Yea ..a switch is diffrent....and cheaper....there's no software or firmware involved......hence nothing to configure....just plug it in with a couple of ethernet cables..

Hey Rafter ..and welcome to the forum.... as you may already know...there are a multitude of variables that play into this system. Your speeds now are not to bad....however the TCP optimizer has helped many people on here....including me.. If your on a regular consumer account...those numbers would fall right in line with the rest of us. There are a few people on here that are on horizon 1 and they seem to do a little better than the rest of us. I can hit right around 1 Meg on most days for a download.....However don't judge the optimizer program today...Mondays are the worst days for Dway.. I just ran 4 tests and they ranged from 384kbps to 998kbps......so this ain't the day to play. Now after 11:00pm EST it usually all clears up...(NOC turns the lights off or something)...Hope maybe something here helped...if there's more questions just ask..

I had the same thing happen....go to tools...internet options...advanced.....scroll down to http 1.1 settings....below that should be (sun) java.....or something similar....if it's GONE...then the page with the run test button won't show up...you'll need to go to the microsoft website and get it.... That's of course if you are running win XP...sorry I'm assuming her you are..

rlh24 ...so you don't have a windows disk...only a system back disk..or a system restore disk ...right??

If you put your windows disk in it will give an option to reinstall....that won't erase an data....you don't need to reformat or anything.....my 10 yr old did it two days ago on a diffrent computer...took him 4-5 min...it's really quite simple.. And I'm not trying to imply anything with the comment regarding my 10 yr old......but a similar thing did just happen to him...and he fixed it himself..

QDOG...comcast still has several diffrent packages.....Van needs to know which package you have to order to help you.... some samples...The basic package tier upgraded from 3000/256 to 4000/384 The gold package tier upgraded from 4000/384 to 6000/768 the cable bill might show this....or the price and a trip to the website...

Well Dave...not sure upload is really the problem...I don't know anything about vonage but I did copy this from another forum.... voIP on a DSL connection (according to Vonage) needs 90Kbps continuously both up and down. Their internet site offers a "bandwidth saver" feature that allow that number to be reduced to 60 or 30 Kbps and they said some people did not notice any important difference. So I tried it at 30 Kbps This person indicated that it worked pretty well at the lower speed....however he was on a sat system and even 30Kbps is hard to maintain.... Hope it hepls some..
