Guest helloimtim Posted September 10, 2005 CID Share Posted September 10, 2005 Cuban doctors put on stand-by a week ago by President Fidel Castro to fly to the aid of the victims of Hurricane Katrina said on Friday they hoped the United States would put politics aside and accept their help. ADVERTISEMENT So far, the word from Washington has been thanks, but no thanks. The White House snubbed Cuba's offer and said Castro would do better "freeing" his Communist-run country. Meanwhile, the 1,500 doctors are taking English language classes and brushing up on their epidemiological skills. "We are sad about the position the American government has taken. All of us have been waiting here for eight days," said Dr. Juan Carlos Dupuy, a general practitioner and chemical lab specialist. "This is a humanitarian problem. We have to put aside politics. We are ready to go," he said. Castro, calling a truce in Cuba's four-decade-old ideological war with the United States, offered on September 2 to fly the doctors to treat people in the New Orleans disaster. The Cuban leader said it was no bluff. With things so bad why not accept the help. If nothing else it would give both those from Cuba and others from around the world who have been so kind to help us a chance to come together for one simple goal. Man helping man and screw the politics and the politicians. President Reagan Who I think was one of the best presidents had the forsight to show Russians as humans. Not what we are shown in history. Or we all tend to assume. Simply put I just think its another chance to show everyone no matter what we are taught and shown. No matter what someones politics and color of skin, We are all simply the same. Human Beings who love our Kids. Our Family's and have the desire to help others who just need a helping hand. I just think bush is so drooping the ball in so many ways. Makes me Sad.....
cholla Posted September 10, 2005 CID Share Posted September 10, 2005 I agree with helloimtim on this one.I think we should take all the help offered from foreign countries .It would give them a chance to pay back the USA for a little of the foreign aid. Probably even to Cuba at one time.So take the help.

dn0 Posted September 10, 2005 CID Share Posted September 10, 2005 I can't see Castro NOT having some ulterior motive. Are we forgetting, this is the same guy that let Russia park a bunch of nuclear warheads on his little island, and then aimed them at us and/or our relatives. I know we aimed ours right back at Cuba and Russia, but our government has been replaced many times over since then,, Russia's government is completely changed, then there is Fidel Castro, no change. cholla Posted September 10, 2005 CID Share Posted September 10, 2005 dn0; Castro may have an ulterior motive. So what do you think hes going to do with 150 doctors.Start germ warfare? I doubt it so let them in a good will jesture.Castro can't live for ever.Things are already a lot loser between the USA & Cuba than they were during the Cuban missle crisis of the 60's. Btw keep his doctors busy it might keep them from cloning Castro.I could be wrong maybe Castro could live forever.
tbaker397 Posted September 10, 2005 CID Share Posted September 10, 2005 We need all the help we can get. Cuba/Castro hasn't done anything major recently(that I can recall) to not letting them into the country. I believe whole heartedly that Castro was actually trying to be of some help to us. dlewis23 Posted September 10, 2005 CID Share Posted September 10, 2005 doesn't bother me at all because, last year when cuba was hit by a hurricane really bad we offered aid with money and doctors. And guess what they turned our offer down.
