  1. to share your Smartbro just plug it to your Linksys router, configure your router to asign IP Address automaticaly to both pc and laptop, I belive that your laptop has a wireless lan on it, so you must enable the Wireless lan on your router , remember enable DHCP on router, this will auto assign IP address to computer that will connect to it, and also set the IP address of the router to Auto DHCP or automatic, this way the Smartbro Antena will auto assign IP address for your router too..that will so it. not try to connect to your router, everything is plug and play..or you may check on how to share internet connection can be found here [snip] Edit out site.
  2. my smartbro has no problems at all. iam using it in an internet cafe, and speed is awesome, all can play conquer online, browse youtube and friendsters or chat, we have 14 computers including the server and a laptop, i used 1 server for sharing inernet its windows XP with ICS or internet connection sharing, i have FIREWALL Enabled and Tweaked my Internet Using MAXBROADBAND can be downloaded here [snip] i used it everyday to test the connection speed and it will tweak..my SmartBro is Plan 999 and im planing to use a router next month i'll post results on connection when i have tested it with a linksys router. Edit out site
  3. everyone has a point. now it is up to the readers which advice to follow yeh? i was able to dropby in one office which has more than 10 computers connected in two 8-port hubs with only one smartbro connection. what the network administrator did was to make his pc a server so smartbro can detect only one mac address; 2 lan cards are used. all of the computers connected can browse as if they are not sharing only one connection. speed was amazing.

  5. A cautionary note on cloning mac addresses- If you don this and you try to communicate over the network with any cloned mac computer the network will go through something like this: You type (for example) the IP address for one of the cloned computers, say 192.168.0.3. The network will broadcast "who has 192.168.0.3?" Because TWO computers have the same mac, BOTH will answer with their mac address, which is the same. The network will become confused and will not be able to connect you to either because of the conflict. It will NOT tell you what the problem is, it will just hang, and hang, finally timing out. This will happen especially if you try to network one cloned computer to the other one. The same problem can happen if you allow Smartbro to give the SAME IP address to 2 cloned mad computers. Smartbro will expect ONE computer to answer, but it will get TWO answers. This can cause their network to become seriously confused, maybe even thinking it has been hacked by another user, cloning your mac. I have been through all of this stuff already. I finally spoke to an engineer from smart, and he traced the problem to the duplicate mac address. He kept saying, "hmmm... this is weird... I see 2 replies to everything the smart network transmits...do you have more than one computer connected?" I played dumb, not wanting him to know that I cloned a mac. I told him it must be a smart network problem. After that, I hooked up a router to my smartbro cable. I changed the mac addresses back to normal on both my computers. Now, smartbro sees ONLY the router mac address. I made sure that the router firewall was activated so that my 2 computer mac addresses didn't come through to the smartbro network, because that would cause the network to make me login to the portal each time I switched computers. The same goes for routers. If you are using more than one router, make sure you don't clone the macs. Just hook the 2nd router into the output of the 1st as if it were just another computer. Right now I'm using 4 computers on my smartbro connection, but it only sees the one mac address of my router. I can even access my canopy through my router, although the installer made all the settings correct so I didn't have to change anything
  6. A smartbro tech came here to check my connection. When he left I can't access my canopy anymore using the 169.254.1.1 method. Of course testmy.net would let me down hehehe following the steps in one of the threads here I was able to access it again (using the 10.20.30.40 way). When I checked my canopy settings, I noticed that my IP address is now set to "public" and the IP address of my canopy is inputed in the box. Questions: 1. Is there any danger my IP address is set as public? 2. If I change my IP to "local" and erase the IP in the box will I be able to access my canopy the old way (169.254.1.1)? Please help me on these Thanks.
  7. before yes. but now, its no longer possible since smartbro identifies you using the MAC address of your canopy. unless you know how to modify the mac address of your canopy to make it the same as your neighbors, then that's the time that it's possible.
  8. Guys please help me how to share my smartbro connection to other pc's and laptop using my linksys wireless router? please help me guys

