  1. Just a little update, I heard from the lawyers today regarding the Class Action going on. Frontier are supposed to reply by the 30th of this month, and once the suit is certified, it will then process onward with the rest of our state. I have been told personally, mainly because I have been in contact with the directors and managers of this area. They told me with a few weeks I should be getting a lot better speeds as they are installing second generation equipment to my area.... Yeah I know what you are thinking. I have explained to them, I will start to shed my lines (all two of them) and my TV. I am not paying for this any longer, not for what I am getting. 3 weeks have past, still nothing.... Did I expect anything but smoke blown up my chocolate starfish? no, not really.   2. How does one, adjust a SNR? This means, if you have a lot of line noise, there is not much you can do about it. Frontier do not like their modems to run much more than 80% power, the reason I guess for this is to make it last longer without burning out. I guess you could attempt to increase your output power, but I thought that was adjusted by your provisioning and SNR. One place I would check is your home wiring.... yeah I know, there is nothing wrong with it right? Wrong..... If you can, remove any and all unused phone jacks, the more wire you have in your house the more noise you will pick up. Trust me, it happened with my line when I first got it installed. My noise floor dropped by almost half (according to verizon). I presume you are on the outskirts of your DSLAM, same as I am. They did install what they called bridges, this helped me but who knows what they do anymore.
  3. Thanks for the Reply CA3LE.... Yeah, for years I have trusted this site, never doubted it but in all honesty, as you mentioned I just never did a true comparison. They are certainly padding numbers, I know from my tests. I know how to work out if I download a 10 Mb file, how to figure out what my real speed is. Never again will I question TM.NET.... Why did I do that in the first place, I know better than that. lol
  4. 10 mb file took me 1.32 mins to download, which would indicate a speed of around just under 1 Mbps. this result from Florida. SpeakEasy is showing 5.18 Mbps. this result from Washington DC. Time Warner is showing 5.29 Mbps. this result from Ohio. SpeedOf.me is showing 1.41 Mbps. this result from Chicago. Xfinity is showing 6.36 Mbps, this test from Washington DC. TM.Net is showing 1.3 Mbps, this test from Washington DC. So interestingly enough, it would seem like the providers are all tapping their numbers! This test answered my question...... confusion is over.
  5. I have been using TM.Net for years, logging tests from time to time. I have been requested by Frontier to use speakeasy speed test to see what my speeds are, of which I did and the results was the same as the Frontier tech was getting. So I went to other speed test places like Comcast, I told him I was not using Frontiers one as I feel it is a bias result, he laughed at that and agreed with me. So, on the other tests I get around 5 down and 0.70 up, TM.net is showing 520ish Kbps, so as you can understand I am a little confused. I need to upload a 10 meg file to my server and see how long it takes to download the file to see what is telling me the truth.

  8. One thing to note, when you read the part about "Frontier testing the plaintiffs lines, and the speeds was met", you have to take into consideration the following. Frontier normally will do service calls up until around 5:00pm, the speed slow downs are in my case around 6:00pm and onward, you know when we all get home from work, including when the frontier guys get home from work. My point is, they normally do the speed checks in the morning to mid afternoon. Never will they do it late at night unless you scream at them. This is at 4:37pm my time... Eastern. Wait until 8:00pm...... you can't stream, play games, use VOIP, netflix is out of the window.

  10. It has been a while since my last visit in this particular forum, as some of you know I got rid of hughenet a long time ago for DSL. Anyway, I thought I would come back and see the complaints on Hughesnet, but to my shock, no posts since 2012! So, either Hughesnet have got better at what they do (highly unlikely) or they have less users to complain about the service or maybe people have got used to what they have. Either way, just dropping into an old haunt to say hi!
  11. Just a recap on this, I am back on the 6Mbps Plan, been on it now for many months and its working out great. Turns out it was faulty routes that was slowing me down, but Frontier have been out as per there promise and the have been installing optics to cope with the capacity problems. They have a huge thumbs up from me seeing as they are cleaning up the mess Verizon left them in.
  12. So if they impose caps, the bandwidth is now not UNLIMITED so they should lower there price plans right? probably not.

  14. You got to love this, don't take this wrong and I am not knocking anyone's speeds. Uploads are normally around this if not more, the average is looking good too.

