, It's nearly time for the UK premier day, the day 5th November , yes its Firework night , the night we celebrate the attempt to assassinate the King and all of Parliament Yeah, we have a perverse sense of humour us Brits. the reason was partly Religious , and partly the decadent way the Government was behaving ( so whats new ) just like TMN on a good night, and we have had some good ones !, back to the plot, Mr. Guy Fawkes decided to take matters into his own hands and blow up the King and his Parliament in 1605 , Guy was caught in the act( security cameras ?) just before he could complete his plan , and thrown in the tower of London, a place not famed for it's hospitality , Guy had complained throughout his life of only being 5ft 6ins. tall , and due to the care he received in the tower he emerged 6ft 3ins, but still complaining, so to keep him quiet they hung him , along with his co-conspirators that he happened to mention while under going the treatment , the 4th of Nov. was called mischief day , no longer recognized, as we now have that 365 days a year, but on the 5th we celebrate with huge bonfires, fireworks , getting drunk, burning houses down , and filling the casualty departments at the local hospital, I will end this bit of British history with a bonfire night verse "Remember, remember, the fifth of November, Gunpowder, treason and plot; We see no reason, Why gunpowder treason, Should ever be forgot! Hey, wyantm06,& guys, do you not have the 14 day rule in the USA, ? in the UK if you are not cautioned at the time of the incident ( and I cant see a incident in this case anyway ) the police must inform you of a possible case being made within 14 days, this is to enable you to find witnesses etc. my feeling on this is you are home and dry , just put it down to experience , and just watch out for little old ladies from Pasadena

Hi Cholla , sorry I am a bit naive about reformatting the H/D, I allways use a boot floppy from 9X days , even for X.p. , I just do the fdisk ,delete all partions , if more than one , and start again make the new partions (I always have partions ) run Fdisk/u c: , and with Xp Pro, use the disk to format in NTfs , and install , I have assumed that wipes all, or with M.E. all the above but enter setup instead, Oh, the grandsons laptop is now on X.p. home. that I had spare,just to make it easier for him and me, great little laptop for free, dell latitude 750 Mhz 256Mb ram . etc. all I have to do now is convince M/S that I have moved X.p. home onto this laptop, Re the valve clash , lol,in my apprenticeship days, I was told repeatedly to turn a rebuilt engine over by hand, before using the starter, and thankfully old habits die hard , I was apprenticed to a Lagonda later Aston Martin mechanic from the turn of the century LOL, he used physical violence to emphasize the leasons I learned the hard way , but the Key word I learned when I protested that I cant do that . was, it was put together by a moron, so you can take it apart and reasemble it , just look and learn , that has stood me in good stead throughout life, including my first computer build , Thanks Fred , R.I.P

Hi Cholla , thanks for the advice on the OHC Fiat , Fiasco , but it turned out to be water pump , lol, but saying that I have done a lot of H/gaskets on Fiats, I like the engines, very free reeving and sharp, for such a small size 1200cc and good for 100 mph, but for reliability the 2CV cant be beat , no head gaskets, no water pump , no distributer , no cam belt or chain, no belt driven fan, no thermostat , LOL back on topic , Alexa , and such like, anyone had ZLOB found , ad-aware missed it so did ewido, but Spybot S&D did, in sys.32 , I cant find out much about it ?

Hi Cholla , I managed to get ahead of the game , done a format and clean install of M.E. put on latest Ad-Aware, and loaded latest defs. manualy , the laptop has not been on line , guess what ?, the same 8 Alexa data miner's as in your log , so they must be on the M/S M.E.Disk , I will do some more checks ASAP , but the car awaits, and now the daughters car has blown it's head gasket (FIAT ) so now behind in the game Again !!! p.s. I have not done the IE6 sp1 update, as the laptop will not be going online, but it looks that is not the source anyway Regards Roco UK

OK guys time to bring VOL #1 to a close can anyone riddle me this, I turn on my computer and adsl connects at 3.1 Mb , great, much better than my old 250Kb service, so I do a test to BT (my Telco ) that bypasses my ISP and get this = The speed test has completed on test server speedtester1.nat.bt.com for user 02089xxxx and you have downloaded a 1.7Mb file at a speed of 1454 kilo bits per second (Kbps), your service bandwidth will have been quoted to you in kilo bits per second. and all internet tests agree with this ( sp1a from microsoft , tmn and various UK tests etc so why do I connect at 3.1Mb but only get 1454 Kbps on all tests ? the reason for asking is, I am about to go apeshit with my ISP (8Mb service) and I need to know the relationship with connect speed and actual speed , ( in the UK we have a split system the ISP and the phone company (BT) who provide the wire , ?
