  1. I know it might be a long shot, but you could put something like linux mint on a USB pen, and try booting to that, if it's enabled in the bios. Or even if it's available in the bios. I'm stabbin in the dark on this ;/
  2. So you can't get the case open ? Well just blowing air into the case through a hole isn't going to do a thing. You need to get that case open, some of them can be tricky, just work with it, you'll get it. You need to blow the crap out of the fins in the CPU heat sink , I'm taking a good stab at the fact that it's so packed because chances are, it's never been opened, like most .
  3. Well then if the system freezes when you try booting from the cd , then it's definitely not in the hard drive. So thats ruled out. You said there was a significant amount of heat coming from the case, or fan exits, have you looked to see if the CPU cooler was clogged up with junk ?
  4. I dont mean to bug, but have you tried running fixdsk yet ?
  5. Hey Jeff, good to hear your still pissin and moanin about vista :haha: Thats one nasty trcrt you got there, and your so close the the server eeek. Now I know better then to treat you as a beginner, you having all those years in the computer field as you have, you have more knowledge about this stuff then most of us here ! If not all of us. So when you have a question like this, I dunno where to go. Whats the connection like now, are you still in the same building with the same connection ? From what you posted, looks as if there's still a router in the planet that isn't configured right, even though just before it, there's a 500MS return from within cox. ;/
  6. You cant boot from a cd ? So your telling me that when you place the installation disk in, shut the computer down completely , then start it up, then when it say "press any key to boot from cd.........." you can't? what happens then ? Because this would signify it isn't a software issue, it is a hardware issue, and I havent heard you say anything like that , other then the heat. Ypu can run some things in the recovery console with out doing any damage, thats why I suggested running "chkdsk" . What this does is look for nasty errors on the unmounted dev0 . Now the reason not to run "fixmbr" is because the mbr is located at cylinder 0, head 0, and sector 1 / dev0 , and if this has not been damaged, and it's re wriiten, then when the machine boots, and bios points to dev0 cylo, head0, sector1 on dev0 , and it has no place to point to because it was reset, and because it holds the partition tables on a partitioned device, the system halts because it knows not where to look to boot the active partition. Anyhow, if in fact you even have bad sectors , file structure is yet to be seen. Even a boot sector virus is yet to be seen. would be more apt to think as zalternate said memory, or a virus that is loaded during boot, into the memory , that starts running in the memory causing an overflow, and crappin out the rest of the boot process. Why don't you goto the ultimate boot cd site, and download it, burn it, then ask here, coknuck for one uses it, I dunno who else does, but people have good things to say about it. It's chock full of utilities .
  7. Yes, but if you arent certain it's the MBR, and you run "fixmbr" your done !
  8. WOOT ! Tomorrows the official release of snow leopard. Although i wont be getting the realease for a few days, I let the email goto the side to preorder DOH ! So I just did it today. I'm looking forward to the re wriiten finder "Grand Central Dispatch" , finders awesome as it is, but they re wrote the code in cocoa from the ground up to utilize the already standard 64 bit procs in all intel based machines.
  9. Just curious, what does that mean ? "whats ur net " , I mean the last time I was asked that, was when I bought a crap load of motherboards , sold em all in a week, and someone wanted to know what I made
  10. good thinking. It could also be something like a nasty virus . You could insert the install disk, then shut the machine down, all the way not a restart. Then boot to the disk, when it asks you to use the recovery consol, press "R" , you'll be at the "C:/ " prompt, type "fixdsk " . The system should check for errors. You may also want to run "chkdsk" this way.
  11. Well I wouldn't be the one to ask that, anymore, I only use photobucket , I think, I probably have accounts all over the place , who knows, but Iv'e never had any issues with them. I should add that it still tweaks me, even though my pictures there had hundreds of hits a day, bringing all those users to that site. Kinda stupid if you ask me, think of the lost revenue, thousands of hits per month , multiplied by the added user base because they were drawn there , DOH ! :haha:
  12. Not knowing why it wont boot, it's hard to say, if you have any information as to what went wrong, I'm sure there's several people on here that are using vista, and will be glad to help you.
  13. Thats why I wont goto those site that do that. What a joke. I lost tons of stuff, because THEY had a problem for a while, then my password wouldn't work, so my time passed by and bam, thats it, all your stuff is gone, and there password recovery system doesn't work, or didn't, doesn't matter what it is either, but if anyone asks me about that site, I'll lettem know , no worries there.

Looks like you guy's are handling this well enough on your own though, I just have to do the disclaimer thing , this site does not condone, or help out any illegal activity when it comes to , well, any illegal activity, or even discuss it. If there is a relevant question about a torrent issue, thats one thing. Please read through the forum rules
  15. I used the ccs calculator for these values, I took a wild stab at your latency and avg it at 550, which may or may be correct, try the file in the att below. Always restart after applying each setting. I noticed that if you apply, restart, use the connection, then restart again, things settle in a bit more. Can you post your current settings, before you apply this one ?
  16. Wait, wasn't the original trinitron released in the late 60's ? I looked up stereo TV and that was in 75' , I suppose you have sen much more then many people.
  17. Maybe I'll catch him next May Guess I'll have to keep my nose to the endless pages of configuration code. Ah well, good thing I enjoy it.
  18. So you've been doing this for a while, you must have seen quite a bit of change not only in electronics.
  19. Where's swimmer when ya need him
  20. Takes maybe 45 minutes dude
  21. Well get used to it, haha,, I mean until you get used to vista, and get some of there "things" out of the way.
  22. So I take it your enjoying your upgrade .
  23. Sounds like an interesting job really .
  24. Well like zalternate posted, it's difficult to diagnose every issue with the tools they have at the call center , and the tech would probably be the best idea right now.
  25. What about a cordless phone ? If you live in an apt, or maybe even next door they have a powerful cordless thats getting in there, or sometimes remote cameras, anything that transmits. This might be stretching it, so I'll look at it myself as well, but I'm wondering about bluetooth, I doubt it, but then again, I don't know the frequencies either. I'm also thinking of the firmware of the modem, but generally , only the ISP can change that. .
