  3. OH and there is ANOTHER THING - with sat connection the first time you do a speed test here at testmy the page will not change as fast as the speed test - so in other words the speed test starts and then the page changes to the bar page and the test is affected by this change- So the test NOT be accurate the first time you test. It will only read about 4/5ths of the test giving a FALSE reading YOU MUST RUN THE TEST THEN RUN IT AGAIN or you will get a FALSE higher speed reading the first time run - This happens with the DW 6000 + 7000 +the WB - people are pasting 2000 speeds with their DW 7000 and wb when in fast it is an error hence also making the average skewed. Also you really only need to run the large file NOT the largest to let you know if you are having alg problems Here are my TRUE speeds: :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 1553 Kbps about 1.55 Mbps (tested with 1013 kB) Download Speed is:: 190 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net (Server 2) Test Time:: 2006/05/01 - 2:06pm Bottom Line:: 27X faster than 56K 1MB Download in 5.39 sec Tested from a 1013 kB file and took 5.344 seconds to complete Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; .NET CLR 1.0.3705; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; Media Center PC 4.0; .NET CLR 2.0.50727) Diagnosis: 90% + Okay : running at 96.46 % of your hosts average (32.38) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-7KSTGQU9C
  4. Here is some general knoledge from my observation - I have had DW 6000 for a couple years - If i recall it was 600.00 for dish etc, and then 59,99 a month for 15 months - that was the contract - I usually got about 1000 down and anywhere from 7-14kb a sec up. it was pretty consistant when it ran. The problem was I got TCP ed out alot - Often in the afternoons from noon to about 6:00 pm the tcp acceleration would be out- Everything was grounded perfectly but still I fould myself with my thumb on the wire trying to reduce the static and trying to get it to run alot. (you know what i mean if you have one) Also the signal was strongly affected by weather. Rain (light was ok) but medium to heavy it was out also it would go out with storm clouds in the sky (especially of a storm was moving in or off) DW hates storm clouds. Overall when it ran it ran ok but it didnt run alot as well I would guess 10%-15% of the time on any given day the thing didnt work. And at 2.00 a day fee you would like to see those #s at 2 to 5% - or thats how i figured it. Also you can realistically download 164 mb then you are capped off until 4-8 hours (and that is if you dont hit the cap - if you do then you mine as well just go to bed and wait till the next day) Well now I have wildblue. I paid 346.00 total for dish and installation (i think wb still has free installation for another week) But I do have the 1.5 down 256k up package for 79.99 a month BUT also included with this is dial up access # so if for a reason your sat doesnt work you do have a dialup #. What uis nice is that you get 17 gb a month download which is an average of about 600mb a day (but you can use as much as you want when you want) also you get 5000gb up limit - again to use when you want - and every 30 days the amount resets back to zero - So if you want to download a 300 mb file, no problem. DW cant do this - Also it works much much better with weather and clouds. And i find myself with no dead spots during the day and I dont have to "thumb" the stupid cord as the tcp aint out every minute. I get about 1550 down and 216kb up - maybe a little slower at sometimes but generally as advertised. The DW did seem to page surf slightly better from page to page and downloading of Pics etc.. The wildblue doesnt seem to do that quite as well - close, but truthfully I do think the DW was a little better at page surfing also with multiple windows opened DW seemed to do well- Wildblue is better at opening large web pages and is faster at that task. The client to download for the WB is a small 300 program - much like the DW and no problem at all - email works slightly different but about the same etc etc.. So far I am happier with the WB because of the downloads and speedburts - I have seen 600-800 speedburts making a 1 mb file download a 2 sec process - i really like that - it wont show on speedtests but in real world downloads you will see nice speedburts. And MORE often than not you will see 400 speedburts dropping to about 220 - The DW was a pretty consistant 125-130kb a sec so the WB on the pro package is about 2 times the download speed AT MINIMUM - hope this helps you out - Keep looking at the sky. over and out
  5. thanks alot all that seems like that is it - much appreciated!
  6. I have a gt4016 gateway that is suppose to have 1024mb ddr dual channel ram - yet under system it reads 896 mb ram - is this what is suppose to be ? is the ddr dual not read. im a bit confused any help would be appreciated. thanks all
  7. I shut down my computer at night should i press the button on the front of the lcd and shut that off or just leave it on but with the orange light on.. any suggestions to preserve lcd life?
