REV0LUTI0NIZED Posted February 10, 2005 CID Share Posted February 10, 2005 Has anybody from Testmy.net have had horrible speeds since the upgrades from Comcast Comcast 'Upgrades' are Downgrades Mystery speed issue plagues cable giant For the past few weeks, many Comcast customers country-wide eager for promised speed upgrades have instead noted their downstream speeds are actually slower. Comcast techs are claiming that some of the problems are due to older modems in the field, which you can exchange for newer models, according to Comcast. As skeptical users in our forums note, they've achieved higher speeds via Comcast (and even @Home) with those modems, many of which achieve 10Mbps on other networks without issue. http://www.dslreports.com/shownews/60117

jsbollin Posted February 19, 2005 CID Share Posted February 19, 2005 I recently received my "upgrade" about a week ago and noticed a marginal difference. I upgraded to the "gold tier" ($10 more per month for the 6mb speed) and have noticed my speed ranging from 4.5 - 5.5....and then it will drop down to around 3.5 or so for a few hours. You may want to make sure you are actually receiving the upgrade speed (gold). I called and had it added on but it never went through...called again the next day and the didn't save it to my account. Finally after 3 days my modem finally received the upgraded signal...Comcast=crapcast I have a "tech" hahahaha coming out next Sat to do a line test. I'm sure the guy will replace to connectors and call it ?fixed". Any idea how you can make Comcast provide you with a signal booster et al...? :::.. theelviscerator Posted February 22, 2005 CID Share Posted February 22, 2005 Keep laughing sometimes all it takes is one crappy end to ruin a setup. Generally its best to have fresh wire from the pole...... I tend to run my own drop when I move....( I have a spool of messenger wire left over hehe).. rails5445 Posted February 23, 2005 CID Share Posted February 23, 2005 had my modem changed today with a sb5100. noticed a big difference in download speeds .( was using 3com prior) though i'm not getting sufficient upload speeds, only 238Kbs. download speed attached below
jepuskar Posted February 25, 2005 CID Share Posted February 25, 2005 Well, I called last night and upgraded to the $10 more a month, I should be getting 6 down and 768K up. My upload speeds are at 700kbps, so I'm very happy about that, but my download speeds ar 2Mbps and sometimes 1Mbps today.... before the upgrade I was always around 3Mbps, no matter what time of the day. I have a Surfboard SB3100, I'm thinking about getting the SB5100, but I would hate to be a stroke and find out this is not the reason for the speed issues. Any suggestions? jepuskar Posted February 26, 2005 CID Share Posted February 26, 2005 Ok, was told by Comcast that the SB3100 was the reason for the slow download speeds. I went and got the SB5100, once it was finally registered with Comcast I am not getting about 5 down and 720K up...very cool.

Mike415 Posted March 22, 2005 CID Share Posted March 22, 2005 If you are getting really slow speeds it could be because of your router... That was my problem. My router was changing my ip and some other stuff I guess, but then I ran the cd and it took the settings from the modem and now im running fine
Ronnie1055 Posted March 22, 2005 CID Share Posted March 22, 2005 Quote Has anybody from Testmy.net have had horrible speeds since the upgrades from Comcast I have been through two upgrades with Comcast. My speeds, initially, were great... better than advertised. Then a couple of weeks... maybe a month... after the upgrades everything went to hell. I lost almost 2meg. on the last upgrade to 6meg. The first couple of weeks I had it I was averaging ~6300 down... then boom... I was around 4300 - 4600 or so. Of course... Comcast did not see a problem. What was interesting is it seemed to effect about a third of the Dallas area... so they weren't just picking on me. Very frustrating experience... glad to be away from them. Darkstarx Posted April 1, 2005 CID Share Posted April 1, 2005 Bensalem, Pa. here. When they announced the upgrade my entire Neighborhood fell into the slow lane! From 6am untill 3pm daily speeds never get above 1 to 2 meg, After 3pm speeds slowly fall to a low of 100kbps to 900kbps!!!!! After midnight speeds begin to increase sometimes spiking above 4 meg but always up and down. They say too many of us are on one node and it will take a month to fix!!!! Why so long when the slow down happend over night???? Forget on-line gaming, email takes long to download for crying out loud. And I am only half a mile from the "head end" office!!! Thanks for the misery Comcast. Rick :angry5:
