disturbed Posted December 13, 2006 CID Share Posted December 13, 2006 you can scrap up the ram you already have - ....it wont do any good - its extremely extremely slow - you gotta start all over with ram - get a fresh 1gb
disturbed Posted December 13, 2006 CID Share Posted December 13, 2006 ....you could keep it....but your new ram is gonna have to be ran at that slow speed.....makes the whole thing out of whack....new 1gb kit can be bought for 80 dollars - considering this isnt going to be a high end machine, I would recommend value ram, something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145505 ......but you still need to be careful what you are buying....start thinking from teh beginning......decide on which processor you would like....that will narrow you down to which motherboard type you want, and ram as well...you will most likely need a new power supply as well.....you are pretty much looking for an entire new system - i doubt you will be able to swap some parts you already have - maybe a hard drive or an optical drive....but other parts....you would probably need to start fresh
coknuck Posted December 13, 2006 CID Share Posted December 13, 2006 I was going to recomend this ram since the board is DDR PC3200. Voltageman Posted December 14, 2006 CID Share Posted December 14, 2006 the power supply is crap i would spend a little bit more on that. IMHO, the Power Supply is one of the most overlooked piece of hardware that people have, and a crappy power supply will only cause you problems, and in some cases shorten the life of your components, or as my parents found out, can fry your motherboard when things go really bad... You can not have too big of a power supply, but you can have too little.

outlaw69 Posted December 14, 2006 CID Share Posted December 14, 2006 get the other board.it has a better chipset more pci slots and on board raid, and you don't need a floppy for sata hdd's also if you have a dual channel motherboard use it.one more thing the ati chipset might not play nice with your 7600gt.you really don't need that cpu fan unless your gonna overclock but i can run mine at 2.5mhz on the stock hsf. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131569 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145440 and heres a good power supply plus it has a rebate. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817153023

gotmilk Posted December 14, 2006 Author CID Share Posted December 14, 2006 Yeah, that's what I was thinking, I was having second thoughts, because I realized this is just going to hold me over. I'm also going to go with the cheaper motherboard and no CPU fan, since I'm not going to overclock. That keeps me just under $400. Thanks again guys for all your help. I'm still not 100% sure I'm getting this computer yet, but it's probable considering it's under $400.
