Your upstream TX power is lower ( which means less attenuation, better ), and your receive looks much better. Across the board, it looks better. Did you re-configure any wiring, or did you just straight swap modems? Also, what plan do you have, 4000/512? Do you have a router, maybe? Your dl speeds look better, just not sure about the 1.5Mbps. Here's mine from Cox, for example - 4000/512 :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 4753 Kbps about 4.8 Mbps (tested with 2992 kB) Download Speed is:: 580 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server2) Test Time:: Fri Jul 15 2005 23:44:52 GMT-0500 (Central Daylight Time) Bottom Line:: 85X faster than 56K 1MB download in 1.77 sec Diagnosis: Awesome! 20% + : 45.57 % faster than the average for host (cox.net) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-BOSYFJKZQ :::.. Upload Stats ..::: Connection is:: 513 Kbps about 0.5 Mbps (tested with 579 kB) Upload Speed is:: 63 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server2) Test Time:: Fri Jul 15 2005 23:45:21 GMT-0500 (Central Daylight Time) Bottom Line:: 9X faster than 56K 1MB upload in 16.25 sec Diagnosis: Awesome! 20% + : 21.56 % faster than the average for host (cox.net) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-3C5LH9I7W

Well, -10 is a little low, but that won't cause a speed drop or reset off generally. Everything else looks good, 46 is good for the upstream. Sorry, I guess you'll have to wait for the tech.

Good station.... If you wanted to experiment, I use Windows Media Encoder 9.0 to stream Audio and Video to my wireless laptop and other PCs. It's free, and you have all kinds of control...can't hurt to try. Uses WMP on recieving end. Link to WME 9.0

I see the reply dates, but dlewis23 must of had a brain fart today, no offense. In reply to indestructable: I have tried, but have never been able to simulate a cached test myself. I couldn't do it if I wanted to. -
This may or may not be a modem problem. RF issues can definitely cause a modem to reset frequently. What is your 'Power Level' under the Upstream section of the diagnostics? Also, what is your Downstream Signal to Noise Ratio?

I know that WPA is more secure, more difficult encryption to break than WEP.

:haha: My dog WAS a puss, she bit my kid when he was 1 year old, then --- Not really, I gave her away. I wasn't trying to suggest that I could or should. I guess my post sounded FAT-headed, didn't mean it that way. I use it for troubleshooting RF issues, all that I can read that is the non-encrypted Docsis traffic such as Ranging Requests, Ranging Responses and similar traffic outside the actual customers data traffic. But, I am told that that encrypted traffic that I can see is not hard for big brother to decrypt and this does happen ( "Patriot Act").

I suppose it is a bit tougher to eavesdrop on an optical link, but it ain't easy to eavesdrop on a coaxial link either. I do have the ability to "listen in" on the cable modems, but it is all BPI encrypted, so all I see is gibberish. Part of my job, I have a Sigtek ST-261 Docsis Protocol Analyzer. Link: http://www.sigtek.com/products/st261/ST-261_Detail_Brochure.pdf They make equivalent machines for fiber optic links, also.

David18 - give us an update as soon as you get back online. Looks like you are in the danger zone. Be safe.

I agree 100% I was just throwing out my thoughts-

About all that you can do without a tech call is double check all of your connections. Visually inspect them, and be sure they are all tight. Good luck-

Coax is a bit slower (~.870 VoP, or ~87% the speed of light) but at most you have a couple thousand (obviously give or take) feet of coax between your home and the node. And at the node, you are transfered onto a fiber for the rest of the trip. I get under 10ms pings to the local dns servers. So, I don't think the actual coax is slowing me down too much. I just wonder if Verizon Fios has fewer devices between the user and the WWW. Every device will slow you down.

I think your link is busted JunkieXL: I manually typed it in - that's some serious flash- And I like to check out http://maps.google.com/ and now Google Earth (http://earth.google.com/)

"Data 3X faster, video 3X brighter, Audio 3X louder" I agree with Mactron - stick with a name brand, and if you live in an urban area, or near any type of transmission towers, you may want to consider quad shield cable. It is shielded better than most cable (hence the name).

Aren't you still cleaning up from last year down there?

Hope all of you Gulf Coast residents are keeping an eye on Tropical Storm Dennis. They say it will become a hurricane soon. Let's all help wish it away, don't need another hurricane slamming the South again. Edit: I killed one map, 2 made post too huge.

Here's an interesting undetected bug I just came across.........
dn0 replied to cak46's topic in General Help
That is it, nail.exe is it's other name. Did you read the BBR link I posted? They call it Aurora/Nail: "You don't need to reformat your computer to remove aurora! It only took my two hours to delete aurora/nail, while I was writing this guide. Reformatting takes forever, especially replacing all of your files." -

It's not that Damn Aurora adware, was a pain in the ace on my buddies PC. It would keep regenerating with a new name, also. Found info from BBR: http://www.broadbandreports.com/forum/remark,13561597?hilite=aurora -
You know, I have no idea why I chose Off Topic.. I guess others are probably curious, too. Should have been General- Thanks for the info.
-
I'm curious: I was browsing the "Who's Online" page and saw the Spiders section at the bottom. Who or what are the 'spiders'?
-
Thanks, cholla, that article explains that it has to do with the identification protocol which is apparently generated from the FTP server.
-
Yeah, someone tries to access the FTP about 5-10 times per day. I created lengthy passwords for the users.
-
Bahh, my FTP server fails me. What is TCP port 113 for? It is visible but closed on my system. (hope I am not exposing myself here; but what are they going to get from me, my porn archives?)

31dB is on the low side for downstream SNR, generally you want >32dB signal to noise in 256QAM. That level usually won't cause an issue, and it is an RF issue, not much you can do about it as the end user. Is it unGodly hot where you are like it is where I am? RF levels drop off when it is warm outside, so that may be why you are seeing a lower SNR today. -(lower signal level generally means a lower SNR- ie- lower inputs at the actives)-
