  1. I have had it for just over a week, there is many people on it now running the beta testing. Setup is simple, as long as you use the app to look for obstructions, mine is facing NE if that helps anyone. It is fast, I have seen speeds on fast around 220 Mbps and recently on here in the 120s. As they as more satellites and more up-link stations things will get better. Right now I am seeing some 25 - 30 ms ping times, quite amazing for the trip it has to make. The dish is heated so snow and ice melt right off of it, I hope to see how the speeds are during heavy storms. One bad thing so far, I am not sure if this will be worked on or not but the whole system appears to be tripped nated, not good for gamers but I am sure there's ways around that also. Please with it so far, I have interruptions from obstructions while I am waiting for a mount to come, spaceX can figure out how to get stuff in space, but they are yet to figure out how to get something shipped in less than 4 weeks. lol. This is obviously not for someone that has a decent service, this is designed for someone in the sticks with garbage internet service, this will make most smile with the speeds and how quickly games can update, how quick you can post photos and so on.... If anyone has questions, please ask away and I will try to reply.
  2. I gave up waiting on Cable or Fiber in my area, had DSL for many years but Frontier never did any upgrades with a less than 6 Mbps speed. Now I am on the Starlink Beta program and this is certainly going to be an option for you!
  3. Just an update on my service, apparently the guy I was dealing with originally was not worth a crap, I talked to his boss who did identify an issue. Within 3 weeks, he had the old Verizon equipment ripped out of the wirehouse and dslam, put in new IP based hardware and boom, my service is back to the way it used to be. As for the lawsuit, nothing new on it so far, the courts love to drag their feet on issues like this, all while Frontier are fighting to get it thrown out again.
  4. Thread is not dead, just nothing new to report on. Awaiting on the courts to move their slow butts, awaiting on some needed action.
  5. So some good news on this, I received an email from the Lawyers in this case. If you do not know, Frontier apparently put in the "Paper bills" that we must use Frontiers lawyers if we wish to sue them. Now most of us are paperless and would never have seen or even heard about this, the clause as it has been explained to me is kinda amusing, because if you read it right, it would have said something like "if you do not agree to the arbitration clause, do not pay this bill".. that is also a loose quote. So the good news as mentioned above.. Frontiers move to dismiss this has been overturned, so far we have won this part of the battle, of which was a major part. If Frontier had won this part, it would have been kicked out of court, meaning end of story. Here is a link to the Order Deny https://www.kswvlaw.com/documents/Order_deny_arb.pdf This now puts us into a situation, a situation where the whole state of WV can now file into the suit when ready, and who knows where after that! maybe the whole country can get some justice on this sub-par communications company. Myself and many around me, we have nothing less than 1Mbps all day long, in many cases my service is nothing better than 866Kbps. If you know some about networks, I will explain something, and this is where TestMy.net comes into its own. I can start a download to many websites, of which may only have one server, this connection would be classified as a single thread (one connection), where as YouTube and many bigger websites could use Multi thread (multiple connections). So my download on many sites would be 866Kbps, I use this number because most of the time that is what it is. While downloading, I can open another tab in my browser, and from the same site (TestMy.net) for instance and do another download of 866Kbps, I can do this multiple times until I max out my provisioned speed. What this tell me is they are restricting or capping speed on single threads, but if I use a multi thread like YouTube for instance, or I run a multi thread test from TestMy.net, I can max out my Provisioned speeds of around 6-8Mbps. Sounds fishy huh?.... That is because it is. I used to max out 9 - 10 Mbps, I used to have one of the fastest connections around for quite some time, but for the past couple of years, I have had the worst and Frontier will not fix the issue, telling me my "Line Speed" is just fine. Oh and they love to use the Ookla type speed tests, which are notoriously inaccurate. I did as I advised Frontier, I got rid of one of my DSL lines, I also got rid of the TV. They did on the other hand lie to the Attorney General, telling them that I use my line for business purposes and that I should upgrade to a business service for $80 something a month. Now tell me that is not fishy also, I originally told Frontier that I do some work from home once in a while, mainly remote desktop stuff, and what I do with my service has absolutely nothing to do with them. I was proving my point why this service I pay for is so slow. Will keep updating as and when I get more information....
