I dont think she will ever be able to stop it unless she makes an example of someone, most anything else can be worked around like Dlewis said. Also I am sure you know you can hit the reset button on the router and kill the current password then change it.

Shug7272 Posted November 23, 2006 CID Share Posted November 23, 2006 agree with shug. tracking software, warning, firing. Did you see what you just wrote? You might want to modify it quick you agreed with me. :haha:
resopalrabotnick Posted November 23, 2006 CID Share Posted November 23, 2006 i saw it as you advocating a tracking sw on the machines to keep employees under observation. first violation leads to a warning and a public flogging, second violation leads to termination and reassimilation into the collective. Buntz Posted November 25, 2006 CID Share Posted November 25, 2006 She did the same thing you did hit the reset button and undid the block. Lock the router in a room she can not get into.

resopalrabotnick Posted November 25, 2006 CID Share Posted November 25, 2006 does the employee in question have access to the room where the internet connection enters the building? if not, place a router there. make the one the employee reset a switch. and voila, no more myspace. Dark06 Posted November 26, 2006 CID Share Posted November 26, 2006 Or you could just cut her some slack Or you could tell her to hit me up i'll teach her everything there is to get around a router
tommie gorman Posted November 26, 2006 CID Share Posted November 26, 2006 If you are on my clock and there is something to do. Work. To get on my space do it at home. Pretty simple really.
Swimmer Posted November 26, 2006 CID Share Posted November 26, 2006 alright here are a few things you can try.. The router method.. If it is a linksys.. If you put dd-wrt then you can disable the reset button.. not a great idea if you mess with it a lot but hey.. If you want to use the standard firmware change the router ip to something other that 192.168.1.1 and then in the host file on the computer route it somewhere else like localhost.. Then pretty much apply a block to myspace on the router. Each time there is a request for myspace it is going to be logged. So it should be to hard to figure out who is going where. The second option would be to modify her host log file and direct myspace to say localhost.. I am not for tracking software. I think it should be used as a last resort method. Also setting up the firewall on the router is important also.. Not allowing external sources such as ssh, remote desktop, etc is important but also killing proxy setups from the browser is also important. Does this person have an administrative account? FallowEarth Posted November 26, 2006 CID Share Posted November 26, 2006 You can use the hosts file (dns caching) to cache the site to the loopback IP address. The result: page cannot be displayed.
