Welcome to the forum. FAP is a way to keep some from, I guess it could be called hogging. How would someone know how much they are downloading when it becomes so easy. As mentioned, Satellite is usually only used by someone who only can get dial-up and it's a whole different game than broadband. I for one don't even have a phone line including cable, gas or water from outside. I have electric, a good well and a open sky. Well what it does boil down to if you want a bigger bucket, like anything else more money. To find out about your modem use this link http://192.168.0.1/ . Look in the system info. As to what plan, what is your cost per month?

I have had some similar problems in my earlier learning years, I still am. I found that the hard drive can work fine and then mess up at any time. I now use the manufacturers software to check several before I reload the system. It's all a process of elimination. Personally I'd go with another drive first, it can always be used as storage or in storage.

Tommie, I just saw you on another topic, you sure get around, fast.

That and Coke I use to clean metal. Water, water, water, thats what works the best for me. Use enough to flush the oil out or don't use oily water to make your coffee, especially at your age.

That's OK by me Tommie, I've noticed slow down (in) myself the past several years. helps

I haven't been on this PC in over 3 months, it's the common PC, my retired in Feb. ICS DW4000 server that I built 4 years ago and ran 24/7. A Gigabyte dual 866 with XP Pro and 512 meg. It goes through a wireless R/S hard wired 60' to a switch which is connected to the DW7000. This mornings test results; :::.. From what I have read force ranging probably will not help you unless your having a problem, your speeds are good and at the top average for a Pro account. Trying to get a 4/5 which many tried in the beginning of the 7000, and some did, gave higher numbers on occasion along with many more errors. I believe they let it drop back to the 2/3 which is the correct rate code and no more or very few errors. 4/5 works for business accounts.

I kind of know what you mean about no house ground. I had problems with occasional brown-outs and at the same time other parts got brighter. My cousin, working for the electric company at the time in 1992, couldn't figure out what the problem was. Finally after several months we put in a whole new 200 amp service but reversed direction. We put the main panel in the garage 60' away and underground to the house. When the new service was switched they found the neutral at the pole was disconnected. That meant the house ground was failing. When pulled out it was a piece of galvanized pipe, used back in the day, but totally rusted from the bottom to 6" below the surface. No way of seeing that and could go days between problems. Glad you found that (no) ground before something happened. :smile2:
-
True, but if you've done any welding sometimes you need to scrape or grind the galvanized or rust off, whatever the case, to get an arc. I believe that's why the copper coating and the need enough grounding surface. Grounds do fail so I believe it's best not to short cut.
-
This is very important.I forgot to mention that the coax ground and the transmitter ground are two separate wires and should only make contact with each other at the ground rod.
-
70 is a good signal, its very delicate to get higher, takes time and small increments. What did you get on your ACP? Your dish may may have been moving on the roof if only into the plywood and not the rafters. Also it should have been at the ridge or near an edge where it's the most solid. Driving the post into the ground it not the same as grounding unless it is deep enough to stay in ground water all year. Correct grounding is back to the electrical service ground but not always feasible, but it should be on an electrical ground rod Glad the move went smooth for you, I haven't sunk my new post mount in yet.

Well vanschlack, I wonder how your doing. Any other questions if you haven't already made the move? Just so you know I've been looking at some 3" and 2" pipe I have and decided to mate two shorter ones and do a pole mount also. Together I'll make a 11' length with a 3' piece of 2" at the top. Let's hear how your doing.

Don't second guess, your first answer was good.

Yes, it can create problems if not done right or done at all. There is plenty information on grounding http://www.montanasatellite.com/downloads/index.htm. Tommie, have you ever been grounded?
-
You need to print out all your system info from 198.168.0.1 and have on hand, the information should be saved in the modem, but just in case. You could just use antenna pointing, get the best signal but run the manual ACP when tuning that, just reboot when satisfied. Generally I cut very slim pieces of aluminum for pointers and tape them near the pointing marks for even finer reference moving extremely small increments to fine tune. Helps because you'll find just splitting the marks makes a difference. Myself, I had another dish and ODU to do the move with so I had the original still in place as backup.

If you have a Home Depot near you can use the 2 " electrical conduit (threaded), 10 foot lengths are stock and about $40 in my neighborhood. Be sure to drill a couple of holes near the bottom and stick a bolt or rod through to keep the post from turning in the concrete. Brace the post so it remains perfectly plumb (all directions) till it sets up. Wait 24 hours before working on it. The bottom of the dish should be 5 feet from ground level or more.
-
I haven't had a chance to tweak the dish, rain , rain, rain, it wasn't the smart test, I'm not that smart, just used the files size a step down from the usual.

Fortunately I've been on G11 since my 4000 but that was 990 but it was good. In Jan I upgraded and the 7000 was bad, got a new one a week later and that one went the first part of Sept so I'm on my third DW7000, but seems to work OK. :::..
