C-Money17 Posted May 30, 2007 CID Share Posted May 30, 2007 I have been trying to delete a few files off of my computer, but every time I try, I get this error message that says "cannot delete file. It is being used by another person or program. Please close any programs that might be using this file and try again." I'm stumped. I tried moving the files to another location, renaming them. Nothing works. I don't have any other programs that are running when I attempt to delete the files, so I don't understand the error message. Many times if you just reboot and go straight to the file and delete it, that will work also. There are also programs to kill files like that. http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=320081

Yup I have had the same problem. I bet he was DL porn (or at least that is the only file that I have had this happen to me with). It is a little more involved then what you are thinking of. I have had a file that was not in use at all by anything but I could NOT delete it. For one of them I had to download a program just to kill it so I could delete it. Doesnt happen often but when it does.... damn its a pain. What you are thinking of is for example you are playing a mp3 and go to delete it, you have to stop playing it to delete it. Sometimes it is not that easy though. At least I think that is what you are thinking... do you think I know what your thinking?

C-Money17 Posted June 1, 2007 Author CID Share Posted June 1, 2007 I finally figured out how to delete the files off of my computer. I used WinRAR, a downloadable file archiver program. Once you open it, it will list all the files you have in you documents folders, and allow you to delete any of them without the hassle. MttFrog13 Posted June 2, 2007 CID Share Posted June 2, 2007 this happened to me yesterday, i had a file stuck on my desktop which i keep very clean it was so annoying. I found a site that said to end the explorer.exe process in task manager and delete it from command prompt and it worked. Here is the site, it also list other ways to delete files if that doesn't work everyone should take note of it for future reference. http://www.michna.com/kb/WxCannotDelete.htm
