P2P groups as well as IPs associated with spyware/malware. It may fail one day to block the bullet that gets you but it is better than running naked. A little prevention cant hurt.
  7. Unless his system speaker is not connected properly, I have seen this many times, makes diagnosis difficult.
  8. COOL! One of the laptop precursors. Good ol TI 99/4A, used to spend days coding simple pictures and music notes on them (had 2-used). Damn are we old or what?
  9. Test onitor on another PC. Test Video Card in another PC. Then test other parts back and forth. Finally, give up, shoot it, tie a rope on it and use it for an anchor on a small fishing boat.
  10. I have played with a couple of old Texas Instruments and even a few old Apples (school in the 80s). But this is about PCs. After attending computer classes in 1999 I built the following machine. AMD K6III 400MHz (OCed to 500, K6IIIs are TOUGH and FAST, benchmarked higher than an 800MHz Pentium III) Aopen AX59Pro MoBo (rock solid) 64MB PC100 SDRAM (shortly updated to 128MB and then 256MB, RAM was expensive in '99) 10GB Fujitsi ATA66 Hard Drive (still use it for small backups, going strong, too bad Fujitsu is now defunct) Nvidia TNT2 M64 8MB AGP (operational but currently in drawer) Aureal Vortex 2 Sound (still in use) 15inch CRT monitor (had to be replaced 6 months later) Bootleg copy of Windows 98 (first edition) Lots of bootleg software ----------------------------- My friends dad still runs the MoBo and CPU till this day to bootleg Karoke disks (blah).
  11. I am currently running an elderly 1GHz AMD Athlon Thunderbird with 768MB of PC133 RAM. Azureus and its parent javaw.exe both together don't use more than 30Megs of RAM and 7% CPU. Maybe it runs better on some systems than others? Bittornado is not Java based? I may try it out, nobody ever said you had to use only 1 client.
  12. Dude, I am running on an old 1GHz Athlon Thunderbird right now, Azureus and its parent program javaw.exe are using about 25Megs of RAM and 8% CPU. I am downloading 5 torrents at once at about 1.4Mbits down total. How much of a resource hog is that?
  13. I have always recommended Azureus, guess my recommendation wasn't wrong.
  14. Azureus is fairly good, but it doesn't have all the advanced options of Bitcomet, but that makes it quick to learn. Additionally it requires the Java Virtual Machine package to be installed, this cause some problems on some machines in the past but it is a lot better with the newer versions.
  15. Sounds like your ISP is oversubbed like mine (TDS.Net Zip 37385). I have a 3000/512 DSL line, most of the time it has a usable speed of 2000/300 and can even drop to 1000/150. At about 3am on a weeknight I get the full speed, most of the neghbors are sleeping. They have got too many people on the outgoing line from your Telco in order to have a stable full speed connection for the average number of users that are online at any given time. In other words, they have sold of something more than they have to hand to the customers who bought it. Many Telcos do this.
  16. Thats about the speeds I get out of my TDS.net 3MB DSL account, they suck, but they have this place locked down since they also own the only TelCo. I pay $46.95/mo after my discount.
  17. ...bumping this... I want to know of other bugs in the new relese.
  18. Actually, on eBay, in the My eBay page the little dropdown boxes at the end of your buying/selling items (mark as paid, mark as shipped, leave feedback...etc...) do not work with FF1.5. I "downgraded" back to 1.0.7 and they worked fine. I found the Beta to be buggy a while back, apparently some of those bugs are still in the "gold" release. I am starting to think that the more compatible FF gets with the web the more like IE it gets. The earlier releases of FF were MUCH faster.
  19. Sounds like Nero is not fully compatible with your DVD burner. The company will probably want you to fork over more dough for an upgrade, but you may be lucky and there may be a free patch for download.
  20. Actually it depends on the brand of router/gateway you are running. My Actiontec uses 192.168.0.1, but I have seen others use it too.
  21. 50KBytes per second would be about 400kbps anyway, close to the 512 cap, whats the problem?