  6. I have heard of them doing this to people on Frontier..... Frontier are the SCUM of the earth, you can tell them that from me.
  7. Time of day also matters, I noticed in your speed results you have been hitting 33Mbps high and low as 1Mbps, you're on cable, so I would call about congestion issues. Trouble with cable is, you share a pipe with everyone for miles, when it gets loaded up, you slow down.
  8. Speedtest.net is not a reliable test, it is java based for a start and uses multiple sites to pull data from. Testmy.net only uses a single point for its data and does not use java. What are you referring to when you say ping? you can't test ping using a speed test here.
  9. Cloud storage, well it's not good for everyone. People with slow internet is one type, people that do not want their stuff stored on a shared server is another. Me, I fit into both categories... yuk, no thank you.
  10. People really are dumbing down, I think something is in the water. People are lazy, ignorant and just don't give a crap anymore. lol
  11. Yeah, Multithread was the terminology I was seeking. unfortunately, for me they are the only game in town. Frontier come in and trash what was once a good service, there has been reports they do this so they can cut back on bandwidth, just to lower their costs. I can get Comcast if I want it, but I can't justify spending $20,000.00 on 500ft of wire. So I am stuck, they have told me they are going to monitor my connections. Right now, my wife is streaming netflix, she is pulling between 4 to 5Mbps. I presume it is a multithreaded connection, if I do a test on this site, it is down to 1Mbps or less in most cases. I understand cutting costs, if I find out the truth, I will go to the papers over this dodgy, corrupt so called company. You should read all of the excuses they gave me.... I have every e-mail the Area Manager has sent me, with all the reasons under the sun. It started out with network congestion, then the DSLAM was too old and not on IP technology? it needed this new card which never came, we are going to upgrade that area, back to congestion, telling me there was a mass exodus of Comcast users and they are all streaming Netflix, they pruned my circuit, routed me via different POPs, do this, did that and more. I had a technician roll to investigate my issue, for the 20th time, in his report was DSLAM at 99% capacity. When I asked about the capacity issue, I am being ignored. Then in the last email, the DSLAM is only at 30%. Sorry, but the BS is not playing well with me anymore. lol
  12. Exactly what I was thinking, in a sense anyway. They do deny doing this, but I would expect nothing less. Either he knows or he is ignorant to the facts. Either way, they need to fix the issues and not put a bandaid on them. Just amusing and frustrating at the same time, with the BS they try to feed me. I am not that stupid, I know what they are doing.
  13. Yeah I have ran them before without finding anything credible. It seems that port 80 traffic is slower than anything else, Glasnost is only looking at one form of traffic and has nothing to compare with. Peer 2 Peer is what I believe "Multi-Homed" if that is the correct terminology, which is why I can peak out my bandwidth. Something happened, got changed by my ISP to stop this happening on port 80. I used to peak on port 80 using the speed tests on this site, I can no longer do that. As mentioned, my ISP have done something, maybe not traffic shaping as we know it, but they are not allowing "Multi-Homed" connections on http traffic. I thought maybe it was my machine, but I have several machines in this house, including 2 servers that I have tested from. I have gone to the extent of moving my modems to 10 feet from the NID and ran 2 new CAT 6 cables back to my PFSense router. I thought maybe it was PFSense doing it, bypassed it and plugged direct into the modems, reset and put back to (Unbridged) mode to make everything as standard as possible. Technicians come out here, they test my connection to the lightspan without issues, he says the DSLAM is at 99% capacity, but the area Manager is telling me, he pulled logs for the past 30 days and has seen no network congestion. Of which I know is BS, half of this state has congestion issues. I am out of options, they are putting up a wall to stop my accusations and now they are trying to tell me I am the only one affected by this, which I also know is BS. Multithreading, that is the term I was looking for. Running a multithread test on here, is near maxing out my connection. Or at least 5Mbps which is better than the single thread, which is my primary complaint. This never used to happen, something changed on their end to do this to me and everyone else in my area. So results are, Multithread 5Mbps Singlethread <>1Mbps Singlethread is normally around 300Kbps most nights.
