  1. I just got it in today, seems the owner did nothing more then leave the laptop plugged in all night, but left it on the floor, off, but charging. The battery has a full charge, and the power supply tests ok. But the power button does nothing, no matter what i do, I can't get the thing to do anything. If it were on, and charging, i would say that on the floor, it overheated, but unless there fibbin to me, and knowing them and doing business with them regular, I don't think there not telling the truth. No reason for that anyhow. So I searched for some type of reset on these things incase they got an overcharge, or whatever. Nothing. Anyone ? Latitude D810
  2. Well there's no sence in just going out and spending money , if you haven't found the issue, the new card isn't necessarily going to do anything more then this one. When I cannot seem to locate an issue with a device, I'll make sure I have a driver on hand for the device, wether it's in the form of a file on the drive, or better yet, on a disk, ready to go, then I will go into device manager, and uninstall the device, after that I will physically uninstall it. If it isn't embedded into the board. I do a restart, then click out of the notices that tell me what I already know, that the card is gone, or isn't working, or whatever windows comes up with. Making sure that the device is not in the device manager, sometimes it doesn;t entirely go away. Then I shut down properly, and install the physical card, when I restart, I get a notice of a new deice and install the proper, updated driver. Then I put the operating system disk in the drive, restsart, and click out of that window that comes up to install the OS and all that crud, then go into start > run > type "cmd" when the shell opens, I will type "sfc /scannow" < notice there's a space between sfc and the / , but no quotes. This will take a while, what it does is make sure all main, system files are present, and in the right place . Sometimes, if things have been monkeyed with allot, it will take some time to fix it all. And sometimes, I need to put in the activation code. Making certain that I uninstalled any tweak program that i may have used . More or less allowing the system to act as it was when it was in order, because obviously there's something not right. Either way, it's a learning experience, and you'll surely fix some things that needed fixing anyhow. If that does nothing, well hey, you gave it a better shot.
  3. Alright there are better people here to talk to you about EVDO, but I can say this about hotel access. May times they don't have the capacity to serve you as they say because most the time there is no system admin to make the adjustments needed. The ISP comes in and sets it up, and thats that. Vista supposedly runs it's network settings dynamically (on the fly TCP adjustments ) , so it can be difficult to set things the way you want them. There is a way to use cablenut on vista, read this thread carefully , and follow it exactly. Some people have had good results, others not much. Iv'e used it on a local vista system, and it worked rather well.
  4. There has to be something within your system to be limiting bandwidth. I would clear out everything that I didn't need, or that I thought could be "calling home". Update the device drivers, check to make sure that the driver for the network card is up to date. Have yo tried different cable ? There are two different ways to wire a cat5 cable, and can cause speeds to be lowered. Goto this test server and see if it tells you there's an issue somewhere. Half the information if supplies, only a handful of people in the world fully understand, but the things you will need to look for should be apparent. http://ndt.anl.gov/ You want to ( after the test ) click "statistics " and see if there is a cable mismatch, and or if the connection is limited to half duplex. You should look to see if there is any packet loss detected as well.
  5. Good call. Hey joepep, have you tried moving your port on the router to her's ? And or just connecting your machine directly yo the modem and doing a speed test here ? That would rule out a router config issue.
  6. Thanks fo the google link on trident. I searched plenty of that, but in the case of HP servres, trident means something entirely different, trident is something that's flashed into the rom of iOS embedded with the server chip, it contains it's own OS to remotely administer a server. Although this has nothing to do with this thread, I just thought id'e throw that in here considering this OS has nothing to do with MS , or IE. And this is why I asked him if he was running a server OS in another thread that was posted . Good idea to scan for any kind of malware. Myself I do all scams in safe mode, because not always , but many , and most times, the program isn't running while in safe mode.
  7. I'm not totally clean on what exactly trident is, but is seems to be on most HP servers, there's graphics cards that use a trident drivers, as well as a wide range of other trident explanations. I first ran into it when searching for the correct scsi drivers for an HP server. I found that there is a company tht implements this "trident" into datacenters to allow system administrators more control over the programming side of the OS , vs. a software administrator. So I was actually hoping for some explanation from you
  8. Well that would depend on what "package" your paying for , or what tier of bandwidth. You might be on there 5mb/ .5 mb tier, which you would be right where you should be. If you can find that out, maybe look at the bill, it would be help ful. Welcome to testmy.net
  9. I see trident is running on your system, will you tell me something about this system, like the OS and y=the harware specs ?
