  1. ROM_DOS please post a test with the 2992 kB test file, with the 97 Kb one you are getting mostly the burst speed at the beginning of your connection, not the sustained speed.. let's see what your sustained speed is on larger downloads As for my Connection it's 15/2 Cable from RR
  2. My Roomie's cat is named Five, kind of an inside joke as he's a Computer/IT tech.
  3. Forget all the False Virus warnings.. the one virus people really need to avoid at all costs is AOL 9.0 , it not only slows your connection, causes spam and pop ups but also for some unknown reason removes $24.95 from the victim's bank account or credit card every month.
  4. Tim, just use the 4000_384 settings file I gave you in your "make it Faster" thread it was getting you nearly 50% over your cap, which is more than outstanding.
  5. whatever 105.0.... is, it's fast average download speed from its users is 37737 kbps. maybe a DS3 or college connection?
  6. Actually it does wonders for hosting, especially if you host a webserver as my roomie does off of our connection, Cablenut allows us to use our full upload speed where windows defaults only allow about 1.2 mbps. Big difference when people are trying to see the images on the site.
  7. his problem is that he has no idea how to set cablenut. From his post in the make it faster forum he was trying to use an ungodly 703488 RWIN, that's like trying to force the flow from a fire hydrant through a garden hose, no wonder he was haviing problems. I Posted the correct settings. there for him.
  8. Try this test real quick http://www.testmy.net/d_load.php?s=12160&st=st&ni=ni&ta=&top=&tt=1&nobar=
  9. Also you mistyped the address of your tracert, it's www.testmy.net not www,testny.net LOL
  10. ok confirms you aren't on a 6000_768 connection try this Settings I used were overloading your download, these are for 4000_384 Though i'm very concerned about that bad hop coming into your house, basically from your local provider.
  11. hmmmm hop #2 is a problem.... it shouldn't have timed out as it's the nearest connection to your modem. Try another and see if it happens again. if it does powercycle your modem and try again. Also for speedtesting always start with the 2992 file, it should choose a larger, more accurate file automatically. I would like to see both download and upload results.
  12. no, open a command prompt and type tracert www.testmy.net Then copy and paste it to the forum
  13. Tim Please post a Traceroute to testmy.net.. I couldn't take your latency into concideration. when making the file, so I used 100 ms as a starting point. BTW the jpg does not display.
  14. Tim try the 6000_768 file anyway, from your original speedtest you are nearly at that anyway. I have a feeling you are on that plan, either through an unexpected upgrade or some other reason, but no amount of tweaks can make a 3MB connection test at 5652 kbps. Try the file I posted, it may surpirise you, especially on the upload test.
  15. This should Give you the settings you need:
  16. Tim from your original untweaked speeds i'm going to guess you are on the 6000/768 plan from insightBB. Try this Cablenut settings file:
  17. Try one test with the 2992 size file and see what happens. Also I think I figured out the reason for the huge variation in your speeds. It is your wireless, but due to the fact that the bandwidth for the entire area you are in is shared. Meaning if lots of people are downloading in your area, everyone is slowed down. During peak times of the day you may go as slow as dial up, yet during idle times such as very late at night, have almost all the bandwidth available on your the antenna that serves you. You're not capped like a cable modem would be. but rather sharing a set amount of bandwidth with an unknown amount of customers. Basically you're on a giant wireless LAN.
  18. OK your upload test gave a lot away. you have a syncronus connection.. meaning your upload is the same as your download. try this file: it's for a 5000 down 2000 up connection. then run a speed test.. also remember when doing a download test you can't be uploading anything, and vice versa.
  19. Actually I think it's the dallas level3 server that's the problem. I don't have to go throughit to use the GA server but do for the west coast ones.
  20. yes speakeasy is good. however I've noticed that the closer the site to you the better the speed and it can vary as much as 5000-10000 kbps on distant sites. For example I'm in Florida and testing from Atlanta I get 14000-14500 kbps where from the seattle server I only get around 6000.
  21. Best.. that's a matter of opinion. I will say it's the only besides the NDT servers that can consistantly handle connections of over 10 Mbps. My 15/2 connection Overloads most speed testing sites so bad I could make a list of their maximum capacities.
  22. something is very wrong I just tried the very same file I Posted for you and here were my results: :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 10824 Kbps about 10.8 Mbps (tested with 12160 kB) Download Speed is:: 1321 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server2) Test Time:: Sun Dec 25 2005 22:41:15 GMT-0500 (Eastern Standard Time) Bottom Line:: 193X faster than 56K 1MB download in 0.78 sec Diagnosis: Awesome! 20% + : 149.29 % faster than the average for host (rr.com) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-26RUIEJKV Bear in mind I'm on a 15/2 connection but the file was only designed for a 3mbps connection so it's working to it's maximum... try doing a tracert to testmy.net and pasting the results here.
  23. just open cablenut, click clear settings button, and reboot that will set everything to windows defaults. in the mean time i'm going to test the file I set up for you and see if there is a problem with it on my system.
  24. Blunted, I used the j9zlr page to get the settings for him based on his quoted connection speed. That's why i'm confused as to why his speed is so slow, almost seems like a hardware issue. Edit: Oh man I think I just figured out the problem... It was never said what OS he was running 98, ME, or XP. Settings I gave were for XP not sure what would happen if used on a 98 computer.
