mudmanc4 replied to batravishek's topic in General Discussion
There's many people here that are discussing this same thing right now, right here in this thread , might want to read through there, and talk to them -
whats with my upload speed ?
mudmanc4 replied to cdeez's topic in XFINITY (Comcast Cable Communications)
Can you do another speedtest here, and post it ? Go into "misc tools" menu at the top of each page, and do a trace route to testmy.net. -
Well if it is a gonner, you cant say you didn't put an effort forth. Here's a motherboard for it. But no CPU included, so if in fact that is the bad part ....... Here's the CPU. OR....... maybe those above aren't such a great idea, because chec this out.

What is that supposed to mean ?

uhmm, maybe skip the de pants ting hey :haha: i dont wanna see that , no way...........

I'm stayin outta this one, I will say this, that wouls be one helluva labor pain though, and something to see :haha: The "S"s " and the "T's" might be the most painful part..........

I can't seem to find anything on the keys to make this happen, where did you find out that it was the f4 key ? edit, I found this................... Fn + F3, Fn + F5, Fn + F8, or Fn + F9 is pressed to switch between alternate displays. So if your laptop was Fn + F3, pressing and holding both Fn and F3 at the same time would switch between displays.

Good deal Might as well have a better look around here , see what else you can get into now :haha:

Horribly slow download and surfing speeds!
mudmanc4 replied to CGoodpaster's topic in Make it Faster...
Thats the thing with vista, I guess the tcp blah blah << i say that alot now , dunno, whatever, the TCP and other values that control rwin ect are dynamic, they supposedly adjust on the fly for the best settings :/ -
Could be the video card then that crapped out. Which might be replaceable ! Nope, just checked, it's integrated. Take the HDD out and boot to the UBCD Well if you have meter, then check it, see if it's sending what it should be .....

Horribly slow download and surfing speeds!
mudmanc4 replied to CGoodpaster's topic in Make it Faster...
I see, she has a VPN set up in there, so she can access the servers from home. Like you said, unless your familiar w/ how to tunnel a secured sever connection, and know her server settings and passwords, thats not such a good idea to reset You could connect to a wired port to see the settings, but you would still need to know the password. So what we have left is the slow speeds, have you tried the vista tcp registry setting we have here ? There prety good, and many people ahve seen significant increases in there speeds by using it, it's located here >>>>>>> http://www.testmy.net/t-18907.msg214387#msg214387 If you have any issues with the instructions, no problem , post up Make sure to restart the machine afterwards to make sure the settings are saved properly. -
Well the router, or if none, then the modem has whats called DHCP server , that leases IP addresses to the machines that connect, each time that you turn the machine on, it gets leased an IP , or an address so the data knows where to to. This can be set to what is called static, the IP never changes, it's set in the router, and in the machine. It's not really practical unless your running a server of some kind off the machine. Other then you can then change other settings to clear up the available bandwidth on the network. It doesn't really make that much difference to be honest, other then the security issues of netbios, which can be argued till daylight. In my case, I like to have as much control over what moves through the network as possible. If your close to what speed you should be getting, and your not having any issues, unless you want to get a bit deeper involvement, then it's probably not for you, it is entirely not necessary.

Well maybe they installed drivers for the card (s) that simply work, but arent really the optimal ones. So you can connect through the router for internet access, but you can't connect to the routers GUI, right ? -
I like to see whats going on around me. No big deal really. I think with me, it's more the fact that I can do it, more so then why Just more "stuff" to play with.

So what did you take it in for to begin with ? -
Might be the PS. W/O me reading this whole thread again, lol, Iv'e had my hands in too many different things in the last 24 hours, some things got shoved outta my memory, so it freezes up with, or without the hard drive in it, it freezes if you try to boot to a cd, you cant boot to anything whatso ever. You cant get into safe mode, all of this, right ? If this is the case, then I'm going to say the CPU crapped itself.
-
Well thats a start. How many machines / network printers voip blah blah do you have running on your network ? Because you could do static and get rid of the net bois traffic as well, if it applies. Either way, Personally I set everything as static, makes just that much difference.

Well I know cox has some pretty fast connections, so if your paying for the highest they have , then yes, you have a real issue. But at the same token, not all packages are available in all area's . *shrugs* For now, skip thinking about that wireless router, just for a minute, yea, i will limit the download capacity, but Iv'e gotten 20000 mbps on my wireless router, so you see you have to understand the math of it. Anyhow , so your on vista, there is a cablenut "tweak" for vista. The link is as follows, just do what it says, it's very self explanatory, though if you get stuck, just post it. http://www.testmy.net/t-18907.msg214387#msg214387 I see that in the first line of instructions, he missed telling someone that may not know, that you must goto "start>run>cmd> then type in what he says.

So it the slow download on all sites , do you ever get decent download ? What speed should you feel you be getting, in other words, do you know what bandwidth your paying for ? There's a great registry editor (don't let that scare you , it's really easy gui) << graphical user interface , you'll be ok with it. The program name is "cablenut" . So you'll have to post what operating system your using. As well as the above mentioned information. One you have that info, then someone will direct you to the proper settings. So no worries, there's a bunch of generous mouths here to get the most out of your system, and connection.

Yo zalternate, ever come up with anything ? I ask because I have cams here and there also, and my controller/ converter went out And it was a trade a while back for some work. The cams are cheap BW night vision with sound, they work super good and there's no reason not to continue to use them. They all have RCA jacks, there powered. I have a decent DVR with 160 gb drive, and a dvd+rw inside that I used to record when I was gone that I can still use, but Id'e rather just do it the way you were suggesting. I found a pci cards for this, is this the way your doing it ? And what software did you end up with ? Find anything open source ? I don't mind setting a system aside specifically for this.

So I was checking one of my servers stats for general BS and I noticed views from something I'de never seen before, after a quick google search I found it was a Russian search engine , here's the wiki, the rest I didn't feel like translating. yandex.ru. Just wondering if anyone else has come across this, unless I never noticed them before, or they just implemented spiders , who knows, your thoughts ?

Here's a perfect example of what causes heat issues within laptops. This is a Dell inspiron D810 blah blah whatever. They had the machine plugged in, and charging , while on the CARPET , they crashed out for the night and left it to roast there, since the cool air intakes are on the bottom of the case, you guessed it. And the pic shows just how bad they can get. So when you spray air into the outlets, all your doing is pushing that junk back into the machine, not only to be charged somewhat statically, but to be later slurped back into the heatpipe radiator. Small pic, i forgot to set the camera bigger, and I already used the mini vac to get rid of the stuff. Press cntrl , and scroll wheel to get a bit closer edit~ if anyone says "look, he's got the thing setting on the cpu omg " well, thats the old one
