Need Help

Hey guys I live in Canada (Toronto) I was just wondering if you guys can help me out or give me advice as to what to do. I have rogers (Broadband who advertised its speed at 3Mbps) and over the past 2 months I noticed that my speed has dropped from 4Mbps to 0.36Mbps. It seems that during the daytime my speed won't be able to exceed 1Mbps, however at times when I test it (really early in the morning 7am or really late after 2am) my speed is at like 4.5Mbps. I'm just wondering what to do about this, and what the problem is, and hopefully you guys can help me fix it  :o

lol I dont do speed test while I upload... I did my 2nd speed test while my neighbor was home and the 1st one when he wasnt.. I have emailed to rogers about this, but they are not believing that its the neighbors fault, and want to check it out for themselves. So should I make an appointment for them to come over, or will my neighbor shutoff his upload when the cable guy comes which will make me look stupid (since the net will be fine when he stops uploading)

wellcome to the forum

I am from the UK and don't have cable (adsl) so all I can say on this is , I had a problem when my download droped to dial up speeds (56Kb ) and my ISP were slow to show any interest in the problem , I did a lot of tests on TMN and saved them, and they excepted that I had a problem ,(it was a Telco fault ) just thought this may help your decision ,

Do you have a wirless router and is it possible he is connecting to your router when hes home?

yes I do have a wireless router and I did lock it with WPA-PSK... right now it's still so slow... took me ages to reach this site so I decided to do another test... this is from like 2 mins ago(yeah it look me 2 mins to load from the time I got this test result to here)

lol rogers keeps making me make an appointment, and I dunno if I should do that coz the neighbor will just stop their uploads when they see the rogers van, and I'll look like a complete jackass for calling them over and complaining abt my "0.5Mbps" speed (Yes I can see them thru the window on the pc... god I wanna kill him)

Either that or you can invest some money in a super sound system and constantly blast music.. if he complains or asks why you always are playing music just say " Well, seeing as your bogging my connection and i can barely get online i decided to start listenging to music nonstop"

Maybe he will quit whatever hes doing  :haha:

look on the bright side if you kill him  , you may get a good cable connection in jail ,

yeah that wasn't funny, and I feel your pain, my ISP kept tellimg me I had a Trojan , although I was putting my spare puter up, with a fresh install,

but they did listen to my  Testmy. net results,I finally got through to a snr. Techie , who listened and checked the results,

LoL you have no idea how many times I sent an email to my techie I always get the same reply I doubt they even check their email...

Common and help me out... I don't pay $55 dollars to rogers for this

horrible connection I can get with my phone line. Please do not send any

more "Make an appointment to check ur equipment" messages, and acually

do something about the problem. I thank you for your time in reading

LOL sorry you don't have to read all that it's just garbage that I put to make a point.... Now Let's get back to the helping me fix my internet part and move away from helping/tempting me kill my neighbor part xD

LOL yeah , you are right , time to move on, the way I see it (from the UK and ADSL) so that kinda rules me out ,  Rogers is willing to investigate ( you were very polite with your mail , I swore at level 1 support ) will this call out cost money ?  you have given them the proof of the poor speeds , can you put another puter on lime to check for speed v spyware etc.

the UK techie was able to give me some tests to do, and check the results without comming out ,

and we resolved the problem at no cost to me , (telco)

lol as of right now I'm sending more emails to see if the reply is still the same...

hehe I took another speed test on their site and took a screen to show them testmy.net is not a fake, and just as accurate.

Should I scan my bill to show them how much I'm paying for this S#!tty service? (sorry it took so long... you know my internet speed... it took me a while to upload my jpeg image on imageshack.... kept getting timeout LOL)

LOL , we had the same test from Eire(uk ) well sort of , that will start a war lol,

with Testmy .net results you can save to notepad , just test to as many places as you can, and save the results, my Techie ( in the UK ) was happy with my tests from testmy.net,

Hey Roco should I just get an appointment... and have them come over?

but I'm pretty sure it's the neighbours since when they're not home my speed is over 4 and it goes under 1 when they are. I would call them over but now I don't want to look like a jackass since my neighbours will surely shut down their uploads when they see the red rogers truck in my driveway. Oh yeah resultz at the bottom :D
