I have noticed since my upgrade from the 4000 that I have been down around 45 signal strength and still browsing like nothing was wrong, just a bit slower.

From what I have been reading there are some control over the land lines. My daughter lived in Ca for 7 years and had dsl. A few time I was on the phone with her and had her test at the same time I did and her speeds were slower. Remember that we have a large jump to cover even before we get to any land lines.

fikester, Looks real good. I really don't believe there is anything wrong with the Hughes system, it works and has done me well for a number of years. But like when I used to drive to work and it was 15 minutes before the hour there was a lot of traffic and it slowed down as much as 60% and weather can cause a slow down. Satellite seems to be the same so I just go with it and only get nervous when I lose some lights on the modem.

Tommie, It must be my home made PC that gives good results. Lately my signal has only been mid 70's so the next nice day I'll see if I can get mid 80's.

From the information I've been reading there are only 2 satellites running the new DVB-S2 ACM system. It may be that when Hughes gets enough of the HN7000S modems in service the speeds may get better for everyone, kind of like when everyone runs the same equipment things will smooth out. I've been using Sat for internet (one way in the beginning) since April 1999 and my phone line was out much longer total time than my Sat INTERNET connection. I am presently on the verge of upgrading from the DW7000.

You did leave a link and thats how I found it. Those other speeds, they can never get " off-of-this-world-speeds" as we do. I originally started with a DirecPC PCI modem and one-way dish (1999) and upgraded to the DW4000 when it came available. Very good download speeds for both. The DW7000 seems faster even though the downloads are a bit slower. I think the faster upload makes it work that way but I never did any ping tests with the 4000 so I can't compare..

I have had 3 PC's downloading at the same time but no larger files (over 5meg). I'm a little confused here. I have read posts elsewhere from you and you said " I seem to be having problems using my new router, it is for cable/DSL (a linksys BEFSR41 v2) ". Now you are saying V4.1. Most that I know of with Direcway-Hughesnet use a BEFW11S4 or a WRTG and I previously used a BEFW11S4. At present I'm using a switch wired to a WRTG and Airlink AR325W both of which has DHCP disabled and work as switches. Is your router new or used? Many have tried some routers and just not seem to work well with a sat connection. Keep trying though, but you may need a different router.
