  1. not bad for advertised 256 and my firewall is up
  2. it appears there are no major differences between ram the one at newegg is by configuration and all other specs is Identical. Companies like Dell have manufacturers such as Corsair or Kingston, Samsung manufacture specific models for them. This is the only apparent difference. save the money and go with newegg as always
  3. yea I know I was just wanting to what reactions I might get
  4. Yea kaspy found a bunch of stuff on my PC that was not a virus. like files in my HL folders so I fixed em as Kaspy advised and Counter strike no longer works? What a great program. also it found no reall viruses.
  5. This is same propaganda that is plugged into rediculous hollywood movies like "The Day After Tomarrow" nice fx but incredibly rediculous. We live in post-modern day and we have only been recording the climate for the last 100- 150 years which is hardly a spit in the bucket compared to age of Humanity on Earth. If you believe in evolution than the sample of data is even smaller compared to the age of life on Earth. I think all this global warming is bull. I mean does what a butterfly in china do by flapping its wings effect the weather in the Americas? I unederstand what El Nino is and how it litterly changes things on a large scale. But to say that all factories are responsible for global warming and it is changing the world as we know it. Is like blaming volcanoe's erupting on the abandonment of worshiping the god vulcan. We live on a large and great planet just because of technology we can generate data from all regions of the planet thus making it seem smaller and more fragile than it is. We are simply witnessing changes that are naturally occuring. whos to say that the global climate has'nt been on the incline since the decline of the Ice Age. Which would make "global warming" just a natural cycle of our ancient planet. Global Warming is based on mere correlations and assumptions.
  6. installed Kaspy and found it a most unpleasant experience. After a week I had to uninstall. I had read how it was less of a resource hog than Norton (I was using Norton 2004) and was eager to give it try. All I got to say is Kaspy is a pain in the a$$ and I uninstalled it after a few days of monkey'n around I just got plain tired of telling it that it was ok to do this or that or to use this or that program. I went and got Norton Internet Security 2005 and have to admit they have made interface improvements and it does not seem to be such a resource hog as the year prior. Also, it's interface is just more familiar to me than the others. I was playing Battlefield with no hickups Very Happy

  8. Most DSL IP's have a one year contract and most cableproviders dont. + 1 to cable DSL and Cable run reasonable promos But usually cables lowest package out performs DSL's lowest. + 1 to cable You have to be close to a hub to get the high speed DSL package with cable it doesnt matter where you are located + 1 to Cable if your close to a hub you get really fast DSL. at my old place I had SBC Yahoo DSL and was near a main hub my advertised upload was 386kb and download was 3mb I was hitn 510+ and 2.5 mb + 1 to DSL if your in an area that offers Verizon FIOS its blazn fast, but expensive + 1 to DSL http://www22.verizon.com/fiosforhome/channels/fios/root/package.asp
  9. with 4x agp I'd save the money and get the 9550 by ATI you can get it with 256 ram and its a lot cheaper than the Nvidia 6600 or the ATI 9600. The ATI 9550 has open GL 2.0 and Direct X 9 it will run everything ya want Battleild 2, halflife 2 etc. and its only $64 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814131243
  10. I bought a Sony Wega hdtv 30" widescreen last year for $850 The picture is icredible I love Discovery HDTV Channel These days you can get a nice DLP projector and have virtually any size you want Thats what I am getting when we move into our new house. Whatever you get, get a DLP HDTV. Toshiba has a great picture and is always a couple of hundred bucks cheaper than Sony.
  11. Yea I already sold my xbox and games and put all the $ down on a reservation. plus I work and when I want some new toy like home stereo or HDTV or new PC, laptop, I do these medical studies on weekends and they usually pay $2500 plus. No, well I have an Audigy 2 card but the way the source connects to the sub/amp is kinda stupid I wish it just had a plain toslink (fiber optic) none the less it sounds clean and loud and is great for gaming, movies and all that I did when I was in the dorms before I got married. On the other hand, my Home stereo is great it sounds better on the discrete channel end it just needs better speakers. It has a lower harmonic distortion level but still the PC sounds better. The Klipsch speakers are mad. I need to get some for the home stereo. and sell the yamaha speakers on ebay
  12. Duh . . . I cant believe I did'nt think of that. That's why I love this forum it is a type of "think tank" and as always swimmer you give only the pertinent S#*t. I was actually thinking of just IMing you cuz I figured youd know the best solution. I am actually gonna build a mediacenter PC sometime next year after all the new gpu cards come out, so it will be more affordable. Untill then I am too stoked about the Xbox 360 and want to be able to streamline video and music to my HDTV and home stereo. even though I think my klipsch 5.1 sound better than my Yamaha's in my living room. Its all about convenience though. I was just looking at the same thing. I am gonna try the pvr drivers as I am betting the basic architecture to the pvr is'nt all that different.
