This is not what I would call speeds up, and I have the pro pack which is supposed to be 1.5mbps down and 256kbps up it only lacks 1.11mbps to get to 1.5mbps. You must be on Wild Blue's payroll saying their speeds are up, oright now the average on your site says Wild Blue's average down load speed is 800kbps, is that a average of all their beams or just 34 that I am on? check it out I am on beam 34 that is about 200% oversold. I would like to what you posted backed up, I have kept tests for the last 2 years or so and only a couple months before Christmas the speeds were up for around 2 or three weeks and they managed to pile enough new contracts on the already oversold beam to get everyone down below 600kbps I don't call that having their speed up their income yes but speed no. You are welcome to check my speed tests since I have been with wild blue. Now I'm through with my rant. Thanks, funny I don't feel any better. The stats you see for wildblue here are for wildblue as a whole. ... I really would have to be on wildblue's payroll to be able to detect that. But that would be cool, if I could do that I'd for sure make sure that my users would know Sorry about your isp troubles, sharing information like this with our community may help someone else make a more informed decision. tommie gorman Posted February 4, 2011 CID Share Posted February 4, 2011 dcroc84375 try the 2992 test file instead of the 512. That is not big enough to let the satelite warm up enough for the test. And do you rstart the modem upon getting on the internet? When I was on Direcway/hughes I always restarted my modem and defragged before I did anything else. And kept virus and such cleaned out sometimes daily. Just saying. Not that you did not. Just what I did. Do you have anything running in the background besides that shouldn't? A router perhaps? Man these are blazing speeds for the pro pack. Called tech support tonight after looking at speeds like this all day, emails were timing out, some web pages wouldn't even load. All the tech said was they knew about it and they were working on it. Weird didn't even get the song and dance about jumping through all the hoops. I ask him when they were going to close beam 34 which I am on here in okla. and he said it was already closed which it's not, I checked the wildblue.net web site before I called and it is still open in my area, he did a little song and dance and started to try to get me off the phone. Oh well I guess my loss is someones gain. Sure wish there was another way to go where I live, even if I could get dial up I'd go for that hell I know that is going to be slow and don't have to pay over $80.00 for it. And to think I have been with wild blue since Feb. 2006 but it wasn't always this bad, but I don't think them launching a new bird the middle of the year is going to do much good, they will have it overloaded in 6 months and it will be the same song and dance. fmrusmcrntx Posted March 19, 2013 CID Share Posted March 19, 2013 I don't see any recent (later than Feb, 2011) posts on this topic so I'll chime in here. After we (Central TX Hill Country) began converting to Wildblue's "Viasat/Exede" service back in April, 2012 we've seen a substantial increase in speeds. And looking at the charts/graphs for the service, I'm consistently much faster than the overall Wildblue averages. I run seperate upload/download tests ONCE per day, usually early in the morning. What I do note per the graphs is that the Wildblue averages (per the graphs) are substantially lower than mine. I can't completely explain this. However looking at the detailed results from the Wildblue "Members" data, I see folks running at the speeds I get; a few even better. But, I also see folks running much slower. Further, I see some folks (and I'm not being critical, what they do/how they do it & how often is their business) running MULTIPLE tests every 5 minutes expecting (hoping for) a different result? For example, a user named "Scoreteam" does this often & their results are very poor. Which then per the graph brings DOWN the "average" for Wildblue as a whole. Doing this makes no sense to me? One of the defs of insanity is "doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result". If a Wildblue client doesn't have the newer Exede/Viasat service with its faster connection, they're NEVER going to reach the speeds/bandwidth capability of those of us who do have such service. Running repeated tests every 5 minutes won't change that, will it? Don't think so. Anyhow, that's my 2 cents on the issue. I'm very happy with the new Wildblue/Exede/Viasat package; beats hell out of what we had before and certainly is far BETTER than dial-up which is the only alternative for many of us who live in remote/rural areas. Thanks Ca3le and your team for this fine website; BEST on the net!! Jerry, Llano County, TX, USA
TriRan Posted March 19, 2013 CID Share Posted March 19, 2013 That user your referring to is probably running an auto test and very impressive speeds some cable and dsl users don't even see speeds that high

fmrusmcrntx Posted March 20, 2013 CID Share Posted March 20, 2013 That user your referring to is probably running an auto test and very impressive speeds some cable and dsl users don't even see speeds that highYes, TriRan they're clearly running auto tests repeatedly. Which does nothing for the Wildblue overall average per the graph since their uploads are consistently < 1mbps & downloads < or = to 10mbps. As I said in my earlier, running the same test every 5 minutes over a period of several hours will most likely NOT improve their speed? Very best, jerry in Central TX Great speeds, too bad its got built in latency.Thx tommie gorman. Yes, we Sat system users have a LOT of latency; it's the price one pays with a Sat system Internet service. But for us in the rural areas, unless we can get CONSISTENT wireless 3G or 4G (we can't YET in this hilly country, not enough towers)we either use Satellite and pay the latency price or we use dial-up. In my place, which would you choose? I'm very happy with the performance and price I'm paying! While that price is a bit higher than those in metro areas who have ready access to a variety of High Speed Broad Band Internet services (including DSL & Cable Modem)at least I'm not creeping along @ dial-up speeds. Thanks for your reply.
TriRan Posted March 20, 2013 CID Share Posted March 20, 2013 Well I'm sure he's not trying to make his Internet faster simply by testing because you are correct it wouldn't help one bit I'm also sure he's not trying to make wild blue look bad by testing like that one thing he is doing is gathering valuable information on his Internet connection at the cost of his monthly bandwidth limit
fmrusmcrntx Posted March 20, 2013 CID Share Posted March 20, 2013 Well I'm sure he's not trying to make his Internet faster simply by testing because you are correct it wouldn't help one bit I'm also sure he's not trying to make wild blue look bad by testing like that one thing he is doing is gathering valuable information on his Internet connection at the cost of his monthly bandwidth limitThx, TriRan; I totally agree. To me it just didn't make sense, but then "different strokes" and all that. He/she is welcome to do whatever they want; it's their system they're using and their bandwidth limits that they're up against. I do note from what little I've checked that they run small size tests both up & down. Which again, is fine. I found out (with a little help from my ISP tech spt) that running larger size tests once/day provides more accurate overall results...at least in my case. And looking @ the "member history" on your fine site, the results I see tend to bear that out. Those of us who have the new WB/Exede/Viasat package(s) running less tests with larger sizes (both up & down) tend to have far better results from what I see. One thing that I have no way of knowing is whether the user in question is on the newer & faster Exede/Viasat WB connection or the older & slower setup. If the latter is the case, they'll never match the speeds that we're now achieving. But oh well, that's just a wag on my part, as I said, I have no way of knowing. Anyhow, thanks very much for your response & for the great work that you fine folks do with this outstanding Internet Speed Test website; BEST on the net by far. I'll leave this issue at this point, no sense on me continuing to speculate on what some other tester is doing; not my business and I'm HAPPY with the results I obtain! Thanks again, very best to you & all the fine folks involved in making Testmy work so very well.