  8. Just to let you know I went yet again 3rd 100 mile trip (yep i live in the sticks) to get my 3rd Gateway lcd screne in hope that this one would be ok and no pixels out - tested it AT THE STORE and it looked good - got it home and .. well.. it still looks good! 3rd time a charm I guess - HOWEVER the manual says that the pixels being out (amount and location on the screne) is normal and the woman at the store said she called and Gateway only guarantees over 100 pixels out - Can you believe that? That cant be true but who knows - anyway looks like im looking good . Thanks all for listening
  9. Is it common for branmd new ones to have pixels that are out - and it isnt exceptable is it - or is it common place and gotta live with it - I mean should i expect the next one , after i return this one, to have one out also? how common is it for a new lcd?
  10. I just got a gateway lcd 19" flat panel - a pixel at the very bottom was out - a bright blue dot - returned it and got another one (from the same place) and now there is another pixel out on the right side (even worse spot than the first one) and it is a green dot?? IS THIS POSSIBLE - is it possible my computer is doing this? It is a brand new gateway computer. Has anyone ever heard of this?
  11. You can check your amount of download and upload through Wildblue by going to their portal and then "help" tab then check the downlaod amounts - it will show you how much you have downed and upped during the month and how much you have left - QUICK QUESTION FOR ANY WILDBLUE USER PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!!! My TX upload light flashes blink...blink... blink at a steady pace even when the comp is sgut down and no uploading is going on. IS THIS NORMAL??!!! please someone let me know thanks all
  12. OK her eit is. I just got Wildblue installed after 2 years of DW (6000) model. My wildblue is pro plan 79.99 a month (includes web space and dialup access) 1st I find the Wildblue to download at approx 40% faster than DW 6000 (which i got a pretty consistant 1000 down) The upload with my wildblue , though better than DW is still not the 256 up as advertised - it is around 114 or so - the download is pretty consistant at 1500-1600 - Here are my questions. Is the TX light on the Wildblue (upload light) suppose to blink at consistant intervals? Mine never seems to stop even with computer shut down. blink........blink........blink etc.. Is this normal ??!! - I have shut off all antivirus etc.. no firewall no router and still it blinks (of course it becomes full light etc when uploading) can anyone tell me if this is normal. Again my upload speeds are a little slow, is this flux pretty normal for Wildblue... Overall though I for the momnet am happy with the download , page browsing is a little less than i expected but not bad - after a few times of the proxy settings detected it picks up so not really a problem. However the downloading of jpg in its own window is slightly slower than DW BUT i love the wildblue speedburts - ive seen as much as 600 in a sec so downloading a 600-900k file takes just a sec sometimes! BUT I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE TX UPLOAD light - please let me know. thanks all
  13. I have had DW and Wildblue i would go with wildblue.
  14. Yes It is important when setting up your email that your username is [email protected] you must use the whole @hughes.net - also they email you a password - you can go to http://hughesnet.myway.com/ then click mail log in with your username and password emailed to you then you can change it once you log in for the first time. Hope this helps
  15. Can't you get speakeasy through the airwaves? Is this what it is or do they also have a cable like company. Do you need them to be on a radio tower near you or what is the deal - info would be cool thanks!

  17. Hi - Your TCP acceleration being out has nothing to do with your fap or the amount you download - it has to do with your transmitter power. Weather can affect this - such as a heavy cloud bank (either at your area or at to noc or both) it can be caused by water then the freezing of the water in your transmitter) etc etc... OR even there are periods during the year you will see your transmitter not working well. (i have a period in december for whatever reason that it doesnt work well for about a week and in the afternoons most of the winter) Weather is the major factor with tcp being down this will result in the system light being down then the transmit light going out in a few minutes after resulting in a tx code 10 - try power cycling and if this doesnt work best thing to do is turn it off and wait - usually clears up after the storm front blows off etc maybe a few hours or couple days. you can get a more powerful watt transmitter but if you are tcp out it is usually a weather or water issue that will clear itself up.