  14. Wow, that is some nice speed. Never move to the USA, our speeds suck. We are what I like to call, modern day dialup speeds.
  15. In all seriousness, if you fall for that BS, well maybe you should send them all your personal information. lol
  16. Yeah, it appeared on mine a few days ago, I clicked it and went through the motions.... THEN IT CRASHED!. Is this the sign of things to come?, I do hope not...
  17. I am suffering with a lack of terminology for an argument with my ISP. Here is the situation. DSL PPoE, 2 DSL Modems both provisioned at 8 down and .8 up. Running a pure download of a 10MB file, I can only peak at maybe 1.2Mbps. P2P I can max out and exceed 8Mbps, running tests on other sites that use multiple streams (this is where the terminology fails me) I can max out near my provisioned speed. I want to say my ISP is traffic shaping on port 80, and I have accused them of this, of which they say otherwise. So, I need your help with the terminology to throw at them. Something is going on, I can't put my finger on it and it has been like this for a year now.
  18. In WV, we do have a lawsuit, right now it is aimed at 3 Frontier customers. When this goes bigger it is going to hit Frontier hard, this is the first suit of many to come, think of this as testing grounds to see how this will pan out. I will keep people informed of the results, I will try to maintain this topic as we go along. I have started up a Frontier complaints page on Facebook if you are on it.. https://www.facebook.com/FrontierDSLSuck5
  19. http://www.dslreports.com/shownews/Lawmaker-West-Virginia-All-But-Controlled-by-Frontier-132734 http://consumerist.com/2015/02/23/state-lawmaker-says-cable-company-blocking-broadband-legislation/
  20. Ohh, mentioned above was the "Second Generation Equipment". Yeah that never happened. What they are doing or have done is "Groom the circuits" as they call it. 3 times they have done this, and I can tell you, it has done nothing. My ass is so full of smoke right now, I am going to start using it to send indian smoke signals.
  21. So the lawyers have had a response from Frontier... Here is what Frontier had to say, and I find it absurd. Here is a link to the arbitration notice. http://www.ksgwv.com/documents/Arbitration_Motion.pdf?utm_source=Frontier+List+10_25_2014&utm_campaign=9d508d796e-Frontier_Newsletter_2_18_152_18_2015&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_147919fce0-9d508d796e-200787317 If you are having issues, if you want to sign up, please do so here... http://www.ksgwv.com/frontier-contact-form.html?utm_source=Frontier+List+10_25_2014&utm_campaign=9d508d796e-Frontier_Newsletter_2_18_152_18_2015&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_147919fce0-9d508d796e-200787317 On another note, WV Delegate Randy Smith is fighting to pass two bills in WV. Both of which are being blocked by the GOP controlled house to run the bills. Frontier has its hands in the State Capitol, as Randy Smith has mentioned. Some more of the crocked politics at play.
  22. I also ran into this http://www.dslreports.com/faq/westell?text=1 Near the bottom it says
  23. Well the Glasnost test was inconclusive..... But I did do what you said, with the password. This time of night I would be expecting to drag balls.... my latest test on here was 6.6Mbps..... It has not been like that in almost 8 months. lol. Now all I have to do is the same for the other DSL line, see if it fixes it. The very next test was 1mbps.... I can't win, I thought it was fixed... lol
  24. I just ran something that is of interest, something I have heard that Frontier do and I believe this will confirm they are actually doing this. Throttling service, traffic shaping or whatever you want to call it. Http download on this site is as now around 1.6 Mbps, I tried to download (as a test) a huge torrent file, it was coming down at 4.5Mbps. Interesting huh.... I will also try the password reset.
  25. Ahh, gotcha. My SNR was acceptable for my distance, I am on the outskirts of the DSLAM. I presume you may even be further than I, as I am provisioned for max speed and on a normal day would see 7 - 8 Mbps, but that is in the past. My new normal is well under 1Mbps, around 300Kbps or slightly more is my new norm. Frontier, they are just kicking ass where ever they infiltrate.
