You probably need to log on as Administrator to fix the problem.

Ain't it just like you trying to make me come out from hiding
-
I'm not hiding, "I'm watching you". Anyway I'll have to check this out later but I use Expedia Maps, works for me to find where everone is.

to the forum romara22 Your probably going to need to give more information about your computer to get any help. Don't be shy, just reply

Sure he is, Hughes is no longer supporting the 6000 modem.

I think the best way for all would be just go to NOC and bust the dishes

Laurawrites Welcome to the forum Until a year ago or more I always had my email with my ISP, the first with Bell Atlantic (dial-up) and then DirecPC (satellite). There were problems back then with the satellite email (formerly DirecPC then to DirecWay and now Hughes) but they don't supply the service directly, they use an email service. So after discussion on this I decided to do the same, use an email service, the result is not one problem since. Also if you by chance switch ISP's your email is done with the former. As I noteded ISP's, 3 of my old ISP's no longer exist. So this is the best advice I can give you

Youtube is video and video usesmore bandwidth. You need to check your usage for your site to be sure have not gone over the FAP.

From everything I have read tweaks don't seem to help Vista. I really would work the sat system for speed and stability first
-
In order to do it you need to see the signal and cros-pol when your at the dish. I have helped an installer who used a laptop, I have set up a PC next to the dish and finally I got an OPI to use, and that was the easyest.

If you want to see a more accurate speed test try it at 4 or 5 in the AM. The 5PM time is generally slower because of daily traffic. Traffic slows everyone down but with satellite there seems to be more of an effect to this. If your traveling at 5mph (satellite) and drop 30% from traffic, very noticeable. If your traveling at 50mph (cable, etc) 30% isn't so noticeable.

Hughes would more than likely call in an installer at your expense for whatever the charge would be. I'm not sure if Hughes would bill you directly or not. Many have taken the time to understand the system by reading forums and asking questions and have been able to do their own alignments as I have. From what your saying it may be best to find a local installer and ask if they could peak out your system and get a price up front. You would need to print out your present numbers ( signal & ACP) for reference just before he does anything.

tm24ns58 Even though you didn't change transponders it would be best to peak out the alignment for the new modem to get the best speeds possible. It is a little time consuming meaning more time involved than your installer may do but I picked up my signal almost 10 points and peaked the cross-pol higher than it was originally.

Did you read this; This is the only way I know to improve your speeds after modem upgrage. It would be like changing steering parts on your car, you then do an alignment. I had to realign when I went from the 4000 to the DW7000.

It's been a few hours, are you still having problems? I never used a hub, only a switch or a router with the DHCP disabled making it a switch. You may need to release the IP addresses on the machines and reboot.

Upgrading from home to Pro Plan...Is it worth it?
granpa replied to mbeer's topic in DW7000 Information
tm24ns58 it would be likely to say you may need to tweak the system (dish alignment) for the new modem especially if you changed transponders. I don't remember Hughes telling anyone about this since there is really no way of knowing until after the upgrade but I do remember some having realignments after upgrades. Also sometimes it may take a day or two for the system to stablize, it does some seff adjusting. -
Got to get to know the water barrel fist before you oil it up? Whe you get it warmed up will you need some tea bags?

Will this only work with a LCD??

to the forum. My speedometer goes up to 230 but I can only get it to go 18, can you help me?

What you need to remember is these are different frequencies and may not act the same. I think the idea for an ideal antenna is to capture the complete wave length. You mentioned hills and trees, it may be best to use a amplifier for more range but I think getting some height and going to a yagi antenna may work better being a straight shooter. Keep in mind a clear line of site always works best.

Your right, hypothetically speaking , but unfortunately in the real world it doesn't work that way. I really don't know the scientific terminology to explain why but I believe there is a point where the signal is ideal or everything is at peak performance. Maybe this will help to understand. Say you have a funnel your pouring water into (normal signal), add some pressure to the water your pouring (amplifier), only so much will go through the hole at the bottom and the rest will just spill over.

First of all if you don't have EVDO any amp won't give it to you. I really would wait till EVDO became available and testing it out before going to any amp. Amplification would be needed if your on the signal fringe or need excessive cable length to a external antenna. You really need to find what your actual signal is and find the best location, you would need to use a laptop or a PC connected directly to the modem to do this since you cannot access the modem through a router that I know of. A signal of -70 is real good, as I have been told from a tech support source and I have read some have gotten lower than this. The real thing to remember that with all the speed test comparisons and signal claims no connection will be the same. Too many variables, different modems, towers connected to, different computers and various distances and signal blockages. It all boils down to get the best signal you can for your location.