  10. Lemmie know what you think about it, I have it on cd as well, I was gonna try it in a VM.
  11. Is that a server OS your running ?
  12. Re reading what the original thread was about , looks like my post was sidetracking the theme. The way I see this highlighting issue is there are so many people that feel information is not to be shared freely, and then you have the information blocks, some ccll it censorship, others call it copy write, blah blah. There are a few business out there that integrate within the code contained within the code .vbs, html, whatever, that stops the user from even highlighting the text on the said page. So it appears that this is something to log users who regularly do this, for whatever reasons they feel they need to come up with to stop this. Now there are some legit reason, because I have seen as the rest of us surely have, where someone creates something, like a stor, or something that should be given exclusive rights to the "owner " , and someone steals it, and tries to pass it off as there own. Then you have the issue that so many people now are creating a site, simply to make profit off of, anf they feel as if that information is seen somewhere else, it's taking money from them.
  13. Well that may be true, but as we do more on the net, it gets more difficult to keep anonymity. There's actually none to begin with . If you sign up for the internet, and have an email, then that information is in a server, ready for the taking. There's just too many ways for some one to get that info then i care to even begin to go into. Everyones personal information is on the net in more ways then even thinkable. Most all info from holding a mortgage is public , all criminal records are public, and free, phone numbers, even those on the so called no call list are public, in fact, that list is public. Considering that the ISP logs each IP visited by each IP, Each machine hold a MAC addy forming the machine specific ID, it follows the machine until the machine is destroyed, the browser reports to the server more information then most people would imagine, those of you with server admin experience, are well aware of this, each website also gathers, and logs each browser, and system information of each IP visit. Therefore, it's not very difficult to get a name, and a physical addy from a server log, in fact, it's a little bit like opening that old thing called the phone book, but much more personal information is in there.
  14. There could be plenty of things stopping the speed. Have you plugged into the port ob the router she normally does , to rule out a QOS setting ? Or connect to the modem w/o the router for a minute to see if the issue is even router specific. Look to se what security programs your using such as a secondary firewall, and or spyware feature . There could be a small piece of spyware hidden that is sucking bandwidth from the network adapter. The network adapter settings still might be set for whatever IPs specific details it needed. Welcome to testmy.net
  15. Great Idea, but it costs almost $200.00 for one small bottle. Not even close to something as claimed as 1/2 penny a day because who will pay for it ? When world leaders intend on keeping Africa in war, and people dyeing so they can seize the minerals there .
  16. I had to check this out a little more then I thought. Listen, about 4-5 months ago, i started getting that magazine ! Although I get enormous amounts of mail, sometimes so much that they have to drive it up to the house (i should explain that, I live 1/2 mile off the road, my drive is pretty damn long ) anyhow, I have a lot of packages, and were into quite a bit around here, but i don't get any magazines, I read all I want here and in my bills lol. The mag is in my name, addressed to me, now Iv'e had others sent to me trying to get me to sell there products, but rarely as a ritual like this one. So I wonder if at some point in time, I came across an article that was linked to thm, and they subscribed me. Oh yea, Like the others, I have never received a bill. :/
  17. I had my hands on a touch screen something, that used it, of course it was slow , and obviously very network dependent, get too many apps open, and your stalled out. I'm sure this has a place in the future, big time, but for now as the infrastructure in the US is behind a bit. Maybe 20 years from now when there are no wires strung everywhere.
  18. Unless I missed that stuff, I don't know how I coulda , dammit, better late then never   Happy Birthday shug , and mamaT !!!!!!!!!!!!!! :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
  19. "octopus of cables " , would that be " octopi " of cables :haha: Remember, generally, the cable going to the modem, usually, not always depending on the splitter, comes off of the end, where there's a straight line, or just one port. But if it's that bad, who knows lol
  20. But really, just stay on them, tell them that there has been contact before, and you are not getting the service you are paying for. Be careful what you say about your internet speed though, because they only guarantee a certain speed to begin with, and they will shut yo down fast in conversation otherwise. Keep calling, keep telling them that you can't watch TV, and if it is "tiling" then tell them that, that is a dead giveaway for a line quality issue, they know this already. Don't give up, and don't get frustrated, some ISP's count on that.
  21. Hmm, sounds like your ISP knows which sites give false readings. If I were you, I know which site I would be apt to believe, especially since you know there is a serious problem to begin with, or you wouldn't have started looking for answers . Stay one your ISP about it !!!!!!!
  22. Most any proxy will slow your connection , so that might not be anything your looking to do actually..........
  23. Iv'e had the same issue n the past, the signal for the TV is different from the signal for the internet, so if there both messing up, then it's a line issue. Chances are the problem is underground, or in a local port , even possible a signal leak in an overhead line ( cracked from wind ). You'll ne more then a standard install guy to investigate and locate the issue. First they should drive the street of the line with there leak detector, fix that, then have an unused laptop and connect it to each port starting at the one closest to your house ( hopefully they used the handheld to check for levels at your modem connection ) . From there they can get a good idea as to the severity , and have a decent idea where, after checking call logs from neighbors , many people never even think twice about there speed, so there may be no complaints other then yours.
  24. *Spills some drink* Keep the faith , and pass it on.
  25. What"s happening dude, good to hear from you again You still in the states ?