  13. Great I have Ghost 2003. Bad news I have to do a fresh install because it sais my Windows is newer than the windows I want to install so an upgrade is out of the question. Will Ghost 2003 give me a fresh install if I need it? I am gonna throw all my stuff on to a nother HDD and start fresh w/ M.C.
  14. I have an GeForce FX 5600 video card and a leadtek winfast2000XP deluxe tv tuner card I dont know if the tvtuner card is supported by M.C. although I have no problems with it in XP pro. Still am I able to go back to XP pro?
  15. I just got XP Media Center, not 2005 oem, if I upgrade can I go back to XP pro if I have trouble with drivers or any other troubles? I suppose someone has upgraded to media center and I would appreciate any help, like how to revert back to XP pro if I need to.
  16. I thought AMD started only a year after intel?
  17. yes I have heard of the opteron but it is a well known fact that Intel server proc have been 64bit long before AMD and that they are truly better, hence the much larger market share. Businesses account for the bear share of computers and dell home computers dont even offer AMD. I am not bashing AMD I am just pointing out that if 80% of all servers are Intel Procs then there is a good reason this is so, especially seeing that AMD is slightly more affordable.
  18. yep sure enough newegg probably has the connector and or extensions you need
  19. This is it this is suppose to be about processors not about laptops other bits of hardware. you cant compare a processor by matching up different pc's or laptops because they more than likely have different mobo's which means different chipsets, ram, hdd, gpu, etc. The G4 is a superior processor even though it has a lower operation speed than the Intel or AMD it utilizes a 7 stage pipeline process whereas the Intel P4 has 20 and AMD is similar. Bottom line is that most people use Microsoft OS and Microsoft software such as Office and the like so the G4 is out of the race. besides apple is soon to have Intel manufacture their CPU's so Apple could possibly make revolutionary turn and make their PC's more like an IBM compatable (which has manufactured Mac's CPU) Anyhow if you are a huge gamer and not heavily into business end software etc. AMD is the ticket. On the contrary if your into IT, and servers, and just simply whatever, then Intel is what you need. It use to be that Intel was more expensive than AMD not necessarily so They both manufacture very good processors so it all boils down to preference. If you are building your own PC you get to pick what Mobo, chipsets, type of ram, AGP or PCI-E, onboard sound or not you get the gist. If not then you can get whateever Dell, gateway, or FalconNorthwest is building at that time.
  20. yea have both of those fans blowing in so that fresh cool air is blowing over the CPU and you should have a port on bottom front of the case too it will probably be hidden by the fron bezel (face plate) put one on there blowing out. That looks like a nice heatsink and fan dont forget to get some arctic silver the instructions are here http://www.arcticsilver.com/instructions.htm
  21. ya lost me. if they are in the same proximity, yes they should be blowing in the same direction if they are directly across from eachother on should go in and the other out. The latter is what I think you were asking but I am not sure.
  22. Hey check out http://www.newegg.com/ProductSort/SubCategory.asp?SubCategory=62 just select what you need ( your CPU Socket type is a 478 pin). so select 478 under compatability. As case fans go you probably have an 80mm fan if the fan is really big its a 120mm just select fan size
  23. Is the task simply to build a PC? what is the budget? You could go to a local pc graveyard and pick up mobo cpu Hdd and ram I figure that should be cheap. if your wanting to build a more modern PC pricewatch.com is good place to find slightly older parts that newegg dose'nt carry any more. Have your son read the Mobo manufacturers Faq sheet to learn what's compatable with what. Have him do the research so that he learns the differences between SD, DDR, DDR2 and their various speeds and CPU sockets, FSB speed, and the chipsets that respectively support each CPU and Ram.
  24. Then why are you talking about laptop vendors???
