Once in a while I remember how to log in only to find old friends here are leaving, passing on, seems no different than what's been happening all around me here at home. I think of them now and then. R.I.P. Tommie

It' been a while since I've signed on and I'm sad to find this about ROCO. We had emailed back and forth many times. We compared gardens, with pics, his floral, mine vegetable. I lost contact somewhere back in time, I believed he may have moved and changed ISP. I think about ten years ago I was debating on visiting him, we discussed it a little. I guess I never acquired enough feathers for the flight.

Been so busy past few years, grandkids seem to keep you on the run. I hadn't chatted with EWO in a while but he did send me some pictures to compare when he got about 4 inches of snow one time. Had wanted to take a ride and meet in person but kept putting it off, now I'll have to wait a little. -
Biggles, you speak wise and gentlemanly. Would U be my friend?

I have never found anything to reduce the power of the modem, I don't think you would want to though and as for lasting longer, who knows. As for the micro waves we are constantly bombarded with them anyway, all you added is the transmit. I do know I had a speed problem when I first got my setup. I called Sprint and got an engineer who told me I was directly between two towers and I may be jumping back and forth. He told me what tower had the faster throughput and I placed the modem (plugged into the Linksys with a Trucker antenna attached) in a position that blocked it somewhat from the slower tower. Worked fine and has been 18 1/2 months now. I was also told from where I got the modem-router that it only receives through the trucker and transmits from the modem ( towers have far better equipment than we have) which helped me choose a location for blocking one tower. Hope this helps.

So if these truckers are going faster that means we can go faster too

Sure is, supposed to get to -2 degrees tomorrow and is snowing right now.

That is all the things I have gone trough since I bought my first when PII's came out and I may have not listed them all. I have 4 running PC's at home and a laptop I use on the road all put together or refurbished by myself and after being self taught. Started with dial-up, then added one-way satellite, then going to 2-way satellite and now with Sprint EVDO and finding free. WiFi with the laptop. ll this to make some use of the PC. I seem to like it when problems arise though, keeps me thinking.

Here is a site that has much of the information that you need and I had to find out before it became FAQ's http://www.dslreports.com/faq/satellite

This is a network switch not a TV switch. It automatically routes computers on a network. I think your research is yet to continue.
-
Your right, transmitting makes it more precise and the larger the dish also. I found it best to use a switch connected to the modem if you don't want to use a wireless router (can also double as a switch). It also adds more connectivity plus they can be added in down the line extending your networking distance (footage).

I'm not sure about what you mean about using a splitter. You can only use one modem per account, meaning you cannot use a splitters to run 2 modems from one satellite dish. You must know what satellite you will be on and only Hughes assigns that no matter what a dealer may say. I'm not up on current satellites since going to Sprint over a year ago. You cannot do your on install but you can set the pipe mount after you get an account with Hughes and know the satellite your on. I did experiment with my system moving my dish locations at home, very sensitive adjustments and hard even understanding how to do it. Each move was aimed at the same satellite also. I did get better signal strength than my installer though. My last dish move (with a DW7000) was 300 miles away and I hit it right on and is still working from a year and a half ago. Good Luck.
