x_6985381 Posted April 9, 2007 CID Share Posted April 9, 2007 Check this out,I hooked up my old computer with a wireless card, and somehow it's getting 2mbps download and 512kbps upload. Someone must have wireless, but it's randomly connecting to their connection. This is weird.

disturbed Posted April 11, 2007 CID Share Posted April 11, 2007 using a signal that is not yours can be considered theft, you are stealing their bandwidth

No, you wouldnt do anything, so if someone leaves a wireless connection unlocked why would you take their bandwith? not cool and not morally right. i wanted wired and wireless internet so i bought a wired and wireless router..... Blako Posted April 12, 2007 CID Share Posted April 12, 2007 There are small computer businesses that drive around town and using their laptops find one insecure wireless network per city block. (then they notify the people of their vulnerability)

ninjageek Posted April 12, 2007 CID Share Posted April 12, 2007 If he is close enough he may of been getting a free hotspot. Lots of places are starting to offer thoes. So it may not be stealing. Not sure how one would go about finding out. Friend of mine lives close enough to one of these free hotspots. I know the local college has it. Lets the public tap into when they want.
