ghostmaster Posted October 31, 2006 CID Share Posted October 31, 2006 Well, we just got new rigs at work. They are blazing fast! Specs as follows... Dell Dimension 9200 Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4ghz 4GB DDR2 533Mhz (Didn't offer the 800Mhz version ...) 16X DVDRW DVDROM NVidia Geforce 7900GS 256MB 2 17in DVI monitors 160GB Sata2 drives configured in normal SATA mode. Was running raid 0, but found no benefit... This bastard installed XP in about 10 - 12 minutes! Installed Vista RC1 X64 in 20minutes and scored a 5.1 on the performance rating, with the memory scoring the lowest. I'll run some performance benchmarks when I get a chance.... philp Posted October 31, 2006 CID Share Posted October 31, 2006 I bet you can download some serious porn with that! How much you think those cost?
ghostmaster Posted October 31, 2006 Author CID Share Posted October 31, 2006 I spec'd them out and got the price quotes! With our educational discount, they were $2,079.31 per machine. Also came with 3 year, on-site, next day parts and labor, but im Dell certified so I can order and install the parts myself. With 4GB of ram and 2 DVI monitors, that is ridiculously low! Normal price was around $2400 with a 1 year warranty, so you would be looking at around $2700+ total for a regular consumer.

ghostmaster Posted October 31, 2006 Author CID Share Posted October 31, 2006 Ok, so 3DMark06 kicked my a$$. The video card on this thing is pretty weak on it though. 3DMark03 was good though....

ghostmaster Posted November 1, 2006 Author CID Share Posted November 1, 2006 4X1GB 2X2GB would have been nice, but harder to justify the price. Shoot it was hard enough convincing them we needed this..... We also got new laptops. Latitude D820 Intel Core 2 Duo 2Ghz 2GB DDR2 800mh(i think) Nvidia Quadro 110 60GB harddrive, and all extras like wireless and all that.... for about $2000 with discounts.... ghostmaster Posted November 2, 2006 Author CID Share Posted November 2, 2006 Those are some nice machines.. any reason to upgrade now? I want to steal it and take it home... We upgraded because of large digitization projects that are going on. We aren't in the habit of ordering serveral difference models, so our department (systems) got the same upgrades as the Center for Digital Projects. We also bought some new machines for regular staff. They cost a lot less. Pentium D 945 3.4GHz 2GB RAM DDR2 800MHz 80GB Hard Disk Radeon X1300 16X DVD-RW 19in DVI monitor... I would have been more than happy with that.....but I aint complaining....
