  1. 'Nam didn't seem to teach us anything about children being bombs. It's a vulnerability of American's to reach out to children and that has been the death of many American's and others.

  7. Here is some more info for cell phones. Don't know validility of this. Maybe ya'll do. Here is something worth knowing if you have a mobile phone ... Have you ever wondered why phone companies don't seem interested in trying to prevent the theft of mobile phones? If you have ever lost, or had one stolen, and if you are on a plan, you still have to pay the plan approximately up to 24 months, and you have to buy another handset and enter into another contract. This is more revenue for the phone company. There is a simple way of making lost or stolen mobiles useless to thieves and the phone companies know about it, but keep it quiet. To check your mobile phone's serial number, key in the following on your phone: star-hash-zero-six-hash ( * # 0 6 # ) and a fifteen digit code will appear on the screen. This is unique to your handset. Write it down and keep it safe. Should your mobile phone get stolen, you can phone your service provider and give them this code. They will then be able to block your handset, so even if the thief changes the sim card, your phone will be totally useless. You probably won't get your phone back, but at least you know that whoever stole it can't use/sell it either. If everybody did this, there would be no point in stealing mobile phones. You may want to send this to as many people with mobiles as possible. No charge for directory assistance Phone companies are charging us $1.00 or more for 411 - information calls. 9. This was passed to be by a email friend. Haven't scoped it out fully - maybe someone has run across this and can enlighten everyone. Especially me. Scam or a for sure no crapper? Subject: Free 411 Date: Tue, 30 May 2006 13:49:18 -0700 just discovered a way that you can call Directory Assistance from your cell phone at no charge. I believe Cingular charges $3 or $4 when you dial 4-1-1. Anyway, here's the number: 1-800-FREE411 The catch? You have to listen to recorded advertising while the operator looks up the number. So what--you're waiting anyway. Here's the website that backs up the information and has testimonials. www.free411.com http://www.free411.com
  10. During the after-effects of Katrina - some of the emergency foodstuffs being handed out to us contained cans of Beef Stew that had a self heating enclosure around the can(factory made) that you just poked holes in the top of to let in air to activate the chemicals. That stew got so dam hot you had to watch out for it. Stew was good, too. Just a real life experience. FWIW Broke the monotiny from all the MRE's.

  17. Wish I had the vocal to put on here - but the words are the same anyway " ARLINGTON " by Trace Adkins Arlington - Trace Adkins Genre/Lang. : Country I never thought that this is where I'd settle down. I thought I'd die an old man back in my hometown. They gave me this plot of land, Me and some other men, for a job well done. There's a big White House sits on a hill just up the road. The man inside, he cried the day they brought me home. They folded up a flag and told my Mom and Dad: "We're proud of your son." And I'm proud to be on this peaceful piece of property. I'm on sacred ground and I'm in the best of company. I'm thankful for those thankful for the things I've done. I can rest in peace; I'm one of the chosen ones: I made it to Arlington. I remember Daddy brought me here when I was eight. We searched all day to find out where my grand-dad lay. And when we finally found that cross, He said: "Son, this is what it cost to keep us free." Now here I am, a thousand stones away from him. He recognized me on the first day I came in. And it gave me a chill when he clicked his heels, And saluted me. And I'm proud to be on this peaceful piece of property. I'm on sacred ground and I'm in the best of company. I'm thankful for those thankful for the things I've done. I can rest in peace; I'm one of the chosen ones: I made it to Arlington. And everytime I hear twenty-one guns, I know they brought another hero home to us. We're thankful for those thankful for the things we've done. We can rest in peace; 'Cause we are the chosen ones: We made it to Arlington. Yeah, dust to dust, Don't cry for us: We made it to Arlington. [Thanks to rafael.a.acevedo for the lyrics] For those who don't care for country please bear with me. Jim
