My old DVD burner did the same thing. Sometimes it reconize medea and some times it wouldn't. Like you said it would take forever at the end to burn if it even finished. I bought a new one from Newegg and all is good now. I guess you have to replace them once and a while.

Do you clear your cache before taking a test? Sometimes it depends on internet traffic. I get a pause or hick-up as I call it at 30% no matter what I do.