I don't know about that one, thats why I never used it... my plan is 6.0/08 so 21.3 was a little too much to believe... lol Some other interesting info, I am at the end of the loop, before Verizon sold out they installed range expanders and I was told by most of the engineers here that I could go to 6Mbps Easy, well I am now on it and sort of testing it for Frontier in a way, with the issues I had they came good and fixed me up once again and it has been very reliable and I have not really seen any dramatic slow downs apart from a couple of times I tested and I did not know my wife was downloading in another room.... lol

  17. Funny you should say that, the Fiber pipe got severed in Ashburn yesterday! its back up now but I did get worried for a little while lol. It is weird they routed you that way, I was yesterday being routed via Atlanta GA. Now I am back through Ashburn VA. again, truth will be tonight when I test at peak times. I can relate to your frustration and I hope you don't think I have anything to do with Frontier as I do not, I am just trying to be helpful. Maybe they will come good and get you what you deserve! fingers crossed.
  18. Its up to you Vern, I let Chip know you may contact him, but the information someone has been giving you don't sound quite right seeing as we are all routed via Ashburn VA and on up to New York. He may at least be able to give you a time frame for completion on your end.
  19. Really? now that is not good, I am going to supply you with another guy that was helping me. he is a good guy and after all the frustration was over I thanked him many times for his assistance. As a last resort, please contact (SEE YOUR INBOX) CHIP, he will do what he can to restore your service. Let him know Dean sent you Bear in mind that he is in West Virginia so I am not sure if he can help further out in the field.
  20. Did you e-mail Ken Arndt President, Southeast Region [email protected] ??? Trust me HE WILL get things moving for you if you vent to him! YOU WILL get a call within a day or so! Its worth a try and if you have logged this with Tech support, make sure you ask for a FULL refund up-until they get it working as it should be or what your paying for!!! Your speeds are guaranteed to 80% of your paid quota, if it is less then they HAVE to do something about it, don't give it up yet.... My DSL is finally as it should be after 2 months now.

Would seem they have serious capacity issues, but I did receive a word document that came from high up in Frontier that they are upgrading a lot of the Equipment around in WV and other places with Fiber or newer Lightspans in the telco's. Also new backbones are on the horizon shortly. I don't see why anyone should have to suffer with speeds like you have, that is plain BS if you ask me and I would certainly complain to Frontiers CEO's about this, they should have had the hardware, the network in place before overloading the system. Keep at them and threaten to go elsewhere, they are loosing customers in WV like you would not believe over this big mess, if I could I would be on the way to Comcast but I don't have the almost $7000 or whatever the extortionate price they want to run 500 Ft of cable.

He made sure someone contacted me and they got it sorted out. Frontier are having major issues and I am still having them too with continuous disconnects as shown in this image, the Red lines are service outages which is really annoying when your on a call or xbox live. Another thing to watch for with high ping times is noise on your line, distance from the telco and so on... but I take it nothing new has changed for you apart from Frontier taking over?
  23. That is DSL right? I don't understand the results you posted either... Tested a 97 MB file and took 38.039 seconds to complete? yet right above it 1MB in 341.33 sec! I am confused. There is a lot of factors that can make your DSL slow, first off is how far away from the telco are you? distance and DSL matter! Secondly you may want to try the following, move your modem to the NIB on the outside of your house, disconnect the house wiring from the box and try your test again, if you have an improvement it could be down to wiring in the house acting as a antenna, I had the same issue and they removed all wiring to old jacks that was not in use and it fixed my problem. Filters, make sure you DO NOT have a filter inline with your modem, filters go on the phones only! also try disconnecting the phones, you could have a phone that is messing your line up! some cheap imported phones can do this. Post results of your modem stats also.
  24. Doing my little bit to help out around here and help others that may have some DNS issues. Ok, 7:30pm Eastern and my ping is up slightly, not bad as it is peak surfing times for us right now....

With Comcast I could understand slow downs on the pipe up until a certain point, with DSL it is a dedicated line to the LightSpan or Fiber board, from then on we hit shared bandwidth but I do not know the capacity of the network line from there on. My provider states on there main page that it is a dedicated feed and you should never see any slowdowns. Right now they are working on the issues and I tell you, since Verizon sold out there has been nothing but issues! Verizon I had a consistent speed and consistent ping times, now... well you can see. I am awaiting my peak times to see the results.