  18. Emachine AMD Sempron 3300+ w/ 17" flat screen and color printer 512mb ddr ram 80 gb hard drive nVidia Geforce 6100 graphic card DVD/CD-rw combo drive and 8-1 media reader - 299.97 at best buy after rebates until feb 11
  19. Sometimes I have a problem with pop access and etc like you - If your tcp status was downgraded then that is why it was not working well - and the reason it was downgraded was because of weather - tcp is downgraded and then out because of weather - high heavy cloud bank is the worst - even worse than fog sleet and rain - high heavy dark clouds will tcp you out everytime. Well glad it is working well now and remember the #1 cure of direcway problems is to just wait it out. (i had a strange transmitter low power problem for 10 days themn it cured itself - so my record is 10 days with something just acting dumb) good luck
  20. First check your cros pol - It SHOULD NEVER FAIL - if it is then that is your speed problem. It should be up in th mid 60's to 70's at least - My signal strength is never above 60 and I run pretty good all the time. HOWEVER , I know this sounds crazy but it is true, Direcway seems to throttle down certain sats at certain times of the year. Anyway check that cros pol that is usually the flux speed problem. And did you have a 6000 before the 7000? And if so where your speeds better then or is the 7000 your first modem.
  21. Here is my speed which is pretty consistant - but again anyone with any reply? :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 1008 Kbps about 1 Mbps (tested with 1013 kB) Download Speed is:: 123 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server2) Test Time:: Wed Dec 21 15:17:03 EST 2005 Bottom Line:: 18X faster than 56K 1MB download in 8.33 sec Diagnosis: Looks Great : 9.57 % faster than the average for host (direcpc.com) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-71D38J4XU
  22. Does anyone have any advice for this weird problem? My transmitter sometimes reads at sometimes a ODU power reading of only 24-42 (needs to be around 70 to work) It was out for nearly 2 weeks and suddenly it came back to life - It has acted out once since then with a power reading (remember this is transmitter power not signal strength) of 24 - but again a few hours it came back to power of 69. Could ice or water in the connections cause this? Usually a transmitter power failure requires a new transmitter but the power seems to go back up after awhile - Does anyone know what this means - Does it mean the begining of the end of the transmitter? I have never heard of a ODU regaining its power after it reads low (TX code 10 or 13) you can check your transmitter power by going to RUN then Command then typing: telnet 192.168.0.1 1953 brining up a window click I for install then just enter through the installer ID options then type E and enter and it will show your power - you can also range from here and other things - also if you dont z to exit it will restart your modem. Any suggestions?
  23. If your cross pol is ok and there seems to be nothing else wrong then nothing is wrong. SOMETIMES (i have had this problem) depending on the time of year you may have a week or two of bad speeds. I'm not sure why but sometimes there is a "window" of time that just seems the ol DW wont work well - My best advice is to just wait it out. But first check that cross pol by going to advanced and checking it - it should pass every time. if it fails then that is your problem - But dont wig out too much - it will clear up and run faster during peak hours in a week or 2 or 3.
  24. Besides all the other problem the reason you were getting the tcp diabled is because of the dish not being grounded. Static build up is the #1 cause of the tcp not working- You still may need to unpug power cable from back of modem then disconnect the bottom wire and hold on to it for 30 sec. Hence grounding your system - You should do this 1 time a month at least or as often as needed. good luck
  25. Just a couple of thoughts and info First Wildblue looks to be a pretty good deal - I have direcway 6000 and run pretty constantly at 1000 down and anywhere to 30-70 up Wildblue looks good at the 79.99 a month because has 22,000 mb a month limit that resets every month if you go over - real nice - that is approx 700 mb a day where as Direcway is 169-350 - eitherway it is alot more and you can realistically use 2000 or 3000 or 10,000 in one day if you wanted. Also comes with 20mb of user space for uploads of photos etc and 4.95 for per additional - 10mb - direcway has 0 also comes with dialup # - so when the weather is bad and sat is out you can still use a dialup also has a 1.5 download and a 256 upload that is 1 1/2 faster than the 6000 download and 4 times faster upload and is $300.00 for equipment vs $600 for direcway - remember this is for the 79.99 a month package vs 59.99 for direcway home package. but you get dialup and the userspace - which runs you about 15.00 a month through a local dialup provider. I wont switch as of now. But i will keep an eye on it over the next year see how people like or dislike it.
