Thanks, that is another one I couldn't remember. I had done much investigating back a year or more ago but now my signal in the house has doubled, maybe because the tower now has revision A.
-
Sure you could, but for your TV, thats why different designs, different types of signals then also directional and omni-directional. What you could be thinking of is called a repeater and requires no connection. A good read is here http://www.evdoforums.com/thread3136.html .

Malware and spyware free? Have you done any physical checking on your system, shut off and remove all connections and look for corrosion, check the feed and see if any moisture or ice behind the mylar cover.? If nothing there are you speeds like this all the time? Other than that there is no information for anyone to go on (example, I have a car that doesn't seem to be working right, what's wrong with it?).

Just popped in here to check this out and couldn't figure out what equipment you guys were using and no mention of any bodies of water neither. I realized it's not about fishing.

It was a good time, met many friends I still have. In fact we are having a reunion this year, our seventh one, figure that out. The simple things, I guess to today's standards, I learned back then have brought me through till now and all I learned still works. Many things you learn doesn't come from books, but where did the books come from?

Many phones have a spot for an external antenna connection. Some of these antennas are inexpensive. If you can bring your bring your signal up I'm sure your results will improve. To get the maximum speed you need the maximum signal. I was looking at that route and remembering finding some on eBay.

kylehassler, A welcome from me as well. I know what you mean about the no cable, no DSL. I had free dial-up a number of years back with Bell Atlantic. They had a special in N.Y.S. if you get one of 2 longest plans (300 & 500 minutes) your internet service was free. I got the 300 for $24.95. month. I lost my phone service a couple of years after Verizon took over, no repairs, but I already had 2-way Sat by then. I would say many here have had dial-up and know how to get to most out of it. Feel free with your questions, of any sort and welcome again.

Some nice uploads there unitychild. That is what my system did at times before the past firmware upgrade that I have no control over. And to think an external antenna may even produce better results, more research on this end.
-
That looks good unitychild and a 15% higher than the average. Have you tried uploads? I wouldn't worry about doing pings, they should probably stay about the same.
-
Would you have any knowledge about VOIP working in the router situation and the EVDO?
-
Can you find these gloves with the XP Pro logo on them? I found a site that seems to have good deals on new drives with full install of XP but only the home version and IDE ATAPI Internal Hard Drives. http://www.compuplus.com/
-
Can you give us some speed comparisons and pings for each of these?

I will be looking to see what you have found out with your testing in Weston. From the information I've been gathering a good signal means a great deal. I have a cousin that's in the Reserves. She had to go to Maine for 5 days about 2 years ago so she contacted Verizon and was told it would work for her (EVDO) Laptop at the location in Maine, $250 approx. and luckily 30 day trial. She brought her Laptop over and we set up a dial-up account for back up, she has Hughes. Dial-up is what she had to use. I also set up a wireless network card and no go. She had it 7 days and got here money back.

Now your going to make tommie jealous. No Sprint where he's at
-
I guess using it at the casino would be a small gamble but what a luxury. We only have one close by and I'm not sure about the wireless, I'll ask my wife, she works there. Just thinking after seeing those antennas maybe mount one on a hat and wear it around. it might give you a 3-4 decibel gain and has mobility. I got some information from Sprint after extending my contract for some perks. I was advanced on to others when I questioned the EVDO. The 4th person I talked to was an engineer at tech support and he answered the questions I had last week. I just thought, if I use one line I already have for the card and the router (WRTG3G-ST) could I set up VOIP for my home phone? Hmm...
-
I hope your not referring to my misspell I just noticed. I don't know how one would check what signal strength an EVDO card is getting. I can only check what is here with my phone and outside shows near double (bars showing). I don't have a card but I'm doing my research.

fikester, I can't see what you got all upset about with post #88 and 89. #88 #89 Yes your post #88 was nice but tommie's #89 flamed you, I don't see it. All he mentioned that the ping test for dial-up almost keeps up to satellite. So that brought this, Gee, you called tommie a "tard". Well for what I could see after #89 you kept up about the price "unitychild" paid for her Sprint. I don't see where it is any concern yours. Granted you did say "you" wouldn't pay it and thats your choice. I'm not angry at you and I don't think anyone else is but you kept harping on what "she' paid, and this I don't believe from reading all the posts anyone was doing that comparing but only you since you mentioned money in 8 posts. To me it looked like a parent scolding their child for what was bought. My self and others I believe are trying to discuss this to get comparisons with EDVO (land wireless) and Hughesnet/Wildblue (sat wireless) and not how many connections one bought. That's it plain and simple and I hope I don't get any retaliation for doing so. Everyone, thanks for your help from another tired Sat user that owns 7 satellite dishes. Granpa

I'm just wondering what you signal strength is here. The card your using is there a port for an external antenna connection? Personally I find that making the hardware perform at max first is better. Then I would tweak, make any sense? I think your connection is running much better now than the last posting here.

tdwanaz, Thanks for the edit , I guess being up since 4am eastern one can misspell a little.

So you wouldn't feel worse. edit: spelling

It doesn't matter because you just can't go on-line for free. Yes ping times are good. Equipment cost is the WRTG54G3G-ST. I was given a price from Sprint of $199.99, it's a wireless router that will accept a wireless card. The card and router are portable on Sprint network. One brand of card works out to be free. Hughes for new is, not sure now but was $499.00 but had rebates and 15 month contract. Being Moto-Sat much much more. Sprint unlimited, yes Gains, better pings, speeds near same maybe better than Sat with same price plan and no FAP. Did I say I'm not getting those speeds, where? Your doing the checking and posting. Sat varies every second and I said I'm curious to see what I could do with EVDO. As far as FAP I never have been in my 6 years using Hughes 2-way. Now we know you won't spend hundreds of dollars but did you put out money for new Sat in the beginning, if so there was a contract wasn't there? I would be willing to try it when my 7000 commitment runs out for the trial period and if wasn't as good I'd return it. Each location can react differently, revision A may not be there and signal quality is a variable. Thats why I'm researching, so far I have no complaints about Hughes at all. Any problems were sorted out and resolved and my 2-way system has been great for 6 years.
-
That flaming part I try to stay away from. I really don't see how you can compare the EVDO and Hughes that way. Ping times shouldn't slow unless something happens along the path which can with any ISP. Also the fact is that EVDO only works over a very short distance, from you to the tower but Sat is miles up and back. And yes sat downloading looks to be faster after it gets rolling but has anyone tried to improve EVDO (fine tune) as we have sat? One Hughes connection would have to be split in unity's case but she has 3 connections and each is portable and no FAP that works in her situation. I'm curious as to see how fast I could get it to go through some enhancements such as antennas to max the signal to top. And I do believe the speed fluctuation with EVDO is because of signal fluctuation them same you get with cell phones, kind of like turn your head and it's gone when your on the fringe. I think it is very similar to wireless networking where the throughput tends to drop over distance but will increase with antenna gain. So to me it looks like EVDO, a new frontier to explore and I down anything until I have tried it or know first hand.

Is that why my PC rebooted itself

Not only do we touch em but we take em apart and forget how they go back. Can that chart we vote on get flipped, I could then be nearer the top of the chart.