  10. directly connect your computer to your smartbro when using the arp method. anything you did before you encountered this problem?
  11. smartbro is in the philippines. the 802.3 Link enable/disable is one setting in the canopy you should not alter. it is enabled by default. i understand you have a canopy with 7mb aggregate? i suppose right now you cannot access the canopy webpage, do you? if you happen to disable the 802.3 link, one solution i know is to use the canopy default/override plug. here are some provisions from the canopy user guide: 802.3 Link Enable/Disable Specify whether to enable or disable Ethernet/802.3 connectivity on the wired port of the SM. This parameter has no effect on the wireless link. When you select Enable, this feature allows traffic on the Ethernet/802.3 port. This is the factory default state of the port. When you select Disable, this feature prevents traffic on the port. Typical cases of when you may want to select Disable include: ◦ The subscriber is delinquent with payment(s). ◦ You suspect that the subscriber is sending or flooding undesired broadcast packets into the network, such as when − a virus is present in the subscriber's computing device. − the subscriber's home router is improperly configured.
  12. I unforyunately do not have an answer to your question, but I was wondering, where are you located. The reason I ask is that I also use the Canopy system to access the internet. SmartBro uses canopy but they are somewhere in the Carribean I think. I myself am in Louisiana.
  13. i need help my canopy wont boot and 802.3link is disable.... how to activate 802.3 link and how to make my canopy to boot and access smartbro
  14. I should mention, Im on a mac OSX machine. any mac gurus out there able to help me please? I mentioned that even though I have changed the DHCP setting in the canopy SM, internet still works fine, and I dont want to mess with much anyway. I simply want to get my webcam working. is that possible with the 999p smartbro wifi residential plan? do smartbro wifi open any ports for even trying to do redirection? I have "ip internet webcams" . they dont even need a computer attached. they just need the live internet connection and port forwarding activated. cheers
  15. I'm sure a smartbro user will be long soon to help you out Welcome to testmy.net
  16. Hi guys, this is my first post here although I'm a frequent visitor of this forum and have gotten a lot of useful tips and tricks. Anyway my problem started about 3 or 4 days ago. I noticed that I get terrible lags from an online game I was playing hen someone from my network starts a browsing session (I have 6 PCs and a smartbro plan 999 384 kbps). Now some might say, "oh 6 PCs for a 384 kbps connection=lags", but I've had this setup for almost 3 years now and this is the first time I've encountered this. Before, I can have all 6 PC's simultaneously play online games and/or browsing and even downloading some stuff but they never feel any lag. Anyways, to continue, I decided to do a continuous ping of 192.168.224.1 (I believe this is smartbro's gateway). It starts off normal (6-10ms) then when I fire up my browser and load a website, my ping starts to jump up to around 500ms even reaching as high as 3000ms!!! I did this test using 2 computers, one does the ping while I browse websites on the other. Thinking it might be my router or switch that's causing the problem, I decided to the test on a single PC. Hooked up my smartbro cable to my ethernet port, start to ping and then browse some sites. Same results, the ping starts at normal then goes way up then back to normal when the site has finished loading. My current AP has excellent readings (1 jitter and over 700 RSSI) although I still tried to switch to another AP with slightly lower values but still the same result. What could be causing this? Thanks in advance.

  18. thanks for posting your AP Eval screenie johnmikeb now i can see where your problem is. you are currently homed in the wrong Access Point in your base station. color code 51 (current AP) says your RSSI is only 551 with SectorUserCount of 23. you should be homed at color code 57 where the RSSI is higher at 972 and SectorUserCount of 27, w/c is just within a good range. SOLUTION: CHANGE YOUR COLOR CODE. 1. login to canopy webpage thru 169.254.1.1 (default) 2. click "Configuration" 3. click the "Radio" tab 4. in the color code box, replace the current value 51 to a new value 57 5. click "Save Changes" 6. click "Reboot" 7. wait for your canopy antenna to reboot and then close your browser. if you like, restart your computer or disconnect then reconnect your lan to make sure the changes will take effect. 8. do a speed test http://www.testmy.net/speedtest/d_load.php and post the result. (OT: hah, i've already mastered tweaking smartbro, they should be getting me! haha what do you think? )
  19. been an ubuntu user since feisty ... right now im using hardy ... so far, i've been using smartbro and i've got no problems ... almost every house in my neighborhood is using smartbro ... anyway, any tips on how i can access my canopy (via 169.254.1.1) ? thanks in advance ?
  20. well the answer is you cant make your smartbro faster.. but you can do the tweaks to make sure that the whole bandwidth will be put into good use.. you can use the 20 steps by coolbuster.. it can help you set your computer so the speed your getting will be the same speed that you will be using..
  21. i just checked out motorola's site and i just found out that canopy lite supports only up to 512 kbps... seems not all of us can enjoy the new speed of SmartBro which is up to 1.8 Mbps.. btw, am located in Cebu City you would like to check out this page: http://www.motorola.com/staticfiles/Business/Products/Wireless%20Broadband%20Networks/Point%20to%20Multi-point%20Networks/Canopy%20Products/Canopy/_Documents/static%20files/CanopyLiteDatSheet%5B1%5D_New.pdf
  22. I just learned late last night through a phone call I made through the SmartBro hotline that they are indeed increasing their speed, not just up to 512 kbps, but to 1.8 Mbps! Great isn't it?! Some of us may be experiencing intermittent connections right now, but these are all due to network enhancement. Though they are still in the testing stage.. Hoping for the best! Comments, anyone?
  23. my smartbro connection is very slowwwwwwww........ ..and i cant do anything about it...
  24. Hehe... I have done everything, believe me to push my connection way past the advertised 384 kbps..lol but still some of it are futile... Besides i use the net usually at night time and early mornin, where my connection is stable at 384+... so i didn't bother doing test so often... Just so everybody know... i started this post long time ago WHEN i am still hooked up with smartbro... Now i'm switching, i'll just probably get a pldt broadband or a wired globe broadband plan...whichever is better.. Well goodluck to all the peeps here in tweaking their connection..
  25. i tried to use the proxy setting: proxy.smartbro.net, it boosted my speed from to but i have a hard time opening websites and it looks like i have a slow upload speed, four letters H E L P
